People are forgetting this is a Tan Jianci drama. He is the MC. The story has to revolve around him. Jin Shijia is a special starring. As said in interviews, shen yi will go into more depth of exploration of human psychology..and du cheng is his brake, who will keep him from straying. This is the theme of season 2 which is completely different from s1. Ducheng is doing his job too ( for example, following back and forth the mountain guy) to search for evidential based proofs. But shen yi is focusing more on the greyer side.
Tbh, if s2 was just a continuation and repetition of cases from s1, it would have been boring for me. I like the change. Cases are no longer black and white, but going grey. Shen yi's mental health deteriorating and du cheng being worried for him, i just like how things have evolved from s1.

Exactly.. this season has more complicated human behaviour related cases and I'm happy they didn't repeat the same theme from season 1. JCT always challenges himself to do something new and the way things are going in this season, I'm anticipating the dark side of shen yi resulting from various psychological variables.

It was enemies to friends in S1.. that's a fan favourite genre. But they can't do the same thing again and again. In this season they are depicting how friends can have disagreements but still care for each other. I don't know what more people are expecting from their relationship? And I don't understand why people are saying du cheng is being side lined..all i can see is both of them trying to solve the cases in their own ways which is causing some conflicts and which is quite normal when both parties have their own conjectures.
Talking about popularity, both iqiyi and tencent heat indexes are quite high and is still growing..so there's no doubt that this season is no inferior to S1.
tbh I think Tan Jianci should slow down a bit with his projects because some of the dramas he's picked aren't…
Dude, no one is blaming him ..this drama is a hit fyi .. not only his, the whole crew is getting praises for good acting. After LYF2, we all needed exactly this drama to heal.. a light comedy with an uncommon plot... It's 100 times better than taking up the same old cliche or tragic ml roles repeatedly. JCT likes to explore various genres otherwise he finds it boring. He always looks for different challenges, and undoubtedly, his comedic role here in go east is beyond great! If you don't find it funny or unlikeable then just drop the drama, but don't disrespect people who genuinely likes the drama by calling it 'not good enough or poor'.
