Sadly this may be a miss for me. Li Yi Tong's voice actress sounds awful, and the plot has been changed so much from the original anime (which is superb), it's barely recognizable. So effing disappointed, as I had been really looking forward to this one.
Will give Episode 1 a shot, but it's likely to be an easy drop for me.
Yes they changed SML and 3ML's place . Sakujun is now SML and The SML in the novel is played by riley wang as…
That's what I plan on doing. Especially when you throw in they've used a horrible voice actress for Li Yi Tong's character and, with that, plus the massively changed plot (the anime is one of my all-time favorites) I hate this thing before it even starts.
Unfortunately, Chinese "writers" and I use that term loosely, as many Chinese dramas are written by not-particularly talented committees, often destroy an original work. Look at how many C-dramas we get where an original happy ending gets changed to a sad one because the idiots writing it thought it was "better".
I understand concerns and even disappointment cus of your fave anime series. I'm still cursing screen writers…
Sadly, it's likely to be a not watch for me (although I will give the first episode a go). I love, love, love, the original anime, but the FL didn't sound like an effing 5-year-old girl like the voice actress has Li Yi Tong sounding in this. Sooooo tired of C-dramas doing this to grown women.
I really misunderstood the relationship between the two marquis's sons apparently. I though they really hated…
I commented about the relationship between Qin and the son below. And no, the son didn't hate Qin, although, I think Qin hated the son because he got the attention Qin wanted from the Marquis.
I also thought he hates his brother but nah, he saved his life.
Also, don't forget, the Marquis' son kept making an effort with Qin Cang asking him to drink with him, go fishing with him, eat with him, and every time Qin Cang looked down his nose at him and treated him like he wasn't worth his time.
In a way, you can't blame him for ultimately becoming antagonistic towards him, as it seemed obvious that was the treatment he'd had from Cang for years.
In my opinion, all the Marquis' son wanted was a big brother he could look up to, and who would spend time with him because he's lonely. Instead, he got Cang who treated him like he was dirt on his shoe.
No wonder he put a stop to Cang getting that position he had been promised. He was retaliating for the way Cang had treated him.
But, when Cang's life was in danger, he still rushed out to warn him. Something Cang didn't deserve, IMO.
NO LIKE LITERALLY, i have been watching cdramas for years and as time went by the plot became predictable to me…
I've just come off The Vendetta of An with some of the craziest most unexpected twists ever (love that drama!), but this one has had a few completely unexpected ones as well. Very satisfying and fun to watch, IMO :)
Maybe it's just me, but saw some comments saying the consummation scene at the end of 23 was too plain and timid,…
It was a typical fish-lip scene. Bland, dull, not remotely sensual and anti-climactic. (Then again, there's no chemistry between the two leads, so that's to be expected). Pretty normal for a C-drama, I'd say :)
Qin Cang. Could have chosen to be a good guy. Could have chosen to go work for the princess as she asked him to.…
Exactly. It was obvious when the Marquis was talking to him and promising him the world. And, if he had more than 3 brain cells, he should have known it. The princess warned him that the Marquis was on the outs with the Empress, that's why she wanted him to work for her. He knew what was happening in the Palace as well, and that the Marquis was suspected of collaborating with Cangbei so would soon lose the Empress's favor, and he knew the guy was a scumbag who couldn't be trusted. But he still chose to trust him, proving he also wasn't as bright as he obviously believed he was.
And all that would be fine, as people make mistakes. Especially if they want someone to love them who probably never will. But, when he chose to murder someone, plus stab a few other people on the way, he went from being pitiful to as big of a scumbag as the Marquis in my book.
Qin Cang. Could have chosen to be a good guy. Could have chosen to go work for the princess as she asked him to. Instead... chooses to murder a guy, plus stab a few other people on his way out of the prison after knowing the Marquis is an absolute scumbag and not to be trusted.
NO sympathy for him at this point. If he's dead. Whatever.
You are in the minority, as it's one of the most popular dramas right now. Both in China and internationally (it…
Well don't feel guilty if you don't like it. There are plenty of C-dramas many people loved and I HATED. :) It's all a matter of personal taste after all. :)
She's the consort of the late emperor. This is why she addresses the empress dowager jiejie. She should be the…
Like Aramintai said, concubines/consorts were never allowed to leave the Palace once they were taken by an emperor as a concubine or consort. UNLESS the emperor allowed it which only happened in very rare cases, for instance when a concubine/consort was handed over to another man as a prize after said man did something that benefitted the empire.
In some Chinese dynasties, the emperor had hundreds (and one had thousands) of concubines. Many of these women were given to the Emperor/appropriated by him at the age of 13, 14 or 15 years old, yet he may only visit them for one night or not at all during their entire lives. They then spent the rest of their lives trapped behind the palace walls, banned from ever speaking to anyone from the outside. Horrific abuse, but that was China for thousands of years. During the Ming Dynasty was the worst for women being trapped in the Palace with thousands upon thousands taken, often against their will.
You are in the minority, as it's one of the most popular dramas right now. Both in China and internationally (it exceeded 300 million views in China alone yesterday and counting). The drop rate on MDL too is very low. Plus, it's so fast-paced, it would be difficult for it to be boring.
It does have it's problems, granted, but I wouldn't say "boring" is one of them :) Sorry you didn't enjoy it.
Somehow the more villains are plotting, the less interesting it becomes, often cartoonish. Def not the brightest…
Parts of it are becoming idiotic. A wheelchair wielding fighter against 10 men with blades comes out the only one alive - idiotic. Someone who could barely walk a few days ago suddenly takes down one of Cangbei's strongest fighters nobody else could beat -- idiotic.
At this point, the writer wants us to suspend all semblance of belief in reality and pretend any of this makes sense and, nope, not up for it :)
Still enjoying it as it is fast paced, but it's become more poorly written than I expected.
Bai Lu is also even more blank faced than usual, which, again is irritating.
i found this spoiler video but dont know if its true https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eleGDpKdp_M
You're probably better not believing random videos on YouTube. There is a lot of utter crap on YT from so-called drama fans who spew b*llshit just to get people to click so they make money, including those who trash actors so badly some have been taken to court and found guilty of libel. I never believe anything until the drama itself shows it. Saves a lot of aggravation and stress :)
This is spectacular. Incredibly well-written, no gaping plot holes, intricately mapped out political intrigue and deception, the most fascinating twists and turns, superb performances from every actor, including the ones portraying the characters I detested :) The veteran actors especially are spectacular.
And, IMO, Cheng Yi's best performance yet among many phenomenal performances. 28 of the best episodes of a C-drama I have ever watched, and going on my very short list of C-dramas to watch again, as I have a feeling I still missed so much.
Loved the OST as well - had it on repeat on Spotify and YouTube Music for weeks now.
It also seems pretty obvious to me we will be getting a Season 2 of this. Not only because of the special episode, but also as the drama has earned 1.2 billion views, and is down as one of the most successful C-dramas of 2026. The producers aren't going to pass that pot of gold up, IMO.
Will give Episode 1 a shot, but it's likely to be an easy drop for me.
