I'm sorry, I doubt it will get better. I mean it got like a 4.7 on Dondan rating, and there was a lot of complaints about the series from Netizens. The only reason why I am finishing the series is for Hanian and Mingyi's storyline, because I value those who fought despite the limited power they possess, than for someone who has everything deliver to them on a silver platter.
Yeah I am most disappointed with that too. I think this is an awesome, very complex role but Tang Yan so far has…
Of course, she is. If I am her, I would be haunting the dreams of those scriptwriters and directors just for kicks.
I love my fair share of anti-heroes because they are more relatable. Saints do exist in this world, but not in these characters they are trying to portray, because logically if they acted that way, they would not have made it into the history books.
Yanyan doesn't have to be a fierce warrior, but at least show me she's at the level of her husband's intelligence, who is a sickly bookworm for heaven's sake. And she can't even compete with him even when he's bedridden. That's how lame she has become.
You're right, if the series is called the "Story of Liao Dynasty" or "The Legend of Xiao"(Similar to Legend of…
Yes I did. YingLuo-Fuheng's respect each other and their positions after she became a concubine. They do not meet or converse unncessary if there is no need, which was more business than anything no matter how they feel.
However, Yanyan-Deramg definitely do not follow appropriate protocol when she's the Queen. Everyone in the Kingdom already knew they were ex fiance, and since the King is sickly, them being that close would only cause other to question the heir's legitimacy.

Making her morally grey or even an antagonist like Ady's Elder Dugu Character from the Legend of Dugu would have made this a massive success. Xiao Yanyan had been historically known as an antagonist from novels to plays, operas, and poems. However, due to the Chinese's moral sensitivity code, they have to make all their leading female a saint. I mean, Fanbingbing's version of The first Empress of China was the same way, but at least that one shows she has a brain. This is why when watching cdramas, 80% of the time, I root for the second lead and villains. HAHAHA
You're right, if the series is called the "Story of Liao Dynasty" or "The Legend of Xiao"(Similar to Legend of…
You're completely correct. The other series, she was par on par with other leads. While in this series, more and more viewers think of her as the FL.
I blame the poor script, especially how male centric it had become, because they're the ones pullng the strings. Other female characters, from the 2nd sister, concubine, and to the maid spy...there are not that many smart intelligent women around.
You're right, if the series is called the "Story of Liao Dynasty" or "The Legend of Xiao"(Similar to Legend of…
Charmaine is the Queen of stealing the show. She doesn't have to be the main character, as long as she can outshine them with the right role. She did that with Yanxi Palace and Winter Begonia for both Mainland productions, and now in Xiao Chuo.
Yeah I am most disappointed with that too. I think this is an awesome, very complex role but Tang Yan so far has…
I laughed when others used the example of dressing down a concubine to show how strong Yanyan is.
Really? This historical figure who brought hell and fire down to the Southern Song Dynasty for decades, killing many descendants of the Yang's Clan, is reduced to harem banters? Who wrote this script!
Both Hanian and Mingyi are great characters to watch, I agree. They're the only ones holding the show.
You're right, if the series is called the "Story of Liao Dynasty" or "The Legend of Xiao"(Similar to Legend of…
It was her husband's vision, not hers that changed the course of Liao's Dynasty. He's the bookworm, despite his health. At least show that she is also into reading as much as he, but they didn't even show that part.
Once he's gone, the person who is fighting the battles will be her ex-lover, not because he respects her as a Queen, which a general should, but because he's in love with her. Which only devalues her worth.
For those who read the novel, the consensus seems to be that they prefer Hunian's character and storyline more. And this still translates to the live adaptation.
What's disappointing is that they sold their series about an intelligent warrior queen who modernized the Liao…
Exactly! Apparently her arrow shooting skills is at prodigy level because we have not seen her practice it even once, (spending all her days at the table having her hair done, eating dinner, and conversing, rarely reading a book if I might add) but she could shoot at the most powerful figures at any given time.
Feeling up to Ep 34 the title should be The Legend of Mingyi (cough*cough*)? He is the strategist and brains trapped…
What's disappointing is that they sold their series about an intelligent warrior queen who modernized the Liao Dynasty, but all we're seeing are perfect competent men clearing the path for her because they both have a thing for her. Romance is not even needed for this story if she fought for the position herself, and show her worth.
and I'm getting a little bit tired of the trope where the main female character has to become a queen/an empress…
My drama friends and I are actually only watching for Hunian. Even the readers of the novel, many prefer Hunian's storyline and personality more than Yanyan. Especially when Hunian did all she could to protect her family and their future, including sacrifice herself many times over. Her actions are justified considering how much she lost.
I started to feel disappointed with Yan Yan's character after watching eps 26.This time, 2 episodes succeeded…
You're right, if the series is called the "Story of Liao Dynasty" or "The Legend of Xiao"(Similar to Legend of Dugu, 3 sisters who all ended up with the title Queen of 3 different Dynasties), then it would make more sense.
At this point, I blame the script because they don't seem to know what to do with Yanyan's character. Instead of showing the audience why she deserves/earns the Queen's position, instead, it was the people around her who raised and supported her behind the scenes. No different than having the crown delivered on the platter.
In many adaptions, Xiao Yanyan was the most prominent antagonist of the Generals of the Yang's Clan from the Southern Song Dynasty. A fierce warrior and leader who reign for decades, protecting Liao from invasions and continued expansion. However, this series more than halfway through did not show how this character is important for the Liao Dynasty's survival. Other characters continue to verbally describe's her special vision and personality, but we rarely see that in her.
I am actually more invested in the Elder's sister story, Xiao Hunian (like I did with Ady An's tragic character, the Elder Dugu Sister in Legend of Dugu.) Following the novel, Xiao Hunian will also have two men in her life, but more importantly, the romance is overwhelmed with respect and devotion, beyond the caste system, which I am looking forward to seeing.
While I cannot comment on your opinion of the drama which I respect since everyone is entitled to their own, I…
Growing up with Jackie Chan movies, before he was even a star, and how the drama was promoting the drama as a Jackie Chan's directed drama, plus emphasis/advertisement on the martial art scenes directed by the cinematic martial artist God himself.
It was a bit a disappointment when it was nothing but a common China political drama. Which are in abundance to say the least. If it was not adertised the way it did, then the expectation wouldn't had been high, and the audience would had had been disappointed.
It's true, especially since the character of Lin Xun speaks in korean to Jun Cheng, you'd expect Jun Cheng to…
Often time in bilingual/multilingual family, enviroment, and country, this is quite normal. Language are intermix. For example, my family reunion can consist of three different languages, and pretty much everyone understands each other. Eastern Canada, is french/english, so it's also common for both languages to be spoken at the same time.
