Is this a duck??? No it’s a Rabbit!!!
I watched this mainly for Chen Fei Yu and Zhou Ye, as I knew the original story in Japanese was sad and not a happy ending. I like this re-scripted version, where it gives viewers at least a feel good closure after all the agony the couple gone through. The story:
Is simple and straightforward. Boy meets girl at young age, she is his 白月光in his difficult childhood (abusive alcoholic father). Then they parted as girl’s family moved away. They met again in adulthood and quickly were attracted and got together. Misunderstanding because of ML’s past (father’s debt affected his self esteem and he was negative towards FL). Then misfortune happened, FL got into accident and die on ML’s birthday. And the magical element of this show here, is that his birthday candles and wish allows ML to relive the day before her accident. Every time he tried to change her fate or rescue her, FL will still end up dying. Till a point when FL realised and she made the ultimate wish of never to meet him as adult, never cross paths and never love, so they won’t suffer. And with that last wish, they both survived but they never met again. Until in the winter’s day (another significant theme for this couple as they met on winter), ML again walked into FL’s bakery and met her. Final scene, they grew old together.
My verdict:
The pacing was good, however the sweetness for the couple here is very short, and we have to go on a journey of agony till the last 5 mins of happy ending. But to be fair, I can’t expect much as it’s a 90mins movie. The chemistry were fantastic. The acting were clear and spot on. Really love Arther Chen’s deep set voice and he is very handsome here. Adored Zhou Ye’s pure and innocent portrayal of the character is so believable. She is a very pretty actress and her cuteness is just right.
So warm and fuzzy even on cold winter to have to beautiful CP getting together in the dreamland of drama world. Re-watch value 💯!

Love story of a Human, a Book and a Pearl…
This will be my shortest review and minimum reveal of the plot.Although this a novel adaption, the screenplay has made some changes especially towards the ending. This drama ending gives a broader story arc and grander meaning of the sacrifices that happened.
I decided to read the novel after starting this drama, in my opinion both should be kept apart and not be compared. As both are good in its own way.
The synopsis in MDL can be misleading as it mentioned only Zhao Ming (ZM) and Ah Zhu story arc, however this drama begins at a different arc, where ZM and Ah Zhu was a past.
This drama starts at human realm where FL (Meng XueLi, MXL) a spiritual being shamelessly pursuing ML (Xie Xue Chen, XXC) and showing her affection at him. XXC is a highly cultivated mortal who has a best buddy, who is also a cultivated mortal but has a hidden identity, the SML, Nan XuYue (NXY). It is a story of their relationship entanglement, their past lives, their obsessions and their growth journey. Throughout the story, it may feels like SML is trying to break the main lead’s love relationship, but ultimately he never stand a chance, as the main leads are very much in love and bonded from previous lifetime.
Yes, this story has time travel, and at one point XXC will attempt to travel to change MXL’s fate. There is also an involvement of a bigger threat, Hao Tian, who is the creator yet can be a destroyer. The Trio went through a journey to discover their mission and met many other friends. The side stories of the other side characters were interesting and quite heartwarming, and did make me very emotional.
What I enjoy most:
1.It is refreshing to see a provocative FL who pursue ML all the way with unwavering love.
2.The characters and story pacing were coherent and consistent throughout.
3.All the casts’ acted well and were believable and fits their roles well.
4.The CGIs were much better then some big budget dramas.
5.There were proper choreographed fight scenes.
6.I really like the side stories of the other side characters.
7.The ending is satisfying and complete for me.
What I am dissatisfied with:
1. I wonder how it would be like if this drama follows exactly with the novel ending. I like the novel ending too.
2.Some may feel that this drama emphasizes a lot on SML’s presence and screen time, to a point that I wish to see what really happened to him after he chooses his end.
3.The Hao Tian’s arc was rather weak in set up and it wasn’t clear on why it wants to destroy humanity. And why it creates artifacts and set weird rules for them without contingency plan when they learnt to feel and love.
In my opinion this drama is a dark horse and deserves more viewership.

