I am glad that overall you enjoyed the series. I only would like to say that I am an avid viewer of all kind of…
So kind of you @Yerisina, this is why you are the most valued commentator here in the forum 🙏❤️ We do feel so strongly about people unfairly bashing on this beautiful series, such a labour of love. Everybody involved hardly has any economic reward from it. Director, camera people, screen writers and of course the actors, so talented. Let's keep having fun talking about what really matters.
I am glad that overall you enjoyed the series. I only would like to say that I am an avid viewer of all kind of…
Something that I meant to ask you and I only took your work for granted is how do you know that the images that we see when ZiAng is taking territories are AI generated? I was left with this doubt so I looked at it and there is a difference between AI and CGI and Visual effects that have been used for more than 50 years already. In Chinese productions is mainly CGI that is used. AI is a vast subject and create a visceral reaction from people who are against it. The central debate with AI is that the ideas are not copyrightable only the expression of the ideas, in this sense, does not infringe intellectual property. The other issue is environmental damage, but it has been proved this only happen in large high performance models and only if they are taking energy from fossil fuels. I do acknowledge there is a polarisation of opinions in this subject and if you feel strongly about it, you are in the right to do so. What I am going to put my foot in the door is about that what you described is considered exploitation. Asking people to work for free is considered exploitation, that simple. I am not inventing anything here. It is against the Human Rights Declaration and very much against 🇨🇳 1. Labour Law of the People’s Republic of China. Volunteering only could happen if the organisation is registered as a charity and even though stipends should be paid as minimum.
I am glad that overall you enjoyed the series. I only would like to say that I am an avid viewer of all kind of…
Chinese labour laws are really strict. Your position is to be against AI, but you agree to people working for free? So: no to AI, but yes to exploitation? I don't want to give away what I do, I am in an educational institution. Everything that we do is AI supported. As @Yerisina wrote AI is a tool, is based in acquired human knowledge and is activated by human input. The creativity is in the design. in the questions. In relation to composers, AI is a strong tool to avoid plagiarism. It can suggest a couple of notes to change a written melody to avoid that problem. Returning to Kill to Love, some of the wardrobe was borrowed from their performing academies. They not even had budget for this, and in China clothing is really cheap.
I would argue that 6 is a criminally low rating for this masterpiece, but to each their own. The characters are…
So glad you came forward DreamHi. Somebody needed to say it as it is.🙏 I just don't understand some negative posts...honestly.....as you say each to their own 🙄
Let me tell y'all I have watched/read lot of sad and traumatizing stories but this is the 1st one that made me…
If it is of any consolation, we have cried waterfall of tears in this forum, but they are good tears. So glad you liked the series as much as we do. Maybe you could consider rating each episode with a 10 to counteract the random negative "visitors" that from time to time appear, and, at least keep the rating as it is. This series deserves much more recognition. Many thanks 🙏
The story is good, I love wuxia bl! The only complaint I have is the usage of ai generated video clips, was it…
I am glad that overall you enjoyed the series. I only would like to say that I am an avid viewer of all kind of c dramas, and all of them are heavy in the AI. This is a low-budget production and the AI only appears when ZiAng is invading territories. So I genuinely do not understand your objection to the use of AI here, when all Chinese productions, including and I would say, above all, the top-tier productions use them extensively.
Kill to Love where to watch, official channels, supporting XuJin- Lately, in MDL forums, we have seen more and more people gingerly promoting pirates websites -wrong in all accounts. There are also people that just come an spit the most random negative comments and one wonder, did they even watch the series? With some comments you can start a constructive conversation, with others it is not even worthy to try... 🙄 In relation to Kill to love, I would like to remind everybody that the first 6 episodes are free to watch in the official YouTube channel and then the other 6 costs less than a cup of coffee and it is only a matter of paying one month and cancel the sub. You won't be charge again. I can guarantee you this. Kill to Love is an excellent series, with mesmerising performances. It was a really small project with young graduates from the best performing academies in China. They did an amazing job with a very low budget. They only could filmed 12 episodes this is why in the first episodes the narrative is not easy to follow. We have this lovely clip of XuJin in full attired cuddling to each other studying their lines while there was a dispute of money with the police involved. https://weibo.com/6715744133/Q7qrBkcCc It is also very important to follow all the official accounts of the actors. ZheXu and MiJin have given us so much joy. I have lost count of how many vblogs they have filmed. They are very giving to each other and to the audience. Mi Jin is signed to Huayu Films, a very prestigious production company in China, and slightly slightly is getting better roles, but still very much supporting roles. ZheXu is struggling to find any acting job in this very competitive market. We have recently knew that he was dropped in the last minute (literally) from a lead role in a production. Actors jobs is hard everywhere but particularly in China with so many excellent graduates and where nepotism and influence are also an issue . So they are really relying on the support of their followers who are almost in the totality shippers (Lagogos) for earning a living. They have had brand presentations, managers day jobs and fan meetings. You can find a lot of post in X. So please follow them I will add their RedNotes and Weibo accounts too:
You can watch it legally! from the official website. The first 6 eps are free and then is 2.50 for the other six. Hardly the cost of a cup of coffee. A lots of us in this forum have watched in this way. This is a small production company with very low margin of profit, if they have any. The link is here: https://youtu.be/P12OjrBkjtw?si=bM32G-EGUtdXiAei I wish people don't promote pirates websites in MDL!! if people need to watch something there for whatever reason, please at least be discreet about it and not share it here!!!
