They are super Low budget this season, only had 20 staff overall compared to 70-80 staff only for editing last…
I imagine that because of the idol competitions ban in China, they couldn't get the usual sponsors therefore why Jackson Wang is a co-producer. It's a shame it's so low budget ngl 🥲
Can you share some of the important changes that you think made the drama less impactful?I don’t mind spoilers…
So, the drama kinda toned down the main guy's pathetic vibe. In the webtoon, there's no big, tragic death scene before his job interview; he just bombs it. Eventually, he stops trying to land a job altogether, lets his place turn into a dump, and stops bothering with personal hygiene—basically becoming a neet. Fast forward a bit, and his girlfriend's had enough, ditches him, and marries someone else a few months later. That's when he thinks about calling it quits on life.
The webtoon shows grittier scenes & characters. Like, in one part, he ends up being a pedophile, which is where it really hits him that maybe some people are just wired wrong from the start. Also, the writer from the coffee shop? Not his ex. She's a totally different character, but in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really change much since she ends up dying anyway.
Personally, I found the webtoon way darker, more like it's just laying out the cold, hard facts. It doesn't really pick a side on the whole suicide debate, which was something I appreciated. The journey felt more real, too, watching this guy go from zero to finally getting a clue about himself. The ending's pretty much the same, but there's this one bit I thought was cool - when he's living as his mom, a journalist shows up wanting an interview because she heard that she was always saying "I'm my son." Turns out, the journalist is actually the daughter of the cop's partner he incarnated once. After listening to her stories, she makes her own research and ends up realizing the old lady didn't lie about anything and that she was probably her dad's old partner who passed away when she was little.
They really need a better editing team. The girls are really good, but their talents can't shine through this awful editing/audio. Sometimes we don't even have the audio track, so we can't hear what they say :(