Fearless Fighter - Courage, Change, Lighthouse of Hope
I couldn’t decide on a title so just come up with a few themes related to FL.After I finished this drama, the emotional rollercoaster took a toll of me, lots of tear jerking moments and needed some time to process before I can write a proper review. I have never felt so invested in a Youth drama for a long while.
IMO, This is a MASTERPIECE!!!
It is a novel adaptation and after I started watching this drama for 5ep. I decided to pick up the novel. The novel also surprises me. This drama has slightly differences from the novel, however the drama definitely done a fantastic job keeping the theme of the novel and the characters’ arc.
I love them both equally. The drama gave me a different feel, it has more dramatic element and left me with intense and emotionally charged feeling compared to the novel.
I like the novel ending, how the main leads reconciled and the epilogue chapters of their couple.
The drama’s ending makes me longing for more and how I wish to see more of this couple. But I understand that this production team took this approach, it stay true to their theme, which is to emphasize on QingYu’s growth arc and her choices she made. And it’s a smart ending as lingering feeling will made viewers remember the show.
The story…without giving much spoiler.
This is not an ordinary youth romance drama, instead it focus on difficult themes such as death, suicide, family secrets, grief, mental health issues, gender biases, bullying, and how family old patriarch system can cause so much damage and emotional pain in their children.
What I love about this drama:
-The overall story telling and the revelation of Qiao BeiYu’s death and how the family grief and cope were very well done. Casts are stellar in their performances.
-The beautiful symbolic scenes and interaction between BeiYu and QingYu(QY). How QY decides to fulfill her sister’s dream to go for the dance competition and how she find justice and reconnects with her deceased sister were very heartwarming moments.
-The exploration of family arc is most heartbreaking and yet heartwarming when their secrets were brought to light. Such family practices there will always be victims and those who carry on the unhealthy practices (the uncles and aunties). Kudos to Liu Dan’s acting as the mother, such phenomenal performances.
-I admired FL’s strength, courage and growth. She is not afraid to be alone and face consequences of her actions - fearless.
-The interaction and dynamic between QY and other students. The sisterly relationship between QY and MuMu.
-The side plot of innocent pure love at first sight, youth romance between leads. As well between JinRui and BeiYu. JinRui is a coward and selfish but in this story, it also truly portray how he also does love BeiYu at one point. However he is also a victim of family practices and suffered from the situation. I don’t think he will ever forgive himself and guilt will be part of him to carry.
It’s sweet that the drama gave us a carefree date and final meet up and kiss of the main CP. Without much words, we know they both love and care for each other. MingSheng(MS) is mature and sensitive enough to understands QY’s burden hence he choose to believe in her and wait for her. Like how their love is shown through action and no need to tell explicitly.
The only disappointing part was when MS confronted the thugs, he could have died, such impulsive move and risk, if anything major happened to him, it would be another trauma for QY. However that behaviour was also expected as he is after all still a teen.
What I wish they include from novel:
1.although I totally understand why the drama developed the dance interest in QY, as thats her connection with her sister and also with MuMu and MS.
2.As someone who likes to write, I do wish they kept FL’s good writing skills and her calligraphy skills.
3.MS pursuing his medical degree. The drama only address his relationship with his parents but didn’t give enough time for his arc to grow.
4.I wish they gave us the epilogue chapters of their adult children and how they set up a bookshop and provide Counselling support for youth.
This is a 9/10 for me.

