Honestly, after reading some comments here I understand where most people are coming from. I guess the real issue here is whether or not you choose to let go of your morals (as this is fiction) as we do in most dramas. I personally could overlook sexual harassment if it didn't bug me or if it wasn't too realistically portrayed and romanticized to the point where I'm triggered. That does NOT mean that I condone it, it just means that I could continue to enjoy the drama while acknowledging that that bit was problematic and move on.

However, what I really couldn't turn a blind eye to or ignore whilst continuing to enjoy the drama was the racial stereotypes and cultural appropriation. Especially now that I'm hyper-aware of it. It just hurts to see, especially considering everything that's going on in the world right now. I just..couldn't detach reality from fiction in this one. K-dramas are a form of escapism for me, so when something takes me back to the reality that I'm so desperately trying to avoid, it gets a no from me.

I'm very conflicted on this bc I know that just because I couldn't turn off my morals for this one and detach doesn't mean someone else couldn't. Just because someone is enjoying this doesn't mean they're condoning anything. I'll probably be a hypocrite if I say so, considering that most k-dramas I enjoyed watching probably have something problematic about them that I chose to ignore. Maybe it's bc I'm 20 now and I'm aware of so many things I was unaware of when I was younger that I just can't let go, but that...isn't right either, bc I'm sure that even now I still notice something and ignore it.

For example, in Oh My Baby, there was a comment made by the second lead describing the main lead who's dating the girl to her mother and he said something along the lines of 'he looks very scary, he has really dark skin' . That really bothered me and I guess it helped that I didn't like the second lead's character to begin with, but guess what? I'm still watching it. Maybe bc it was subtle and not glaringly obvious as this one that I chose to turn a blind eye to it..idk I just don't know. It did upset me, but it didn't trigger me as this one (maybe bc this is a whole ass character).
Also, in Itaewon Class, I DID acknowledge that scene as sexual harassment and it did bug me, but it didn't trigger me. I shipped them so hard at the beginning and I liked how he pushed her away when she was younger bc it was inappropriate, but at some point, it became too toxic to bear that the ship sank for me, but I still enjoyed the drama nonetheless for its compelling plotline and characters.

My point is, just bc some people are enjoying this drama doesn't mean they're condoning the actions/characters portrayed in it. As long as you acknowledge what's wrong and detach that's fine. I couldn't, but that doesn't mean that I'm morally better than you, it just means that you weren't as triggered as I was to the point where you couldn't watch it anymore. The problem really lies in the younger generations watching this and getting wrong ideologies and misinformation ingrained in their brains at such a young age. That's the real problem imo.

Edit: I forgot to mention, don't tell black people how to feel about this. They have every fucking right to be angry or otherwise. We don't know what it feels like, so let's not go there, please.

Every time I try and think of something coherent and articulate to say I forget because of how gorgeous Seo Ye Ji is like wow... so this is how it's going to be huh

This role was MADE for her I swear like no one can convince me otherwise

y'all I legitimately can't like it's been a WHILE (dare I even say years) since I was this hooked on a first ep. It's so good and I'm so happy to the point where I'm commenting again about how good it is like YES YES YES WE LOVE TO SEE IT

I really enjoyed reading this article! I'm a clinical pharmacy student and I couldn't agree more with the lab bit. We do have to wear gloves tho (they're obligatory), so it doesn't really matter if you have nail polish on or not xx

I remember studying about antibiotics in AS bio, so I thought everyone knew about how they worked, since this is basic knowledge that you take in school, but apparently not lol.

I'm going to be taking microbiology in the next semester, and I'm so pumped about it! (I've heard that it's really difficult tho so fingers crossed I make it through haha)

Adapt to what exactly? Racism, sexual harrassment, and many other shady shit? No, thank you. It gets the hate…
if you fail to notice the racial undertones and implications of that scene then you're a part of the problem.

I don't know why people are against this drama. Both ji Chang wook and Kim yoo Jung give justice to their characters.…
Adapt to what exactly? Racism, sexual harrassment, and many other shady shit? No, thank you. It gets the hate that it gets for a reason.

Stop putting actors/actresses on a pedestal and hold them accountable when they mess up. They should have NOT chosen this drama. This drama shouldn't have aired point blank period.

i'm curious,, do you guys think this drama might actually get cancelled? do you think it would be a good decision?
I really hope it does, but idk if that's what they'll do tbh. This shouldn't have been ok'd to begin with.

I just read the synopsis and this feels like itaewon class 2.0 xD they have the 20 year old who's "infatuated"…
Fr! Itaewon class was the first thing that came to my mind after I read the synopsis. I honestly think I'm gonna skip on this one.

