Cuz i give 9s and above to shows i like😅 and i tried to consider overall show quality plus personal bias.. i mean lots of reviewers do the contrary and give 1s or 5 belows to shows they dislike while not considering factors like production, acting, ost, etc.. I still do think 8.8 is a bit too high for this show, but doesn't mean i didn't enjoy it. I give shows the score i want to, but this just a personal view.

I haven't really noticed this before you pointed it out so i just thought jbls being that way was related to conservative views on lgbtq+ in japan, but i think you do have an interesting point. I honestly don't really know much about japan culture other than what i see on bls, but i do kinda know they have a big industry in adult entertainment, so i can see your point. If I may ask if you have any idea if this is also the same when it comes to non-lgbtq+ shows?

Oh deffo agree with you! You said it very well, that actors don't owe the viewers/fans anything..but as long as they're happy in whatever they choose in their personal lives then i think we should be happy or respect them/their choices bc their just humans like us :)

As much as I enjoyed this show (i truly do! Even gave it a 9), i do agree that 8.8 is too high of a rating.. probably 8.3-8.5 feels more appropriate? I was kinda surprised at the high rating at first bc i assumed only kdramas get such ratings above 8.5 on this site 😅

I'm sorry this is a late comment but are you referring to the ywpb video? I personally thought it's cute fanservice (tho i always assume any recorded "couple moments" of bl actors, mostly thai bl actors, are fanservice hehe).. Tho i do think yinwar has a nice friendship wc i support (and if they're just friends or more than that i still support, but we'll never know and that is their own business) and they do seem to take effort to make their fans happy.. Hopefully my comment will not come across as rude or preachy 😅

Tharntype i tried looking about before cuz i know it's one of the most popular thai bls, tho im not sure if ill watch cuz ive read some not so good reviews (tho im sure there's also positives and stuff to enjoy about it but maybe it's not for me 😅)... history trapped and manner of death seem interesting tho! It's totally fine even if not super focused on romance.. I'll keep the others in mind too and tnx again for sharing your personal faves! :)

Tnx for responding! I've seen top form being mentioned lately and it seems interesting (also cuz Im already kinda familiar w the og manga and anime so i might check it someday).. Ive actually already seen triage, bad buddy and atots (all wc i liked a lot) in particular the dynamic in bad buddy is something id like to see again if other bls also have it. I'll keep ur other recs in mind too :)

I see what you meant with the gun shot in the ass part (it was indeed silly lol). For the purse thingy and other missions i don't have much say as im not smart enough to understand how it worked and i honestly just suspended my disbelief most of the time lol. The only thing i dont agree with you on is the characters not fitting the actors (i thought the opposite). But anyways, thanks for this discussion! The og 2018 jp ver is a special show for me as it's one of the first bls I've watched (tho I'm not sure if it was even intended to be a traditional "BL" in the first place, it's more of an office comedy slice of life that have lgbtq main characters) and I've also only recently knew EarthMix after watching ATOTS (wc i really liked a lot) and seeing their cameo in the jp s2. So I was kinda looking forward to see this and finished it a while ago with mixed feelings. I'm only gonna share my views about this adaptation and this is not meant to discourage anyone who's a fan of the og from watching it. If you're interested i think it's better to watch and judge for yourself.

What I liked:
- i do commend the acting of the main characters esp. the leads and the chief. So far I only know of earthmix as Phupha and Tian so it was refreshing to see them playing different roles
- the ost is pretty catchy as well, i liked that opening theme lol
- it had some good comedy bits and I had a good laugh.. i was already expecting the silliness and cringe bc I've seen the og version. However some of comedic bits didn't hit as much (such as the zoom effects wc compared to the og kinda fit more) and I guess it's not easy to exactly pull off the slapstick/kinda absurd comedy of the jp ver but i can understand that this is a different version so it didn't bother me as much.
- i like the chief's character here a little bit more than the jp s1 ver. I think they gave him more depth and showed his sort of "moving on" arc (wc is a bit similar to the s2 chief wc i prefered more)
- i also like how they gave Heng/Haruta and Mo/Maki a bit more background and a past friendship (if i remember correctly in the og they don't know each other prior to the main story), plus i think they communicated more here (wc is a bit lacking in og s1 but was more present in s2)
-it was made clear that Heng has no feelings for the chief during the wedding arc and he actually tells Mo about it. It was one of the things that was frustrating in the og bc Haruta never cleared it to Maki during their "breakup" that he doesn't actually want to marry the chief
- I also thought they did some improvements from the og 2018 ver to fit the current time, regarding production etc., also appreciate showing some of thai culture
- the VR confession rejection. I thought it was creative and more modern, i probably would have liked it less if they did it copy paste like the og and end up being less memorable
- Mo's dad accepting Heng (in the og it only happened in s2). Tho it might feel a bit too fast or simplistic how he accepted Heng but idk this is just my preference bc I like that they got Mo's parents blessing earlier
- Tanaka Kei aka og Haruta's cameo. Just like Earthmix cameo in olr s2, I just like it when crossovers happen lol

