FLAWS here and there, but still a major win
Why did the master do plastic surgery in his youth? He was already looking pretty good. Is he a perfectionist?
Why the master is randomly either doing exorcism or ignoring possessed people?
What was the point of guarding the house in the village during the first night if the main lad is then allowed to leave and wander wherever without this protection at all?
NOT a fan of the “the character is not really gay because his love interest is a female soul from a previous life” trope. We have seen some of that in other works.
Also, the Kent’s character is not that good of a person because he is kind to the main lad but just like towards a dog. He treats the main lad as a subject with no agency with whom he can engage or not on whim whenever he wants all while feeling himself good, which is a self-serving attitude.
And the real reason why he broke his oath to his grandfather to not meddle with karma is because the person in question is not just someone but a lover. But this is a realistic character, so it is good it was portrayed.
But the second couple, the beginning of their intimate fun (not the abstinence excercise later), is big progress versus the usual clear top/bottom GMMTV cliche where the bottom does not want intimate fun and plays a log or even actively pushes away the top.
This tradition comes from Japan where the genre has appeared first as Shonen-ai, the “BL” is an English translation of the term. Those manga and visual novels were written by females for female audiences so the bottom is just a female character that has nothing changed other than the gender, hence extremely unrealistic portrayals of the dynamics in most BL series. But not here.
The grandmother is ill and needs to be hospitalised, but the cult members are not doing it.
It is wierd how not even shaman can sense that a dish is cursed.
Opium does not make people violent, it is the opposite. It is a depressant, a narcotic, not a stimulant.
Lots of series lately overuse the tablecloth fabrics for lads’ wardrobes which only works well for plumbers or mechanics but not for anyone else. It is meant to help hide stains of dirt and oil until the working day is over before it can be washed.
It is not believable that it is possible at all to break the curse because the evil ghosts can easily take over a pilot to aim a giant plane to a building whether the main lad is or take over just anyone nearby to kill him or even control the lad himself to unalive him.
I am not usually into the woke craze but here I go woke a bit and see two more good things about this:
1. the series have employed at least one actually gay actor — Namping (well, that is just from mannerisms because I do not know if he has ever officially disclosed it).
2. The adoption thing is crucial to me, even though it was put in the slow bonus part of the final episode. Because yes, a couple got together, but then what? Only to enjoy each other?
That might be fully enough for many or even for most, but often people want more from their life. Upbrining the next generation of mankind is a huge deal. Of course, I want a BL series to explore that properly as well as surrogacy, but I doubt the industry would dare.
