I still don't understand what message they were trying to send through Jae Hoon and Ha Yoon's terrible relationship.…
I think the writer´s primary aim with the entire drama was to deconstruct all the clichés that usual K-Dramas about Romance created and have shown that actually both influenced the behavior of people in real life and also the perception of what we expect and accept of a drama of that genre. There is not so much a grand theme of their relationship, it´s just sometimes these things happen, they are never as simple as usual Dramas make them out to be, hence why he was partly at fault for their relationship as well. In any other drama Jae Hoon would have gotten together with the single mother to have a happy ending, but since they want to keep it locked in realism and possible realistic outcomes, well here we are.
Having said that, i agree with you though, because his lack of understanding of their relationship does not excuse her behavior at all, and i feel like the need to be different from normal dramas and be realistic overshadowed the characters on an individual basis, so while it works for the overall theme of the drama, it does not work of the characters themselves in my opinion.
What are your top 5 or top 10? I agree. This drama was a masterpiece. The festival scene with the singer on the…
In no particular order
Nirvana in Fire Story of Minglan Joy of Fire Story of Yanxi Palace Battle of Changsha
and then this show.
This show´s cinematography, OST, acting and so forth, was so much ahead of typical C-Dramas, it´s like a new medium almost. And yeah, i will probably never forget that scene, really memorable, unfortunately did not find it on Youtube to rewatch.
In 88, they were highschool students as well though. I think the difference is, in 88, the essential point is the melancholy and the nostalgic feeling they get when thinking of their youth, in 97 the focus was more on what actually happened in 97.
the BEST Kdrama for me...watched it 4 times and never tired of it. Love how all the cast have chemistry, and great…
Yep, that´s what most people have missed who are complaining about the outcome. The drama made a clear distinction between her first two crushes and the character she actually ends up with, especially if you rewatch it, it´s fairly obvious.
Recently rewatched this since quarantine and all, still feel the same, nearly perfect example of a rom-com done right. The main characters were both among the most likeable protagonists i have seen, for the mosz part the writer did not add any artificial drama to extend the length, no straight out evil characters, an actual mature relationship where characters who actually show their desires, whether sexually or emotionally.... 9.5/10, for its genre its really good.
I really tried to like this but i could not get into it, watched up to episode 9 and it was quite boring, did not like any of the characters, and while rationally i understood their pain and suffering due to the events of the past, i could not feel them and empathize, it was too bland. Really a pity since the cinematography was great.
This was ok, mostly held up by the acting which was top-notch as usual from Ji Sung and Han Ji-Min, rightfully two of my favorite actors, and the themes. But the journey itself did not make much sense towards the ending, the show did not know sometimes what tone it wanted to set (pretty serious stuff was played off comedically which did not make much sense considering the characters were still in the thick of things.
Plus the time-traveling and its implications on the characters had so many holes that you could not ignore, it really pulled down everything else. It would have been fine if it was used as a simple plot device to get the narrative started in the beginning, similar to Go Back Couple for example, but since it was a big part of the story throughout and impacted it in a significant way, it should have been thought out much more.
Just finished this, it´s pretty good, though still confined within usual family drama shenanigans that can be skipped, especially the aunty romance and fake aunt stuff, both pretty silly plot lines.
Main positive thing for me was how relatable the main characters and their problem was, especially for people who come from a similar culture (in my case Turkish, which has the addition of being an Islamic culture, but the real implications are pretty similar to Korean Culture, whether it´s overzealous parents who try to control and meddle with everything, lack of communication in relationships, marriage being beyond a relationship of two individuals and so forth). On that front, it is worth a watch.
I really wish to watch a drama that a couple separates and they live happily on their own ...i don't get why korean…
It depends on the context. In this case, it is pretty apparent that they separated not because they wanted to but because they were not mature enough for a real committed relationship, and needed the time apart to grow and learn how to be a team.
The weekend family dramas are made to be relatable, especially for people who grew up in Korean or a similar culture ( for me turkisj). I have been watching "Once Again" the last few days, and could relate to so many things incorporated, whether its about the relationships between adults and their parents, the individualist vs group mentality and so forth.
Rewatched it recently after seeing it in a list on this site, still pretty good. Main attraction is the main couple, their bickering, sweet, cute and mature interaction is pretty rare in K-Drama land. The writing was witty and hit the mark, comedic scenes were pretty good as well. Main negative points are the second leads, both male and female, whose sole purpose is to drag everything down and create nonsensical drama. It´s a real pity, both the actress (Han Chae-Ah) and actor (Park Hee-Soon) are really good, but they do not get much to work with unfortunately. Plus there was some forced drama towards the end which seemed unnecessary, all in all 7.5-8.0 on my scale, which is pretty good, which on this site would translate to 8.5-9.0.
This drama was a mess, sometimes a good mess nonetheless, but still a mess, so it´s pretty overrated here.
1) The pacing was horrendous. 80% of the drama was spent with misunderstandings, lies, people missing each other, acting completely irrational
2) In addition, the 80% was barely filled with any answers or developments. The developments everyone watching knew would happen were artificially extended further and further, and then everything got revealed almost simultaneously towards the ending.
3) The nephew´s love plot line was completely unnecessary and needlessly convoluted things.
4) Did not feel the main couple to be honest.
On the other hand, the main reason why i watched this was that i was so overwhelmed and impressed by Shin Hye Sun´s acting in "My Queen" that i decided to see other stuff with her and on that front, she did not disappoint here either, albeit she had less to work with than in My Queen, but nonetheless she really was the highlight of the drama, her range is really impressive. And there were some funny or sweet moments as well.
Very good recommendations. Jo Seung Woo is always a must-watch for me, one of the best K-actors by far. Brain was such a thrilling ride, and it had one of the most complex main character in a K-Drama and a very good actor to bring it to life. One scene in particular i never forgot, the acting was so touching and on-point, you could not help but empathize with such a polarizing protagonist.
And All about Romance is one of the best rom-coms i have seen, set in a pretty interesting context (opposing political parties). I think one of the main reasons why it is rated so low is the fact that the protagonists are over 30 and not your typical idol actors.
What´s more infuriating than a bad show is a good show that could have been much more with a bit of constraint and less economic intentions. This is such a high quality production, from setting, costumes, the acting (brilliant) and so forth but it is held back by being way too convoluted and dragged out.
You know what pisses me off about the show? The fact that Xu Bin used Long Bo's righteous anger for his own benefit,…
Xu Bin was another representation of the corruption of the Empire and as result its inevitable downfall, or at least the rebellion. He was a highly competent official who was overlooked due to his lack of connections and either political or economic power. And since the show was mostly about how the Tang Empire, which was initially one of the most prosperous dynasties Chinese people are proud of (alongside Han Dynasty), really slowly decayed, it was a fitting adversary. And Long Bo was not really used, he knew all the way what he was doing. Rather, i was really disappointed how Long Bo was easily influenced by the emperor knowing their names, that felt really anti-climatic. Knowing their names is meaningless if you can´t protect them from corrupt people taking their lives or exploiting them, it was a perfect representation of the emperor and the empire he created, superficially great but if you look or think just a bit more, you see how futile and meaningless it all is.
