Liar Game's quite an old series but it's good to an extent. I liked it very much though. However, unlike AiBL, they focus more on brain games. So I think it depends on the audience's preference. Try watching it, I recommend ^^. Another recommendation is Kurosagi (there are 2 versions).

You're right. The story is good but as time goes by, some 'main' characters are getting on my nerves. There are some but it's especially Liu Chui Chui. I did like her character in the earlier episodes, but later she gets on my nerves whenever she pops up. Tbh, even the supporting role, Sun Tan, who doesn't have much screen time was a whole lot better. I tried to like her but just can't, she's infuriating me with whatever she does. I don't understand why she's a main role. Also, both Yan Xing and Shen Du have their character developments, but still, I'm not convinced she's matured enough. Being all righteous and not caring about the consequences of her 'heroic' actions only brings trouble for her and Shen Du. *sigh* However, acting-wise, she did well; it's just her character... Ding Yu Xi is carrying this drama. Like you, I also considered leaving this on-hold but thought of finishing this even if I have to skip several parts... It got draggy at some point, with not enough thrill.
