Finally watched this, streaming online somewhere (of course, no subtitles).
It was the cutest thing ever, and funny too! The main guy was really natural, good acting. Totally recommended.
This reminds me once again how Japanese screenwriters lack the ability to balance drama and humor, if we could…
if you dont speak japanese those puns are not going to be funny to you, he's just combining two words, itadakimasu + manguusu (mangoose) and mandoriru (mandrill). Those are just two silly examples, but the japanese love the dajare and sadly it's not something you can easily translate into english on subtitles. But if you speak the language it can be funny. They use it on serious dramas like Love Shuffle when they make numerous puns with the word "panda", like "pan da" (it's bread) or "panpan da" (she has big breasts), or "no pan da" (she's not wearing underwear).
In this case the puns are silly on purpouse to make the character look like it has a silly side even when dealing with such a serious job. I personally think that because the theme was serious, the puns were necessary, to make the drama lighter.
hey, you asked for subs, and there you have them,
considering what's out there, they're not on the harsh side (they even let you show another account if you don't have 10 posts on livejournal, not many do that)
I liked this dorama and I'm glad I watched it, but the main female lead I just... couldn't like no matter what. Her character wasn't really developed properly, and I just couldn't see any redeeming qualities about her whatsoever.
I read somewhere somebody say that in this dorama you love Samejima the first episodes, then hate him around ep 5 and then love him again at the end. But for me it was like that but for the main female lead instead of him.
The first few episodes her character was blank, you couldn't really tell who she was. Then when the fighting started, I just couldn't see why he was treated like he was to blame for everything. First she calls him a sissy and a coward, then he fires her, and of course that was a stupid thing to do, but don't call a guy sissy just because the guy is having trouble being physical, the mature thing to do (since she was portrayed as the mature one of the two) would be to ask him if there's anything wrong and not just assume things and then get angry and call him a sissy. Then after that she gets the brilliant idea of going to work for the guy she knew was the natural enemy of Samejima. I mean, you know he's not gonna like it, but you act all like "wtf, of course I'm gonna work for Wada". Then when he starts trying to get her back, she acts all high and mighty and you cannot tell at all that the break up has affected her in any way. She's happy with her friend going to work, etc. Meanwhile Samejima is having a really hard time, you can see him crying a few times. She almost also gets angry at him for the character suit. I mean... The guy is a mess, but anybody could see that he was trying his hardest, even his employees, but that girl almost didn't learn anything from the whole experience. The final episode tries to fix this a little but, by then I really couldn't feel her love for him in any way.
I purely enjoyed this series for the secondary characters, and Ohno's acting, because his scenes with his employees and trying to come up with solutions were cringy but sooo fun to watch. It's the first dorama that I like more everything surrounding the main couple and not wait impatiently for the main couple to have scenes together.
I'm loving this drama, ep 4 was excellent and super fun.
I don't understand the ratings it's getting though... Is it in a bad tv time or are japanese people not liking it as much?

Anyway, I would still recommend it. 7,5