OMYGAD! I just started watching this and I finished it today—idk why I did not like the first ep the first time…
Many thanks for your post and you raise valid points that most of us would agree with. See discussions above for "deep dives". Only to point out that this is a Chinese production registered in Singapore to bypass censorship. If you are interested, maybe you would like to read my post just previous to yours describing the BL situation in China.
A lot of potential gone to waste. Unprofessional writing coupled with poor directing. I'm unimpressed.
I am so relieved most people have better sense and taste than you and have rated this with fairness. How many episodes did you watch? It appears you dropped it.
I wrote earlier praising this series non stop. I wanted to add that the expression that FX used to describe YSL sleeping inside to the delivery people was 对象 (duìxiàng) - which literally means live partner. It is the same expression that YSL called him by the end "come with me 对象 (duìxiàng)" - and YSL said it with so much gusto. I don't know why the translators considered that finishing with "My love" -such over used expression- was better. Duixiang means YSL full acknowledgment of FX as his partner for life. Hence FX blissful expression. This was the happiest moment that FX could ever imagine. and the most heartfelt redemption.
What an amazing ride this has been. An absolutely 10. Great production, great storyline. The actors chemistry unbelievable. I do wonder why actors like Hao Yi Ran are not given the opportunity they deserve. He is an amazing well trained actor, much better than most of the MLs in current c-dramas. Big surprise is given by Yun Qi as a novice to acting; he did a wonderful job. I am going to be picky and said about the last episode that I would have liked they translated the last word as it should be "my partner" instead of "my love". Talking to the delivery people Fan Xiao refers to YSL as "my partner" and if we understand a bit of Chinese, YSL repeated the same word. Partner has a connotation of a live companion that is what YSL wanted to say. From now on, they will walk this life together. There are details that because the sexual chemistry and the hot scenes we have missed a bit, but FX and YSL represents the union of two intellectual equals. Both have a brilliant mind that is show in the way they understand situations, acquire knowledge and going about business even in the most difficult and emotional breaking circumstances. Even in this fictional world, I could see this couple, once the emotional side has been healed, growing for greatness. I am going to miss them.
Welcome 2026! - in celebration of XuJin Let me start the New Year reflecting on the realities of a BL CP in China -During the 2nd fan meeting Jin Jin announced that they made a promise to each other and to the fans (Lagogos) to stick together and to stick around as a CP. Of course, this melted the hearts of fans. For me, more than being moved by it, I was relieved. To continue as a CP is not an emotional decision, it is a well thought career decision. On a personal level, we can be sure these two treasure the company of the other immensely. We have seen enough fan service to understand they are not just riding the wave of the business here, but that true love/friendship has flourished in the set of Kill to Love.
Let’s recap the evolution of the BL CP in China – 1) From 2010 to 2016, there was a “Regulatory Vacuum”. Overt BLs were possible not because they were “approved” but because they were unnoticed. This changed with Addicted. 2) Addicted ban (early 2016) – So during the rest of 2016 into 2017 BL survives by disguise, Advanced Bravely was released in that time 3) In 2017 The regulator release content control guidance: no “abnormal sexual relationships”, no “distorted values” 4) We arrived to the Golden Age of “Bromance” (2018–2020) were The Untamed, Guardian and World of Honour were released. 5) 2021 Entertainment Industry Rectification – this is the real turning point and has meant a crackdown on fandom culture; condemnation of “Effeminate men”, youth moral governance; stricter platform accountability, as result new BL adaptations are frozen, projects are shelved. 6) Risk Management evaluation (late 2021–2023) “Brotherhood” projects in mainstream are still allowed, but not based on BL material and CP hype is not allowed. 7) Offshore / Unregistered BL (from 2022 to present) - The overt BLs that we have seen in the last year belong to this phase.
Why well-trained Chinese actors decided to enter phase 7 and do BLs ?– It is a career decision. It is believed that a Chinese actor that is not casted on a lead role (could be second ML or a role closed to it) by his early 20s very likely will stay in secondary roles or minor roles for the rest of his career (or only appear in third tear productions). Mi Jin, ZheXu, Hao Yi Ran (To my Shore) belong to this category. And from these three, only Mi Jin is signed to a prestigious production company Huanyu Film (the same than manage Bai Lu, Xu Kai etc). The other lot I am afraid are not formally trained. Even Tiang Xu Ning never studied in a performing academy. They have made a career based on their looks. They mostly come from the modelling world. This is also the case of Yu Qin in To my Shore. ZiYu and Elliot comes from the music industry though they have some roles in third tear productions and previously solo fandom support. Trained actors love to act, and BL offered them a lead role position. We have enjoyed the amazing performances of XuJin, and Hao Yi Ran is spellbinding in his role in To My Shore. The BL audience is a winner in these cases. What is the “trade-off” – Visibility while still young – even if it is to a “niche” audience” vs less chances to be called to a ML role/high brands contracts. However, if the fandom is controlled and manage correctly, they remain very much “castable”, so they can have the best of both words.
Welcoming 2026 with XuJin: This livestream was wonderful. I watched live. XuJin at their best, sillly, funny, affectionated. It started with the announcement that Jin Jin has convinced the Huanyu CEO to cast ZheXu in a minor role in his series. ZheXu was so grateful. https://x.com/meihanxues/status/2006418932006269265?s=20 (and this is XuJin sweet interaction in the film set, Jin does not have to film but accompanied Xu https://x.com/eatthendrink/status/2006955255339298971?s=20) Jin Jin tummy problems - we have various videos of Jin Jin telling Xu, only Xu, that his stomach had been hurting since the morning. That freak out Xu for some reason and sent the assistant to buy medicines, controlled what Jin was eating and spent pretty much the whole live rubbing Jin Jin belly. Super sweet.
