I didn't read the webtoon to decide whether this is a good adaptation or not. But I absolutely like this drama…
Webtoon is much better. Honestly, other than the main actors, I would rather not have watched this. Too many changes, especially towards the end, and a stupid ending compared to the webtoon. Not sure I'd recommend it, unless you're in it for the performances.
Bored now. Enjoyed the first 9 episodes. Bored stiff with the last three. The Thailand episode was filler, and the last couple of episodes have been stereotypically predictable. Sad, as it had so much promise. Now I just want it to end.
The female lead is a miscast, idols should be idols. When they act, you don't get immersed whenever they are on…
She is one of South Korea's most popular actresses. Her idol career ended six years ago when Girls' Generation went on hiatus, and she's been acting all of that time plus before that while still performing with the group.
Meanwhile, Girls' Generation had a brief reunion last year, but it's not likely they'll be doing much else going forward. They're all in their early to mid 30s, and few people are interested in 40-odd year old idols, especially when they're women. (Not my opinion, but the opinion of most of the world).
So what? She's supposed to just never work again because less than 1 percent of the planet knows her as an idol (and btw, I had no idea who she was until I saw her in a drama).
KTL back at #1 on Netflixβs Global Top 10 (TV Non-English) chart!! ππ»ππ»2nd time we are ranked in…
Yep :) I forecast that happening. Almost every time there is a boycott of any TV show/movie/video game/book/manga etc, it just makes even more people curious to watch it :) Thrilled though that its back at #1.
I don't know why they thought they could compile the whole webtoon into a 12-episode drama of quality. This has…
I would have hated it being any longer. 16 episodes would have made it draggy and boring. This way we get every main plot point, plus some extras, without having to sit through 4-plus more hours of things that don't really matter. And I thought the webtoon dragged in parts.
Some of the world is still very '18th century' when it comes to what they allow on TV, so that's why it's only a PG-13 in the US. To me, it seems very tame. But very cute and funny. Then again, I live in a country where I regularly see my neighbor sitting in the window naked when it's hot, and where many of its citizens swim nude in the river so there's that :)
If it's R-rated I'm all in, didn't plan to watch this at first.
It's not remotely R-rated. Very tame scenes on the 'mature audiences' spectrum, but very cute and funny. Recommend it. I started watching it just because the first episode was only an hour long. Already hooked.
Wow, this is fabulous. Love the two main leads, and it even has three of the best grandmas in it, including my absolute fave Kim Young Ok. Unusual plot too. Loving this so far. π
Doesn't matter. Reviews mean nothing. Today, it's currently the #1 most watched TV show on Netflix in Brazil,…
Exactly. IMO, anyone who threatens violence, death or even continually harrasses someone on social media -- whether it's a famous person getting the abuse or otherwise -- they should immediately be banned. Lost count of the Arabs on Instagram last week that, days later, still had accounts there even though they had obviously been reported numerous times for violence or death threats.
It's one of the reasons why, other than MDL, I don't use my social media accounts more than a couple of times a year.
First they're a huge time suck and they only make money for the Mark Zuckerbergs of the world, while I could be using that time to make money for myself π, and second the abuse and 'mob mentality' is now so bad I just think they're toxic places to be.

Reviews still mean nothing for most people, IMO. If they like the sound of the plot, read the comments (which once MDL deleted the Arab trolls' comments are almost overwhelmingly positive), and like one or both of the actors they watch the drama.
Forbes had an interesting article about it recently and came to the conclusion -- at best "unpredictable" as to whether review bombing damages a TV show, as some of the most review bombed have been the most successful.
Where review bombing can damage a show is if it might get a sequel, and Netflix sometimes cancels a second series if a show has been review bombed.
In the case of TDL, though, that isn't ever going to get a second season as it's a stand-alone rom com.
It also doesn't matter, as the powers that be at Netflix know full well it was an Arab temper tantrum, so they're not likely to pay any attention to it. Especially as it's doing brilliantly on their Most Watched lists.
Sure, it's a shame a brilliant rom com got slammed by a bunch of ignorant morons, but far more serious were the death threats the actors, the studio, and the writer were getting from Arab trolls who should have been banned from every platform they piled onto. Savages.
Doesn't matter. Reviews mean nothing. Today, it's currently the #1 most watched TV show on Netflix in Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, El Salvador, and Venezuela.
And it's in the Top 5 in 19 other countries, including United Arab Emirates, Qatar. Don't think their review bombing had any effect, except caused even more people to watch it. π
It's also performing very well both nationwide in S. Korea and Seoul, so... π
hard to compare. King the Land is a good romcom, embraces the cliches and somehow there's also a slight refreshing…
I think 12 episodes is perfect. The screenwriters have written an incredibly tight script that is better than the webtoon in some respects as it explains things better, and still moves at the perfect speed.
They have also added some things that, in another drama I might have been annoyed about, but in this one have been done so well they don't annoy me at all.
If it was 16 episodes, or God forbid, 20, I would be watching it on double speed as the story would be too stretched out.
As it is, it's one of the best K-drama scripts I've seen in a while. Even more impressive considering it seems to be the first screenplay for one writer and only the second screenplay for the second that have been made into a drama.
This drama and king of the land goes head to head in netflix , which is a better watch?
Both equal as far as I'm concerned. For different reasons. But both have phenomenally good casts, main leads are brilliant, the dramas are well-written and, the most important thing for me, each episode flies by so fast I never have chance to get bored. Recommend both. Been lucky this season to get two such stand-out dramas airing at the same time.
Oh come on, you can't lower your score or you're playing into the hands of the Arabs π.
I started doing that when I saw the Arab trolls had downgraded every episode to a 3 or below.
I mean these morons have even downrated episodes that haven't aired yet. Can't fix stupid, eh?
And I don't mind giving KTL a 10 -- I've enjoyed every second of it, especially from Episode 6 onwards, so think the five main actors (4 women and Junho), the writer and the director deserve a 10 purely for my enjoyment level.
Love her personality, how she's always giving Gu Won a hard time even though she doesn't really mean it. π…
Ooh and I also stumbled across a Korean house show on YouTube last week where she was the voice over presenter. Recognized her voice as soon as she spoke. Immediately subscribed to the channel even though I don't speak Korean and YouTube's automatic translation is dreadful π.
Grandma continues to be the mvp π You go, grandma, teach those kids the proper way of living!
Love her personality, how she's always giving Gu Won a hard time even though she doesn't really mean it. π Such a phenomenal actress. One of my favorites for the last 20 years. And, thank God, at 85, still hasn't slowed down and still in as many dramas as she always was.
The screenwriter did an awesome job with Episode 9. Really showed the euphoria people feel when they first fall in love, and how they will do anything just to spend a few more minutes with their new love interest -- Gu Won drinking 97 cups of coffee just so he can stare at Sa Rang a bit longer. Gu Won wanting to do a 10th walk around the block. Gu Won... Yeah, pretty much all Gu Won π