It’s All About The Voice
Giving another sub heading: God-like Perfect Man found love.Let’s begin by saying I only watched this because of Tan JianCi and Zhou Ye. I like both their previous works and since this is TJC’s first time in a sweet Rom-Com, I am more forgiving of the plot and endure till the end.
TJC’s ML character is just God-like perfect, smart, intelligent, workaholic, cardiac surgeon who is a brilliant voice actor (and started his voice acting company with a group of friends and got famous), and he is a great chef! You literally see him sleeps everywhere or don’t sleep at all, have energy to voice act and now date.
I strongly believe such character design only exists in novel or drama world. FL (Zhuo Ye) is a sheltered, protected and love by everybody girl who behave like she is 10 yrs younger than her actual age. Her talents include her love for food, eats a lot and not be fat; plus she composes GuFeng song with an aspiring band and sing. ZY has a unique cute pretty outlook and is suitable for this role, but I feel she needs to put on more flesh, a little too skinny for a lady who eats so much and love food.
Storyline
Simple and sweet: ML falls for FL’s singing voice many years ago and he accidentally found her chat room and set out to pursue her. They connect via ML reading food recipe to her as she loves to eat. FL happens to be also a fan of ML’s voice acting too. So they met, fall in love and all is well. If you are looking for drama in this story, there is none. The couple literally do the most cliche troupe of all couple in love, first trip (tourism ad on Guilin/YunShuo), see the first sunrise, first kiss, sweet talk, It feels like two teenagers’ journey of falling in love but just that the CP are mature adults. It’s because it’s TJC acting as ML, so it make it all okay and less cringy for me to watch.
Pros
All sweetness of TJC and ZY. The showcase of voice acting profession that now I have full admiration for them. TJC holds the cord for the whole drama. He is such a versatile actor that sings most of the OST, dome a great job in showcasing the complexity of voice acting and he cooks! He has a one-take fried rice scene, he really can cook. The Gu Feng songs were quite nicely composed for this drama and of course the showcase of beautiful Guilin that urge me to want to go there. I personally feel this is a tan service drama for TJC’s fans. lol.
Cons
Lack of realism in the characters’ design. The storyline is flat.
ML is God-like perfect, such charisma and handsome, yet he said he never dated at age 29, but his moves are so smooth to FL. He has to be living in the mountain somewhere for such a character to exist or he has an extreme detached or narcissistic personality to be real! FL in the novel is even more shy and introvert, ZY’s portrayal here is more vocal, she acts well, but my only complaint is that wish she doesn’t need to behave so baby like in her response to ML. For a modern girl, at her age and exposed to social media, it’s just hard to imagine she is still so ‘baby’?
Many fillers plots but just anti-climatic with no element of growth or doesn’t serve any pivotal turn for the plot. It just feels like a lot of little happening around the CP and a group of people, but not much purposes to drive any growth in characters.
There are other side couples, but feels insignificant to mention them, as not much of a storyline for them too.
The final ending has yet to reveal but I will update it again after I finish the drama, also read the novel. The novel ending has the main CP engaged and ML retiring from his voice acting. Not sure how this drama will end, but will update again.
Final note after completing this drama: So the last 10 ep as mentioned is his retirement, their more sweet scenes flood the screen. There are plots on FL’s graduation, FL found out ML was her tan, ML’s proposal, their wedding shots. And the other two CPs also progresses in their relationship. The end.
I won’t re-watched, but maybe someone just compiled the main CP sweet scenes with the fantastic OST, and watching those may be good enough if you want some simple sugars in your life.

