Okay... So, Moran could get away after saying those words without getting deadly whipping is because Chu Wanning has always liked him. And Chu Wanning being a thin faced didn't want to acknowledge it and give that matter more weightage especially infront of his 2 disciples.
If you noticed there was another scene in this timeline where Moran nursed sick Chu Wanning and slept beside him. In the morning, he thought he was still TXJ and pulled CWN in for a kiss. CWN didn't confront that either.
