Yes, you are the first person here (whom I have seen) who gets it. She does not have a baby voice at all. As an analogy, she sounds like an American or Brit with a (putting it politely) certain type of regional accent trying to speak with an Oxford educated accent in a period drama. You also get this (to some extent) in Korean sageuks where the actors have to learn to modify their style of speaking. As I explained elsewhere, she sounds stilted.
Regardless, I don't care, I like her performance. That over a 'cute' baby voice (which makes me want to smash my laptop) any day.

I have already told one person this (the fact that incest would never pass censorship) but was told that I was being intolerant and that it was not my business! But some people here still view the relationship as being incestuous. What they don't realise is that the word 'incest' (both etymologically and biologically) is to do with blood not marriage.

Just for anybody about to watch this. Re comments below about messed up episodes after episodes 16-18. They are still messed up three years later. There are missing episodes on myasiantv and episodes do not correspond to those on youtube.

On the surface, yes. But either his mother was pregnant by someone else but claimed that it was the FL's father or the FL's mother was pregnant by someone else before/whilst she was married to ML's father. At the end of episode 5 there is a slight clue that leads me to think that it is the FL who is not related to the family. Also, someone else on MDL who has read the novel says that it is the FL who has a different father. Apparently they find out quite soon .

What am I 'intolerant of'? That is another assumption on your part. I would have said the same to any of my students. And, as you wrote on a public forum, you made it something to do with me.

Princess AB: She is not using a 'childish' voice but a 'stilted' one. How can you not tell the difference? She sounds like someone who is not using her own accent - as one might hear in British period dramas - especially when the actor is American. Whether or not she was directed to speak this way, I have no way of knowing, but it seems to me as if she is trying to sound more mature. Regardless, she is not using that highly annoying 'cutesy' voice that many of them use.

You capitalise the word 'the' but do not tell us why you think this way. Just WHAT is so bad about her. I find her to be quite adequate. She is neither very bad nor very good; she is average - like most of us. Not having a particular preference for something doesn't make it bad.

What is it with all these assumptions about incest? The fact that it specifically uses quote marks around the words 'third brother' (in the synopsis) gives it away. Also, in today's climate, Chinese dramas do not usually include incest. There is always a birth secret that tells you that there is no relation between specific characters.

I keep reading similar comments to yours, but when I look for these 'hate comments' just to read, I can not actually find many. Are you talking about MDL , much further down the page, or are you referring also to comments on other sites?
Since writing this, I have scrolled down (a liitle) and found two more comments similar to yours but STILL not found the offending posts! How far down are they?

I was confused about whic h page I was on and was 'talking' to somebody called ' Cappuchino something or other'. I shall bow out now (both conversations on both pages) before I totally lose it.

Look on his MDL page or go directly to the 'Shui Long Yin' (Water Dragon's Chant) page. Actually I misread it. It says TBA so it could be some time before it airs despite the page saying that it aired on Hunan TV and Mango TV.

P.S. I don't know about amusing; I find it very strange. (I wonder what they hope to accomplish.) Also, I have just looked at the smileys after the above comment and it occurs to me - now - that Maven4762 did not believe it, either.

Thank you. It's a shame really, because somebody was getting excited (over on the other MDL page) to see that the drama had finally been translated after all these years. They must have thought that it was one of his much earlier works.

I take it that either you are not referring to the characters 水龙吟 (shuǐ lóng yín) that are used for (water dragon's chant/song), or you are referring to the 'groan' meaning? If 'shuǐlóngyín' has a different meaning with different characters, could you give me them or the correct pinyin tones? (I have only been learning Mandarin for about a year so do not know much of the slang or idiomatic usage.)

Luo Yunxi is not in this drama at all. He has acted in a recent a drama with a similar name (in both Mandarin and English) which has not aired on most platforms. The drama being discussed here was produced in 2014.

Does anyone know why the drama 'The Story of a Woodcutter and His Fox Wife (2014)' is being billed on You tube (English name here Water Dragon's Praise) as ' Shui Long Yin' (with pictures of Luo Yun Xi as the ML) which has not even aired on most platforms yet?

I don't know if there is an app. This is a free service on Windows 10 and 11 offered by microsoft Edge/Bing (I think). I don't know if it can be accessed through Google. You'll have to have a look.
It is interactive. You can argue with it and if the answer is not what you were looking for, as long as you use the right language, you can get it to give better and more in depth answers than it might initially give you. The more you improve your phraseology when you ask, the more it will improve its response.