When there is Light Within us…
“When there is Light within us, perhaps even Darkness might seem bright.” Is a statement shared by FL to ML in his darkest moment.Pardon my long review, just feel the need to show justice to a great show.
This drama begins with a theme that memories is a composite emotional connection , even our brain forgets, our heart remembers. Our human brain and mind and body are integrated and a composite of many things.
It is a feel good, healing drama with different patients who suffered with brain condition, it gave a hopeful perspective on expecting the unexpected in recovery.
Neuroscience has advanced to prove what our brain seemingly forgets, but our body remembers.
This goes to explain why every account of trauma, memories and hence healing is possible. What we thought we have forgotten will eventually show up in other ways if it’s unresolved or revisited through brain training. So somethings are never truly lost.
Plot brief
The premise of this story which was already summarized in synopsis. About a healing journey of a skilled neuro-surgeon who had a brain damage affecting her daily memories due to an accident. It’s her journey of rediscovering herself, healing and finding love. There is no dull moment as every episode, be prepared for tear jerking scenes and a new brain condition is taught in every episode. The mystery of FL’s brain disorders became more complex, revealing that her main attending doctor is keeping a dark secret from her about her treatment.
Casts
Fantastic acting by all the casts, especially FL and ML.
Themes explored
The unwavering believe of ML in FL’s skill despite her brain condition. I totally understand hospital and head nurse perspectives on how they could never put another patient at risk in the procedure with a Dr who suffered brain damage. Not going to happen in real world, but this is drama, so acceptable.
It made me think whether one’s acceptance and acknowledgement of one’s situation or condition, does it mean that they have given up; or should one strives to achieve the optimum recovery beyond possibility of miracle? How often would miracle happen and what’s realistic hope vs false/delusional hope? I guess this question can never be answered as miracle does happened from time to time in medical field.
The theme of perseverance of various individuals, from FL as a Dr with her brain disorder, her fiancés’ effort to help FL, and all the different patients’ story featured.
The positivity in workplace culture, the support from colleagues are amazing, wish that can be seen in every workplace. Especially in workplace that deal with delicate human life, the clinicians are seen to be respectful, supportive to each other, having regular post work meals to boost each other morale.
The typical familiar trope in medical drama, the traditional conservative practice vs the new age more risk taking practice. Doing what’s best vs doing what’s safer, these dilemma tropes surfaced very often in medical practice drama. Another common trope we seen often is the profit focus mindset in the upper management/ investors vs clinicians’ needs, patients’ well being; and the tendency to do harm to others in that aspect. Well there has to be a villain, so most convenient are always the hospital management group or investors who make decisions based on their profit or personal goals and a top management Dr that succumbed to their temptations or threats.
How do people with a chronic brain condition adjust to workplace and reduce discrimination or prejudice treatment from company. Importance of others’ understanding, respect and family support.
Educational on different types of brain disorders mentioned and its treatment. Apart from the medical theme discussion, the group really eat a lot in this drama, they ate and ate, almost once or twice every episode. A message that eating equate happiness? Or Cure distress? lol!
Almost every important characters have a growth arc.
There are definitely a lot of touching and tearjerking moments about different cases associated to brain conditions and their struggles. J drama is always very good in narrating and giving the viewers an in-depth connection with every characters, including the patients’ background stories, making us emotionally stirred by their situation and states. But it also leaves a positive note in every episode when they overcome with resilience and giving hope.
The main leads’ love relationship was build on very simple premise and the proposal was straightforward, two people got together, feel strongly connected and tied the knot.
Plot holes
Every drama will have plot holes, without it, it won’t be drama.
FL has no other families except her work families.
ML is an expert neurosurgeon, how would he have so much time?
If FL forgets everything the next day, she will have a lot to read the following morning, so everyday she will have to wait up earlier and earlier to read?
There are only so few staff in this hospital, during one scenario where they needed someone to assist in operation, they can only depend on the head nurse with past trauma?
Putting patients in risk will never happen in real life no matter how skilled a Dr is.
Dramatization of villain. If real world hospitals are controlled by such investors, then it’s disaster.
J drama just deprived us of love and romance, the closest is to show us connection through holding hands and hug. Even till the end, their relationship was still so formal, addressing each other in formality. But that’s acceptable in the Japanese culture.
The FL didn’t need to shave her head for surgery?
It’s an amazing watch but hard to re-watch, and we have a happy ending here.
Hope more people can experience this drama, thanks for reading.

Coloured Lens
This was an old movie, released in 2014, I only picked this up now after so long was because ML used to be one of my favourite K drama lead and I found a source to watch it online.Personally I used to cringe at such storyline with the emphasis on the over-glorifying of extra marital affairs (EMA). The fact to this story is that both leads did betray their spouses. And ML’s behaviour is no different from the older commander who was trying to take advantage of FL during the dance. The only different is ML is charmingly handsome and FL also has feelings for him.
However after watching this I realised that it really depends on what ‘lens’ you watch with. It’s actually a simple, beautiful, sad love story.
If one watch this with an emphasis on the ML’s story of a celebrated war veteran suffering from PTSD and how he was trying to navigate his life again after the trauma of war. He can’t celebrate his wins and he is tormented, and he discovered a dysfunctional way of coping is being obsessing over a desire at first sight that spark him to live again. And as the show progresses, one will understand why his obsession and desire was the only thing that kept him alive after war, similar to why a lot of war veterans developed alcoholism.
Hence it’s not surprising that he attempted suicide after FL tries to break up with him. Yet even he didn’t die, he was again not given another chance to be understood and recover, instead was punished by being sent back to war and die there. He has literally no second chance and no life post war except that glimpse of love desire.
So I am surprise that I do like this and how the story was told was quite nicely done. The acting were spot on and ML is still charming, although too good looking to be a war veteran. LOL!
So choose the lens that you are going to watch this with and you may just enjoy this differently.

