I'm liking this drama so far! I think it's the most distinctive historical drama I've seen these past years. But the writer still needs to improve some stuff in her writting.

I think she's skipping turning points. For example: Bong Ryun went from a peasant to a princess, but we saw nothing from her growing up as a princess. There's a time skip right at that moment, and when the time skip ends, we get a totally different character, who actually cares for her father. They say the king is dying, and that wll probably make her really sad and work as character development for her, but as a viewer, I don't feel connected to that father-daughter relationship, cause we saw nothing from it developing. We only watched her go live with the abusive family.
Then, Chun Joong hates her cause she betrays her, but the next ep he is already spying on her with a smile on his face? What changed? Why did he change so fast?

Characters change, but the viewers need to see the turning points to understand it. For me, the princess is a totally distinc princess than her younger version.

Another thing I don't like in this show is that the male lead is physically invencible. He gets stabbed on his back and fights as if it were nothing. He gets trespassed by a bullet on his shoulder and is fine, but the princess barely gets shot in the arm and she is almost dying? That's incoherent. He was much more wounded than her, and not only that, but woman are more tolerant to the pain, so there are 0 reasons for her to faint right after getting a small scratch on the arm.

But I think overall this is a good drama, really

The thing is: no one knows who the victim is.

A girl reported him for rape after 4 days (when you can't get tested for drugs and all that), so she doesn't have anything supporting her testimony. Not only that, but a few other factors worked against her.

It's possible that he is a rappist, just as it is possible that he got defamed to get money. She dropped the case after a while cause things were going wrong for her. So we still don't know anything.

My philosophy is that if I'm not sure who's to blame, I won't boycot his work, because he may aswell be the victim. People here call him a rappist cause many people side with women in these cases, cause women supporting other women against rape is a thing, but I think that's unfair, cause sometimes it's the opposite and no one except both of them know the truth when there aren't proofs.

I followed the case back then when it came out, both me and a group of people who loved dramas (and he was one of the most popular actors back then). We were very disappointed but still patient to see the updates. A few weeks later, it was very obvious for all that the girl just was trying to get money from him. She even exchanged messages with a friend about that...

Tbh, as soon as a woman says she was harrassed, everyone wants to murder the man, but we never know the truth... We are all watching it behind the cameras, and we have no power to be able to tell who the actual victim is. As for this case, I feel like the complainers are people who read the accusation new and didn't even care how it turned out in the end, they are more interested in hating him

Yes, and also, even Kim Go Eun said that the drama gets better and better each ep.

I thought the 1st episode was disappointing: which is expected, cause the actors made it too anticipated , but since the 2nd ep I'm really loving it, tbh.

I think the thing is that the 1st ep had too much information and was confusing

I agree, he was my favourite. I watch the Falling in Love MV everytime I miss him. I also loved a drama he did called King in Love

well, if I remember well, he does get his moments. Actually, he has a character arc :)

Tbh, I disagree with most people here praising the first 2 eps and saying the 3rd and 4th were boring... I felt the first 2 eps were boring, very fast paced, messy and all that. I feel like now it's getting really interesting. I'm enjoying it. I think it's a regular plot for a saeguk, but the twins case gives it a different potential. The Clowned King was also a story that had already been told and that didn't make it bad at all

I doubt you can. They usually release one song each week as singles. Only at the end of the drama they release the full album of the soudtrack

The first 4 eps were great, and I was addicted and bragging this drama to everyone by that time, then it got really boring... I watched it until the 7th, I think, and dropped it

I've read about how Catholicism became a thing in Korea, and basically it was the Korean themselves who brought it to their country cause they were fascinated by the message that "everyone is born the same", since korea was very Feudal.
I thought it was fascinating, but it was never included in the dramas that I watched. I didn't know I needed this, but I'm really looking forward for it. And it looks like the younger historian boy is a catholic? He said he could defend that belief with his life, is it Catholicism? That will make things really interesting, since there will probably be a clash of beliefs, which even include nobles and people working in the court.

I don't want to sound like an obsessed catholic, I'm actually agnostic xD I'm just really interested about the period in which different cultures crossed each other xD
I also hope he's portuguese, cause many missionaries in Asia were Portuguese, and I'd love if my country is evolved in a korean period drama for once xD

You mean she's really ugly, so I can't say "she believes she is". Is that it? I didn't get what you mean, so sorry.

The thing is, she was indeed ugly when the show started, but mainly because of her lack of confidence, and how she hid her face with her hair in the front, and how she looked like a psycho, that were the biggest factors to her being bullied by her looks. Once the confident girl took her body and started to wearing hairpins, she stopped being ugly, and that's one of the messages. A big part in beauty is also how you act or show yourself to others. She still wasn't the portrayal of beauty, obviously, but her looks started to be normal to the point no one really went out of their way to bully her. They shouldn't bully her anyway, but they did.

I was in the same position you did and still tried to watch half of the third ep... Dropped it then. I guess the high scores are due to Lee Jong Suk and because people in MDLcan't give scores under 7.0

and you just said my exact thoughts xD I'm watching both The Crowned Clown and Touch your heart, that I'm really enjoying! And I also wanted to try Haechi and The Light In your eyes that look really good... Too many dramas for one season. I've only watched 2 eps of this one but I didn't enjoy it that much, actually, I was forcing myself because I thought Lee Jong Suk would do a good drama (and I'm not even a fan of him lol)

Me too. The 2nd guy is much more interesting. But I don't think it's impossible to have a "2nd lead" (in the begining of the drama) get the girl... Dream High did it. The King In Love did it too. Chinese dramas remakes too. I wonder if korea will try it for once. I actually think it would be much more interesting cause everyone by now thinks she's getting the 1st lead so everyone would be surprised with that ending. Also, it's more interesting that for once it's about friendship and not love

Hum, I'm torned between dropping this cause I feel it's not as good as other airing dramas and actually following it because of the shoes guy...

Why is it that all cool dramas will be monday dramas? xD how confusing will that be

I feel like Go Ara isn't that bad, it's just hard to work when you are given bad characters. I don't know, she was really fine in Miss Hammurabi, and in Hwarang I think people hated her more because of the character than the actual acting. I feel like this drama will be good, I'm also expecting her to be a strong female character since she's a woman inspector in Joseon, which is really cool. Let's see. I have high expectations for this!

I've known since I read the script that this was just a simple drama that was going to be really famous just for the actors xD I didn't expect to be amazed, I'm not amazed, but so far am enjoying it, and I think Wednesdays and Thursdays will be fun from now on :)
