On Love Like the Galaxy: Part 1 Aug 31, 2022
I finished part 1, it´s overall ok so far, but imo overrated, does not come close to my fav c-dramas like MingLan, Nirvana, JoL, Yanxi or Changan.

A lot of unnecessary misunderstanding, illogical events (why the hell are they not teaching her etiquette yet criticize it whenever they go out somewhere...), overlong plotlines (for example engagement with Lou Yao) and so forth.

A lot of interesting setup that is wasted, for example the talents of FL were hardly used, meanwhile we get countless pebbles with annoying brats that are constantly saying the same and need to be put in their place.

So yeah, can´t really understand the rating so far, maybe part 2 will be better.

Honestly just from looking at the cast and stills that were released i came to the conclusion that it wouldn’t…
That´s certainly one issue, though i am no purist, nor do i worship the original series or anything.
If they change things, as long as it makes sense and serves a purpose, it´s ok.

Unfortunately nothing makes sense here.

There is maybe one positive difference, Tokyo is less annoying in this one than the original...
Man, this is incredibly bad, can´t believe someone got paid to make this.
I am not someone who believes the OG series was a masterpiece or anything, but it knew very well how to connect to dots to create a suspenseful, albeit at times requiring suspense of disbelief, fun story.

This remake does not hit any of the required points to make it even remotely as enjoyable as the original show, how it is standing at 8.3 is beyond me:

- The setting change (fictional unification story) does not add anything to the narrative, while removing things that made the original worthwhile

- They cut almost all the scenes that showed the heist team having fun with each other and showing personality. Oslo and Helsinki are just two muscleheads in this, in the original show they had humor, wit. Nairobi´s entire background is missing, here she is just a quirky con artist without substance. Rio in this one is a joke through and through, Berlin is just a simple psychopath.

- The main developments of the original show were copied, but not the natural succession of events, so this feels like a cut up unnatural version narrative wise

- The professor, for a supposed genius, misses a lot of things. In the OG show, he was a master planner, but had one weak point, being too naive regarding human behavior. In this, there are a lot of things the Professor does not expect and has no contingency for.

The list goes on....

To each his/her own but i would not waste time on this.

- Everything is less engaging,

I'm honestly torn on starting this or not. I was so impressed by the og so I don't think I'll enjoy any remake…
Seriously, there are many dramas to watch, don´t waste time on this...

I liked your tedtalk, even if i do not completely agree with it. The original gets more credit than it deserves…
I can see that, as i have made the experience with KDramas very often that potential gets squandered for different reasons. I watched maybe a handful that from the beginning knew what they are and wanted and fulfilled it satisfyingly to the end.
Just pointing out that the original by no means fulfilled that aspect of being more than a suspenseful and fun show.

It was sexy (Tokyo mostly), had a lot of turns and mind games (Inspector vs Professor), great acting, mostly from Berlin and so forth.

I'm reading more about the original, and what I think the OG fans mean by 'a sanitized version missing the magic'....…
I liked your tedtalk, even if i do not completely agree with it.
The original gets more credit than it deserves because it was never as well thought out as people claim it to be.
The revolutionary tone was at best a side show, it never delved into it too much.
The Professor´s main motivation the same, not really thought out.

What was fun was the suspense and the turns, the mind game and so forth.

Can you explain about what sarus crane represent?
And in hinudism, sarus cranes are sacred and represent pairship/partnership for life, thats why newlyweds were often taken to see them during a wedding.

Can you explain about what sarus crane represent?
Yeah no problem.

Two meanings.

In buddhism, it comes from a tale of buddha before he become buddha essentially (so still siddharta).
One day he was sitting in his garden, when a sarus crane with an arrow fell down in front of him.
He quickly rescued and healed the bird, but then buddhas cousin came and claimed the bird for himself because he shot it down with his arrow. Buddha and his cousin could not agree, so they asked a wise man/judge. The judge said it belongs to Buddha because he rescued and healed the bird, and everything, including people, belong each other not by harming and killing but by loving and healing (so 1:0 for Gu and MJ).

Just to give people a clue.
This series has often used symbolism to illustrate what is actually happening.

Now without spoilers, those that have seen it will understand the context:
The picture on the 500 won coin is a sarus crane, its meaning derived from both hinduism and buddhism (you will understand how it relates to Gu immediately once you read what it represents).
Its meaning is something widely known in Korea, so nothing too obscure for native Koreans.

Now watch the scene with Gu and the coin, and you will immediately get that it is not really an open ending, just using symbolism to illustrate the authors intention.

Hope that helps.

Nah the sister is pretty understandable as well. Of course she is still annoying, people in real life can be very…
1) She was not calmly stating that she would not date a single father/divorced dad, she was essentially venting her frustration in her drunken state, trying to find excuses, while essentially implying that a single father can´t be seen as legitimate partner, a view point we know she does not have since well, she has been pursuing the guy for most of the show at this point, and not only because he is the first person to crush on.

2) If my child/niece is constantly depressed and traumatized because of events of the past, and someone in their insensitive ways is adding onto the hurt of the child, i sure as hell gonna be the same.
And it´s not like the sister is actively hunting KJ for what she said, she is just not allowing her to enter the father´s and the kid´s life, both because of the hurt she caused, but also because of what she literally said.
She literally stated that she could never love the child because it´s not hers, and there would always be a divide.
Yeah, i am not letting someone who claims that enter my niece´s life.
And KJ would do that, because in the context of their life situation, their age and so forth, they ain´t casually dating, it´s pretty serious.

i really like the explanation i came across by one of the korean viewers so i thought i'd share it here with some…
Yep, the scene felt too "fantastical" to be straight forward, thx

If I have a sister like TH, I would probably kill myself. But then again we have yet to seen his story as well.…
Nah the sister is pretty understandable as well. Of course she is still annoying, people in real life can be very annoying as well, but separates this show is, it´s still understandable.

1) The kid still remembers what Ki Jung blurted out in the first episode, and they are very overprotective over the kid because of what happened with her mother, understandably so.

2) Connected to that, because of what happened, the three siblings essentially decided to live for her (whether that´s actually smart to do, putting that aside), but now the brother is essentially dating again, breaking their "pact".

Title My Liberation Notes Spoiler
I liked the juxtaposition of the following interactions.1. Ki Jung texting Tae Hoon to tell her who beat him up…
I think you are half right since in both cases, while they did not like how the other acted, the reason why they don´t like it is because their own reservations and fears, and both are aware they feel like that because they are afraid and want to change that.

MJ literally spells it out, she wants to get there and be as assertive as Gu wants her to be but she is not there yet, thus wants him to heal her and build her up enough so that she can get there (meaning self worth).

The other guy can´t deal with how op KJ is, while he is much more reserved, thus at first taken aback, but he also wants to change (cue liberation).

Mi Jeong & Mr Gu: - When are you going to kiss?! They really should stop tormenting the audience. Again, a missed…
The show is going for realism, you won´t get physical intimacy in a realistic Korean drama when they are not a real couple for at least a few weeks
