I'm not saying it's impossible,I said a sad ending would feel more realistic to me given the story the show is telling. Your experience is real, but it's still one person's experience. Many queer people in that era also faced rejection, discrimination, or had to stay closeted. Both realities existed. That's why I said more realistic, not the only realistic outcome.
I don't care about physical cheating" is a wild standard. Physical and emotional cheating aren't mutually exclusive,both can break trust. A drama can portray morally gray situations, but that doesn't mean viewers have to excuse or normalize the characters' actions.
And for your information, they didn't just kiss once,they had a proper make-out. scene. It's up to you whether you want to believe that or not, but saying physical cheating doesn't matter is, in my opinion, a morally questionable stance.
Is the romance obvious in the novel? Is it a slow burn? I’m only on episode 5 (or 10 with the split version),…
I haven't read the novel, so I can't really comment on the romance there, but I've heard the original novel is a BL. The drama is censored, so the romance is mostly conveyed through subtle hints and incredible chemistry. It's honestly the best series I've ever watched.

I'm genuinely glad you had a positive experience coming out back then. However, everyone's perspective is different. For many queer people, both past and present, coming out carries massive risks of discrimination. Given the heavy themes of the show, a happy ending just feels unrealistic to me personally, even if it gives others hope.
Are you really that dumb or are you just pretending? Even a kiss is considered cheating. If that's normal to you, you should seriously rethink your standards. I don't care if it's in fiction, but I'll never normalize it in real life.
I was really enjoying this until Episode 4, but Episode 5 has been hard to get through. I keep forcing myself to watch it, hoping the story gets better, but I'm starting to lose hope.

So, the drama that Zhang Zhun and Zhen Xin are filming isn't fictional at all. it's actually based on a true story within their world! There are a real Fang Chi and Gao Zhun living in the exact same universe as Zhang Zhun and Zhen Xin. The book Deep in the Act was actually written by a friend of the real Fang Chi based on their actual lives, and then it got adapted into this drama. By the end of the story, both of the couples actually cross paths! Because of this, I'm thinking we might even get a new set of actors to play the "real" Fang Chi and Gao Zhun for the ending.
