Excuse me? How are his characters the same? Enlighten me.
Unlike what you said before, I'm his fan so I've watched most of his works and his characters are not the same. For me, every character hits different. I'm not saying he doesn't have his flaws, he certainly does and he has a long way ahead. But what you're saying about playing the same character is not a fact. Yes, I see some repeated micro-expressions in his romance dramas. And to me, it's like some signature for him as an actor in romance roles. But in his non-romance dramas, his performance is something else. In Game Start, his Chen Lun. In White Cat Legend, his Li Bing. In The Nanyang Mystery, his Zhang Haixia. Also there is Black and White Forest, Wen Binbin. He does have range and he's still learning.
one thing I'm really surprised about is how zhao ling is ready to do everything to protect tingyun. like come…
It wasn't surprising. And he surely wasn't "delicate"... He and his men were outlaws and smugglers and of course he hadn't come that far as a salt smuggler by being nice :) In the novel, they showed this side of him earlier on the road trip... he can be brutal when it comes to safety of his people. I wish the screenwriter had emphasised on it earlier on but still...
For anyone reading the novel, what kind of karma does YJX actually get? This guy really succeeded in making my…
From what I remember he and his father had done sth very shady. Zhao Ling exposed them. His father died on the road to exile. YJX was going to get executed but ZL intervened saying that death is too easy for him. :) But this took ten years or so. Zhao Ling was very patient. But the drama is different though.
Maybe because the director know what a good acting is and how to deliver the drama way better than its random…
Some youtuber recently said this exact thing, and I heard he's been getting mixed reviews. I think it's about the viewers' "taste" rather than about the actual skill. His style is different and the character he's playing is challenging and different. For me, I love his style of acting and I love his portrayal of Zhao Ling.
I didn't expect this development so soon in the series but I am all for it!
I donβt understand why you all say you didn't expect this. (Though I blame the screenwriter for this. She never showed his brutal side till now). He's been outlaw for most of his life and has been fighting bloody fights. Jianghu is brutal. I had been waiting for this side of him to be shown in the drama. But the important part that this drama was trying to show us from the beginning is that even an outlaw can have a set of morals and a chivalrous heart.
Everybody knows she is engagned to him. It's not a hush hush matter. In those days, when someone becomes betrothed, it becomes legally binding. Breaking an engagement, was a rather huge thing too. Causing damage to a girl's reputation. Cohabititing was not normal but under special circumstances it's fine because he's mostly at the army and their rooms are seperate, it's okay.
I'm thinking about starting this drama because it seems interesting. Do you guys recommend? Can you maybe tell…
The drama peaks around ep 4 and it has a lovely story. The story is about growth and bonds. In terms of story, I haven't watched sth similar to this story but in terms of vibe, it's similar to Blossom, and A Splendid Match.

Makes me want to punch him π

I love his voice and this song is perfect for our couple's vibe. π
