Choices, choices, so many choices every hour. I pretty much binge watched the first half because it was so thrilling…
Since you seem to be watching it right now, do you know the episode in which the parade happens with the female and male singer?

Yes, and it is actually intellectually stimulating as well.

Yep exactly. And looking at Li Bi´s future career and importance, yet his lack of personal ambition, he is the perfect protagonist.

Interesting perspective. I might check out his other works since I quite like his writing style, and many praise…
Chief Kim had the same playfulness of the characters, but it never seemed out of place, and the transition between comedy and serious stuff was great.
And most importantly, the behavior and the motivation of the main character was always understandable and justifiable.

In this, a lot of stuff were completely preventable if the MC just got over himself.
Of course the last episode had a badass conclusion, but if you think about the sacrifices along the way, it puts a different perspective on it.

This remains behind the writer Park Jae-Bum´s last two dramas for me. especially Chief Kim, which is an all time favorite of mine. This has more superficial appeal for a mainstream audience, especially through the two main characters and their relationship, but there are too many illogical things to ignore, and the switch-up between comedy and drama did not always work.
Mostly though, i think both Chief Kim and Fiery Priest had the better main male protagonist.

They're not talking about drinking at the end of episode 8 right?
No, it was a creative way to suggest they had sex without breaking the rules of the 15+ rating

Minglan had one of the best couples ever
Nirvana in Fire was really emotional for me due to the weight the protagonist carried to avenge 70.000 of his brothers, plus it was pretty intelligent
Joy in Life has very good themes that have depth, so it stimulates reflection
Yanxi Palace had the best strategic characters

This is recommendable if you want to see a tranquil, but still impactful and emotional love story, it´s a fairy-tale like, beautiful romance. Everything else, not so much, meaning when the drama is kept low and you see the couple meeting each other, getting to know each other, interact in every form, it´s really beautiful, but beyond that, there is nothing else noteworthy. You have the usual "i have baggage, hence we can´t be together" plotline that 90% of romance K-Dramas have, chaebols interfering in a innocent relationship, the most hateful mothers i have seen so far in K-Drama (besides Secret Garden) and the usual clichés. Furthermore, to me it seemed like the writer is not used to the pacing of dramas considering her movies are usually really good to great in that department, yet in her dramas some subplots take a huge amount of time, whereas others are completely underdeveloped.
For example, there is no need for the second male lead whatsoever in the story, he barely does anything beyond stare sadly into the camera and that´s it, a really thankless job for the actor who seems to be typecasted for that kind of role, 4th time i have seen him play the almost exact role.

So yeah, beautiful romance and couple with great cinematography and good OST, everything else not so much, 7/10.

This is recommendable mostly for the girl power and the setting of the show, the IT industry, more specific search portals. All three romantic couples are pretty much lackluster for different reasons. And to be frank, this is the first show that i was not interested in the main couple at all. The female lead just seems to have been molded to hold modern and feminist values without any explanation or background whatsoever, she seemed more like a plot device than a three-dimensional character. at least in that aspect, and the male lead simply can´t act, he is so stiff and monotone. Plus he simply exists to oppose the female lead´s views while being a completely unrealistic character himself, which contradicts the otherwise realistic atmosphere the show tries to create.
Normally unrealistic characters are no problem if your aim is to show something ideal, whatever that may be, but that´s not the case here.
So the first couple wasvery boring to watch, since they went around the same issue for almost the entire drama through confrontations over and over, and in the end no solution.
The second couple was ok, but their central obstacle made no sense whatsoever, especially for people who are close to 30 or over it, like Cha Hyeon was. The fan-celebrity dynamic made no sense whatsoever, and seemed like an artificial way to keep them apart to create unnecessary drama.
And the dynamic of the third couple was actually interesting considering the arranged marriage and all, but it remained too superficial in the end since they did not get much screentime.

On the other hand, the drama excels in showing three intelligent, independent and powerful women with different personalities in context of their work, and the relationships between them, which seemed to be the main focus anyway since it is a very female-centric drama. The main female characters hold the reins, are the most competent, usually are the ones to act and not react, and are the catalysts of the developments... In that sense, it is really recommendable, since unfortunately competent women in dramas are rare.
In addition, the industry they work in, especially the political, cultural and social implications of seemingly minor changes of a portal site, was very interesting.

Finally, another thing to mention is the cinematography, which was really hit or miss. They tried to put a different spin to the show by having unconventional shots and scenes, but half the time it was completely nonsensical and made the scene simply worse, sometimes it was very confusing what they even wanted to express. When it worked, it was great, especially in montages of showing people work or how they spent times apart, but other times the show was either too bright, or you had idiotic close-ups, or the editing and cutting was so rapid for no apparent reason.

So, for something different to watch, this is recommendable, but don´t expect engaging romantic plots, at best 7/10.

Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but I really thought that the main couple should not have been together…
No, you hit it on the nail, that´s the main problem with them. They have opposing values, and while the values and dreams of the ML get explained due to his past, the FL seems to exist in a void. The character seems pretty flat, and just has those values to create the central issue of their relationship. And yes, the ending did not solve anything.

I really enjoyed the story in this one--a lot more than I did the lead romance, actually. I did find their relationship…
The entire show is like that though, it´s a feminist dream through and through, nothing wrong with that considering the decades of immature fantasy stories for men, but nevertheless has nothing to do with realism.

That´s how it works sometimes in real life opposed to dramaland. Some people remain in toxic relationships, the people we root for might not end up together and so forth.
To be honest, Han Hoo and Jae Hoon had 0 romantic chemistry and scenes, it´s just we came to expect everyone getting the usual ending because we got used to it.

But why do I like it so much that I keep wanting to comment every episode I watch?
I feel the same way, there is actually a lot to talk about in this drama, you can actually write an analysis of each episode, might be a nice idea if a rewatch group comes along some time in the future.
On Be Melodramatic Apr 6, 2021
This was such a positive surprise. I put off watching it after seeing the poster and the first 10 minutes or so, creating the impression that it´s just another wannabe feministic show (when it is actually done right and not superficial, for example like the movie Kim Ji Young, it is obviously important, but often times it really remains either at superficial level or is only virtue signaling) with a bratty lead that mistakes that for being strong, but i could not have been more mistaken.

The show is ultimately a deconstruction of any cliché, trope of characters, actions and so forth, Romance K-Dramas have created for decades. This can be the usual minor plot devices such as wrist grabs, the face slaps and so forth, but ultimately it´s about demystifying K-Drama relationships by putting a very realistic lens over them. And while doing that, the show is so witty, surprising, self-aware and meta, it is very unpredictable, which is very rare for a drama of this genre. It´s like an education of how relationships actually work, can work out, and require actual reflection of people in relationships. And connecting that with the meta approach of actually creating a romance drama, it really works perfectly.

There are maybe one or two specific things that i did not like but those can be overlooked, 10/10.