I think we learned from About Time that you can’t easily put mental illness in a drama without it being really…
I wouldn't count on it. The fact that this is a love story shows that they have already failed at doing so, since this is aspd we're talking about. Mental health is usually brushed over or romanticized or just handled very poorly when it comes to k-dramas. I can't speak for every k-drama, but when the genre is romance, they usually sweep it under the rug for the sake of moving the plot.

I usually just turn a blind eye watching said k-dramas bc I wouldn't be able to enjoy them otherwise (unless it's glaringly obvious to the point where I just can't ignore it any longer and have to drop it)

oh wow I left this drama for 2 weeks because I had my uni finals to take and came to find a war zone lol
am not gonna lie the comments are hilarious. I wish things could be different tho like we could all trash a drama and laugh about it together?or the opposite? Like my friend and I watch k-dramas together all the time and we have VERY different opinions almost all the time, but it's fine?? like why would you get offended by someone's opinion? (negative comments are not hate comments btw) I GENUINELY do not get it.

imagine a world where people didn't get offended by other people's opinions ahhh just imagine

trashing dramas is so fun I swear some of you should try it (and I mean the DRAMA and not the people commenting because why would you do that goofy)

anywhoo that was just a thought, don't mind me xx

Agreed, I don't get it either. This feels like an instalove romance which is ehh unrealistic and cringy :/
The last time I enjoyed instalove romances was when I was 15/16. I literally couldn't stand it after that lol. I started getting all these questions (besides finding it cringy) like how did you fall in love with someone who you JUST met and know absolutely nothing about???

Title A Piece of Your Mind Spoiler
I literally couldn't take it anymore and dropped it (watched 7 eps). It was literally draining my energy and I couldn't take how they kept romanticizing the guy's mental issues and his behavior. The girl was acting as his therapist all along which pushes the narrative of women being the therapist in the relationship which is such bs. Her entire focus was "healing" him and I'm like why?? From the very beginning, she was so invested in his first love and his life for no damn reason like I just can't understand how you could put so much energy into complete strangers and dedicate your life to "healing" their souls like that's so unhealthy. They all need professional help imo. NO ONE is normal in this drama NO ONE.

Gang In Wook is a complete ass and refuses to explain shit to anybody. Like I completely understand that he was mourning his wife, but why not say so instead of treating people like shit?? He could've just said, "I'm sorry I'm not myself bec my wife has recently passed away" or took a break (an actual break) or went to therapy.

Moon Soo Hoo-omg where do I even begin with her character??- she's so bloody NOSY like sis get a life- she keeps interfering and asking about In Wook's life like it's any of her business when she doesn't even know him! She was literally insufferable to watch.

Moon Ha Won's character is creepy, legitimately creepy. If I saw someone like him in real life I would be so creeped out bec what he's doing is NOT normal. Obsessing over his first love for like 20+ years is fucked up, period. That's not love. I didn't feel an ounce of love from him towards her. Recording her voice? Asking what she was wearing on a certain day from head to toe? Using her voice in a bloody stupid AI (which I'll get to in a sec) so that he could listen to her when he misses her instead of moving on?? RED FLAGSS everywhere. That's not romantic, that's just weird and creepy. Also, his character was completely bland and uninteresting aside from everything that I've mentioned. He didn't do anything and was completely boring to watch.

Seo Woo- her character only existed so she could "heal" his broken heart and make him feel better as if she was his therapist. As if that was her job/responsibility.

Ji Soo- aside from the fact that she existed so she could be the main lead's first love/obsession, she had no other remarkable role imo. They just killed her off so that the ml could fall for the fl and the story would get going. Also, apparently her husband did something stupid to Ha Won's mother, and she just couldn't look at him the same anymore. Now idk what he exactly did bec I didn't get that far into the drama but lol he was A CHILD. Is she seriously holding him accountable for something he did as a damn CHILD??? sorry but what?

Lastly, this whole AI thing is stupid istg . Aside from the fact that it's not one bit convincing, what's the actual point of it?? Bec if that thing is gonna do anything, it's going to STOP you from moving on. How are you supposed to move on from someone if you're hearing their voice all the time as if they weren't already gone? How's that supposed to help? And what are they going to do about people's consent? Bec if that someone has passed away then you can't use their voice without them consenting them and their family?? There's no way anyone would agree to it.

And I want to know how they could play a patient's (Kim Min Jung) therapy session with her therapist in the company for their AI inquiries bec that's straight-up illegal. It wasn't implied anywhere that she agreed to her session's footage to be used or even filmed? And her voice? Did she consent that too and I missed it or something bec I remember her therapist telling her about the program and that was it.literally. She didn't agree to anything.
I feel like I have to say this at the end so people don't take this the wrong way. This is my opinion and I don't mean this as a personal attack on anyone. If you enjoy this drama, I'm genuinely so happy for you. This one is just not for me sadly.