If you are a City Hunter Fan…
City Hunter was a classic J comic, may seem like a simple story but the main character can be complex back story. I am a fan of the comic and anime, so nice to see finally J entertainment made this series into a movie. There has been so many version made previously, the one with good effort and attempt was the French version. However I must say this is movie by far is the best adaptation and maintained the essence of its original comic. And only with a J production, we can see the J humour done so well. The casts done a fantastic job, the fighting and shooting scenes were quite well done. I really enjoyed watching this, if you are a fan of City Hunter, it’s a must watch and you sure will enjoy this a lot.Was this review helpful to you?

Groundhog Day!
It’s the best c-drama about time loop in 2022! It’s about finding the root cause, the best option to save all the key people. The story unfolds little by little in every episode. Bringing the the audience closer to the in-depth story of some key casts, allowing time to develop an attachment in a short period of time was upmost impressive about the script.
We are not only following the plot but also the background story, and speculating who will be the possible perpetrators or victims.
Premise of the story: if we are given a chance to stop a bomb, but not knowing how, what do we do? Do we keep looking for solution or do we give up after many tries?
When we are faced with a time loop, do we ask why or how?
FL represents pure heroic and altruistic nature of humankind. She wants to save them.
ML represents the imperfect part of humanity, some selfishness to only save himself or others. He was influenced by FL.
Strong theme on ‘do not judge the book by its cover’, nicely expressed in various background story of the secondary character.
Overthinking on my part: first point, if I am a scientific mind, I will say, this kind of time loop is not possible at all. It’s against the law of physic. Second point, if it’s an exploration of spiritual theme on how after one died and their soul or mind kept coming back to the last moment of their death, due to resentment or unfinished business, then it will be very sad and quite suffering to know that the whole drama is only someone’s delusion. I am glad thats not how the story ends. Third point, why only ML have the self-awareness, the awakening, why the other anime/cat loving guy did not have the same self-awareness? Is it because he is secondary character?
Fourthly, the motive - it’s a believable plot to drive a grieving parents’ crazy. However to the extend of them wanting to bring down a busload of strangers, why? If you said to revenge for their daughter, how would their behaviour serve justice to their deceased daughter? If it’s because they have given up on humanity, how will their actions create an impact. So based on their logic, wouldn’t people forgotten about it as how they have dismissed their daughter’s situation. Fifth point - the romance is totally unnecessary. I would prefer that the two main casts became closed friends and may be romance bloom only in season 2.
Anyway, it’s my 2cents worth of thoughts. It’s a very very applaudable attempt for C drama to have such good writing and good acting. It’s not perfect but definitely near to perfect for a sci-if series. Well done!

Fairy-tale like with Realism
My first review ever I wanted to write on MDL because of this drama.Genre of Youth’s struggle to adulthood, facing challenges in life, facing consequences, doing the right thing, learning to express emotions, IT programming field, parenting, growth, relationships difficulty, facing adversity, kindness of others, genius and flaws, acceptance, etc
The first act focus on developing the background of a few main characters, quite well balanced and not over the top. Youthful struggles and developing friendships and relationships. Trust, faith and dreams. Captivating and realistic character building for phase. You can understand the ML’s aloofness and the FL being giving the label of ‘Princess’. Story well edited.
The characters are consistent and can see their growth to adulthood.
Second act - adult phase shown more of characters picking up what they have loss and reconciling their past to acceptance. Building trust in each other, believing in each other and growth. Some very nice supporting characters were absolutely too perfect like FL’s childhood friends. The ML’s misfortune and stubbornness was acceptable and instead as a flaw, it was narrated more of resilience, perseverance and strengths. ML is not heartless just poor in navigating his emotions and losses in life. Hence the FL is his savior.
And the villains were not all bad in their core except for one. Driven by circumstances and bad choices, all have some bad things happened to them, to allow them to learn their lessons. Of course happy ending.
So hence the fairy tale sweetness.
The actors and actresses also all portray their roles well. Deserved many thumbs up! Sweetness but not too over the top, overall a down to earth presentation.
Worth a re-watch and review the small details designed by the team and actors and actresses.

