As a woman addicted to BL i can tell you maybe why i like it. First i love romance genre, straight or gay, period. Basically I love angst, love that cannot be contained, desire to have your loved one loving you back, chemistry, stories revolving around two people falling in love and/or fighting for it, steamy kisses, shared emotions. Now in BL there is some sexual tension and transcription you hardly find in typical straight romance, i mean they usually go for it. i just love the explicit passion. Maybe also one thing i like is that often the characters are coming out with this new found love. I think it is beautiful to acknowledge you love someone so much you are ready to face society and family and stand for it. I know nowadays there is a lot of pro LGBT+, but it's still hard somehow. I think this adds a deeper meaning to the love story, same as if it was between 2 countries in war, or kind of Romeo and Juliet story. Sorry if it sounds stupid haha I also love the so called gay panic. in the end it is just getting butteflies from interactions of 2 people on screen. I also watched some lesbian drama/movies back in the day but they were tamer, therefore it was harder for me to get the butterflies like in BL.
