I get where you're coming from, but when illness is written well, it’s not about being a lazy plot device. It can reveal vulnerabilities and bring out emotional growth that might not happen otherwise. Illness forces characters to confront their fears, insecurities, and priorities in a way that feels real. It’s about showing how people evolve in the face of hardship, which leads to more authentic relationships and personal transformation.

Imo it brings realism and emotional depth to the story by highlighting vulnerabilities and fostering understanding between characters.

I actually enjoy the main leads' scenes. It means you don’t have to watch for more than an hour 😅.

It's a slow-burn drama, and the leads are best friends, which is why they bicker the way they do, regardless of their age. If you're skipping their scenes, what are you even watching? Only the secondary characters?

For example, *Dr. Slump* was specifically about both leads being in a slump, while *Queen of Tears* having an illness storyline isn’t even the first drama this year to feature that. Childhood friends are also a very common trope, and the synopsis makes it clear that’s what this story is about. Plus, the writer behind this drama also worked on *Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha*, which had a similar tone. As for the MDL ratings, they can only go so high, especially with critics involved, so a 9.2 is still an impressive score.