‘Mr Vampire’ in Korean version
This is a Korean take on Exorcism…some nostalgia familiarity to the good old Hong Kong movie, Mr Vampire. Watched this because of reviews.I grew up watching Hong Kong horror drama involving exorcism, spirit and zombie. So I was pleasantly surprised by this movie which is based on Korean culture also has some similar elements such as rituals, calling spirit, Feng Shui, ancestors’ grave shifting, exorcism etc. It even had a darker urban legend as the back story about what Japanese Yin-Yang master done to Korean Feng Shui by breaking Korea into two countries. And there was a subtle theme of how a country and people survived this ordeal (war), trauma stays with them.
Brief plot without reviewing much, is about one veteran (a Feng Shui master), a funeral director and two new practitioners (a Sharman and her disciple), these four came together because of their client’s ancestor grave mystery and uncovered a darker past. Facing life danger situation, they will have to use their expertise to fight the unknown.
Brilliant writing, good pacing, good acting.
If you like this type of drama, this is definitely worth the watch.

A historical detective/coroner drama with simple cute straightforward romance.
I was pleasantly surprised to come across this drama by chance. The first episode got me hooked.Cast - a group of young actors and actresses who were neither popular and nor famous but their acting were super. They presented their roles well and very natural.
Plot - interesting twist and turns in the story. ML and FL developed love and learnt to trust each other, supported each other through their challenges. No complicated third party. The supporting casts have their own sweet CP too.
The story and plot were witty. Both ML and FL were smart and witty, cute in their own ways. The director had an interesting way of showing how historical coroner (FL) uncovered evidences from the corpses and crime scenes.
Refreshing to watch. The ending was a trap set up to captured the villain and of course happy ending.
Once you start, you can’t stop. Definitely worth a watch if you are in for an appetite of some simple straightforward romance and witty detective work.

Potential great love story however cheapened by its main theme on sexual drive!
FL and ML has their first sex experience in their high school day. The experience created and impact for both of them.In adulthood, FL didn’t have much success in love and life, she met the ML again who was having trouble with his male libido. ML’s libido to him was also equivalent to his creativity. So as a writer, he was in despair when he lost his writing ability due to his lost of libido. However when FL came into the scene, ML found his miracle cure, where he was able to regain his sexual arousal. So subsequently the few episodes were about ML trying to convince FL to have physical intimacy and sex with him. Which she gave in eventually. In this drama, FL was portrayed as a ‘push over’, giving in to ML’s advances and requests again and again. After she gave in to him and had sex with him, which she was still unable to set clear boundaries and resulting in her wondering was she just a sex object. Deep inside, FL seems to love ML previously or/and was once emotionally hurt by him (in high school, she couldn’t understand why after she gave her virginity to him), he abandoned her. As adult, she tried to act mature and cool about the matter but still deeply curious and drawn to ML as she was in high school.
There was another matured SML who was gentle and respectful to FL and took interest in her. But yet ultimately we know that she chooses to stay with ML because she accepted ML’s term of loving her is via physical connection (or sex). Partly she is flattered that she is the only women that can aroused him and maintain his sexual desire/needs. So they end up staying together and be happy in the moment.
What I dislike:
Normalizing woman to be a ‘push over’ and sex object to man. Allowing woman to be a victim to man’s fantasy.
Suggesting that it’s acceptable to allow a man to act on his sexual drive to manipulate a woman through her emotional vulnerability and love for him.
Dehumanizing man to a state only being driven by sexual drive and needs.
What I like
The actors/actress acting were natural and believable in their roles.
ML’s character is uniquely designed and he is not really like all man, one can see a mild autistic traits presented. And as FL learnt and choose to love and accept his flaws, their love is simple and uncomplicated as they meet each others’ needs.
The boldness of the director and script to explore this topic in an open manner.
One need to watch with an open mind or you won’t appreciate it.

Older woman athlete discover Love.
Genre: older woman and younger man romance; professional athlete; resilience as a sportsman; perseverance and growth with faith in self. It’s not my usual to watch romance between older woman and younger man. Feels like a cradle snatcher situation in such relationship. My personal bias. I watched this because of the male lead who I followed in another drama, “Forever Love”. However I am pleasantly surprise by this drama, it’s romance is not to cringy and there were quite a focus on the struggles of being a professional athlete. Especially when the ML succeed in multiple attempts to break his own records, inspired a deep admiration of the journey of a sports person.
The CP romance is acceptable, got good chemistry. The ML really portrays well as a ‘little puppy’ hopelessly in love and pursuing his love in one track mind. The FL is strong and resilience in her own ways with unwavering trust in the ML potential.
Overall inspirational watch! If you are looking for a light hearted and warm drama, this I will be my recommendation.