Mixed feelings about:
- changing the chief's ex-wife with a daughter. I can see how having the chief divorce his wife bc he's secretly gay and not even explaining it well to her can be questionable in today's standards, but Choko-san was one of the best characters in the og imho, I'm honestly not opposed to the daughter but her character felt a bit weaker. However i do think she was important in thai ver chief's self-love and moving on arc so maybe this is just my bias towards choko-san lol (also we didn't get a choko and maro/newyear couple in thai ver)
- Heng's character in this ver sometimes felt a bit too childlike and innocent for a 30+ yr old. The og Haruta is a lazy, irresponsible and kinda dense character but he didn't feel innocent or "pure". Yeah he was pure and kind but not in a "baby-like" way? Idk if this even makes sense lol
- Mo's hesitation with being in a relationship with Heng. I can understand him being insecure about what Heng's mom said about Chi, but I'm a bit confused about him being worried about other people's views. In the og it was a bit more understandable bc as far as i know japan is more conservative regarding lgbtq and it was set in 2018. Maki was also unsure if Haruta can even be in a relationship with a guy because he used to be "straight" (and i don't remember Heng being shown/suggested as a "straight guy who likes girls with big boobs" unlike Haruta lol). However in the thai ver, it was pretty clear to me that Heng was willing to be ina relationship with Mo depsite them both being guys and there wasn't homophobic characters if remember correctly, so i was just a bit ??? about Mo's reasons.
- the dance numbers were a bit out of place imo (i honestly don't mind dance numbers if it makes sense in the story, like for intance if the show is about idols). I do think it made sense during chief's proposal and the coworker's wedding but the one in the last ep felt like filler to extend the runtime. Preferably they could have made them shorter.
- the amnesia thingy (wc btw was also done in a similar way on the jp movie but instead of Heng/Haruta is was the chief and was also as weird and silly as it gets lol). I was honestly wondering how they will resolve the wedding arc and they did this. Idk, i know it's fictional and I'm generous in suspending my disbelief but it was just a bit too silly for me 😅

This is only what i can think of so far. Overall it wasn't a perfect show or adaptation, I actually didn't mind most of the changes and I quite enjoyed this ver, but if I watched it with no prior knowledge/bias about the og ver or the actors, there isn't much special about it and I feel it could have been improved more. Like the og ver it's good to watch without thinking too much or if you want to have some laughs. I rated it an 8 but without bias towards the og or the actors, I think this is a 7 or 7.5 from me.

I feel like they made it that way to connect to a second season? But tbh i was also a bit ??? about it (i do like seeing jack and joke's moments but why did it have to end that way). Hopefully if they do make a second season it'll have the same energy as the main show (esp the first half, it was better than the 2nd half imo) or improve the story more.

I see.. It's okay hehe.. I respect your opinion.. I haven't seen Kinnporsche so I cannot make a comparison between it and J&J, but from what I've read about KP it's more of a spicier(?) type of show so maybe your expectations didn't match 😅 this one felt a bit more thriller and kinda had a big focus on the happenings around the mcs (for instance, the boss and the horsemen peeps) and has a slow burn romance, so maybe that's why you felt bored. Also, i thought it was to be expected that it will have some unrealistic moments as this is a fictional story. I also don't agree with your opinions regarding the acting tho, it's not always the best but I think the cast performed in accordance with their roles (also if I may ask wc you are referring to as over the top acting? I honestly didn't see much of it here or are you referring to the villains? Bc there i can kinda see lol)

Ik this is late but i can see what you mean. However, i think we might have to consider the culture? I'm obviously not an expert in Japanese culture but I've noticed a kinda similar thing on other jp bls.the romance feels very "polite" (or sometimes can be considered "tame") in comparison to thai bls (wc i noticed are more "expressive" in their gestures of showing the love between characters).. I guess it also got something to do with each shows runtime.. Most jp bls are shorter in comparison (30 mins per ep vs around 1 hr for thai bls) so i guess there isn't much time to expand of the main leads deepening their relationships?

I liked this! It's not perfect story wise or acting wise all the time but it has a heart, plus i like the main leads chemistry and that's all i need honestly ❤️

Also i think it's War who plays Joker, Yin is the actor for Jack hehe

I see.. I actually thought the opposite.. I wasn't really familiar with any of the actors before seeing this (tho I'm more familiar now cuz i liked their performance here).. I thought it was quite serious and the comedy was just lowkey (comparing for example to a bl like Love is a poison, (wc i really like btw) there were some action elements there but it was more comedy in comparison to this one)..

Can someone please recommend some bls with an action genre or similar lead couple dynamics like this? Most preferably enemies to lovers (but if not it's also okay). From any country is fine (except Not Me or Kei x Yaku bc I've already seen them). Tysm!
