Watch it ONLY for Luo Yunxi; the rest of the drama is a waste of time.
After eight episodes, I was ready to drop this drama. But after a few days, I decided to give it another chance. I have to say, I was disappointed.
My main issue was Zhang Rounan's repetitive acting. Sometimes I didn't know if I was watching "Love is Panacea" or "The First Frost." Her performance was exactly the same: she constantly rolls her eyes, avoids eye contact, runs away from kisses and any closeness, and maintains a blank expression. It's frustrating, and I found it hard to watch.
Luo Yunxi is too good of an actor—and from what I've seen, seems like too nice of a guy—to have to act alongside her. It feels like a waste of his talent. Their dynamic is jarring: she is an ice queen, while he is a warm, kind man. It just doesn't work.
The lack of chemistry was the final straw. He is completely in love and would do anything for her, but she is often dishonest and seems perpetually unhappy. She didn’t return a single one of Mr. Gu's kisses! It was so frustrating.
On the other hand, Luo Yunxi's role as Dr. Gu Yunzheng, a neurosurgery professor, was, like everything he does, perfect. The supporting roles of Gu's father, grandfather, and Su Weian's mother were also acted very well.
All in all, watching this series was exhausting. I should have trusted the other reviews! The plot was nothing great, the female lead's acting was terrible, and I completely don't understand the ending... Did she die? It looked like she was walking towards heaven (with that very bright light), or was it just his imagination?
