Ironic that the Mom favoured the younger son to improve their families reputation and protect them but he instead is selfish and cowardly that he would rather run and hide than face up to his actions.

Although I do like XL for XY, I don’t mind Jing because what XY said is true…
It is easy to be violent and show anger but being good hearted when you have suffered is rare and shows inner strength too. XY needs someone to love and grow with not someone who probably has not healed effectively from their trauma like she has. If she were to be with anyone else apart from Jing, her life would be difficult.
I also realise she cannot be with XL because even if he did surrender and became her partner, people would always be suspicious of them; XL because he obviously was their enemy for along time and XY because she is also the daughter of the enemy’s general.
I only critique the pacing and development of Jing as much they are TELLING and not SHOWING us why Jing is good for her. Adding Cang Xuan into scenes meant for the two of them is doing a disservice to the story, pacing and relationship to them.
Furthermore, Jing might not be the strongest physically but he is smart. I think they should have also added scenes of him in his family, taking charge then viewers would see him not as a “lovesick puppy” following her around as some of you have said.
People complaing about why season 2 doesn’t have more episodes…
This season 2 is actually still season 1 but separated after the law to only have 40 episodes per drama came into fruition. They already did all the episodes.
They unfortunately seem to have adapted the latter parts of the novel less effectively than the preceding parts. Which is not uncommon for Chinese dramas.

Yh I thought that we where the scene was going and as a drama trope, he would use her as a consort to put the Empress in her place. I’m glad they subverted that and showed CX is not callous enough to do that as he values his personal servants. Despite his faults, He is a good leader that inspires loyalty, I’ll give him that.

I don’t think you understood the purpose of that scene. It was to show how one can love someone but recognise that they can’t or shouldn’t be in a relationship.
Which CX is guilty of as his love for XY is twisting him.
The maids like CX but doesn’t want to turn into a bitter woman full of jealousy like the Emperess,especially as CX is an Emperor and cannot freely focus his love on one person. Hence her comments after she leaves the Emperess.
Previously, her mother warned the Emperess that CX might not love her the same and that he would many woman but she still chose to go down this route.
Never mind that, if she was able to put down her jealousy and stop being so annoying, I’m sure CX would tolerate her more or even respect her. But alas, where would the conflict in the story come from?
Lol another reason CX wants XY to have his grandma and her mothers clan name is so in his mind, he still has the opportunity to be in relationship with her.
Because having her having the same clan name as CX and Grandpa would actually help her more and protect her more.

He gave me the ick anyways not even getting to know XY as if she’s not a person with thoughts and feelings and merely just something to be had, and always talking strategy with the men.
Because I thought he wanted an equal power to challenge the nobles power?
So why would he be suspicious of the Princess and PW getting increased power? When the Princess is clearly on the same side and doing everything in her power to make her father happy? With her and PW behind the crown prince he should be assured right? That would mean the royal family would be stronger.
For those saying PW is being passive, think about it more. In his previous life, he was the Prime Minister and obviously that would bring a lot of stress and pressure. Now he’s young again, in love with his wife and knows he will most likely be Prime Minister again when the current Emperor dies, if it goes according to plan. He wants to savour these moments with Princess so he’s happy to take a backseat. Also, the added element of the Inspector institution means that she has enough power for the both of them currently so he’s happy to support her behind the scenes.
I do expect him to stop being passive when 2ML starts becoming too unbearable and messing things up.
Also regarding the looks she’s giving the 2ML. She had deep affection or even maybe was in love with him in her first life. 15 years of emotion cannot be wiped out just like that in an instant. But as her relationship gets deeper with PW and 2ML starts becoming an obstacle then it will diminish. Think of bad relationships people have had, (not necessarily ones with abuse) people do not necessarily turn off their emotions even though they know that person was or is bad for them.
