I watched the four episodes (so not Director's Cut) and only cried because of two certain Taiwanese characters…
But they were talking about his funeral. I also wrote a bit on the page of season two and was guessing about that if Huang Chun Chih really participates he'll either be there like in flashbacks or maybe will portrait Xi Gu as an imaginative person. Like Hao Ting imagining what Xi Gu would look like or say if he was still alive.
And...I am still depressed. Every time MODC comes to my mind, I feel like crying because this series felt just extremely realistic. I only knew after watching it that these two characters appeared in "Life: Senjou no Bokura" and also in "Plus & Minus". After finding that out, I had to rewatch the episode of "Plus & Minus" and binged "Senjou no Bokura" (and as I mentioned, I cried because of them and not because of the actual couple). I wouldn't want this story to end in any other way. Maybe season two will take place in a parallel universe in which Xi Gu didn't die but if not I would want it to be as I described. Life itself is tragic and even though we usually watch these kind of series to have some fun, it's also good to see that a series doesn't need to have a happy ending to be good. Even though this ending still tears me apart and leaves me in sadness, I wouldn't want it to be changed. Make a new series with a different ending so that viewers can decide which one to watch. I was happy to see the two in different universes and even in a Japanese series where they can be happy and not be apart.
This Japanese BL is like most of the other ones. Nothing happens until last episode and then its also very bare…
I watched the four episodes (so not Director's Cut) and only cried because of two certain Taiwanese characters that they added at the end. I think otherwise I was still kinda unmoved by this :/.
So small? That hotel room was literally 8 times bigger than my brother's apartment when he lived in Kobe. There…
I think even an older looking actor wouldn't have helped because the character himself is written in this absolute weird way. I see it in so many Japanese BL manga. They have these black and white characters. Either in looks, in behaviour or whatever you can think of. It's become annoying to a point that I started avoiding BL manga and will probably miss out on the good ones. I still kinda liked "Old Fashion Cupcake" (even though we also had the running stuff) because it still seemed a LITTLE bit realistic? MSCL is just...disappointing.
So they waited to serve all the clichés for the very end... I mean, I suspected to get them way earlier but I'm still annoyed by how heavy they weigh. It was so much that I had to fight through episode 11. Luckily these episodes have anime episodes-length otherwise this would be a late drop for me. I wish there weren't as many manga adaptations but newly written BL series. Most series which are based on manga are just super unrealistic, overly dramatic and extremely cheesy. There are exceptions (also for adaptations of novels) but it becomes saddening for me to see how many series just try to please a certain pleasure instead of (also) telling a good story.
Hmmn kinda disjointed and the two leads seem to just feel these intense feelings out of nowhere. First episode…
Funny that you mention the lip gloss. I remember the scene because it felt like something was off. The lips just were super shiny xD. But I needed to cheer up after I watched a not so happy BL (good story, unhappy ending, I'm still super sad).
I'm not crying at all! I watched Plus & Minus before MODC. I didn't really understand that scene when I watched it and now... Well, I'll still cry a little bit 🥲
The mother is quite an exhausting character but I think that's the whole point. How she is extremely possessive…
I understand you very well. I don't want to see much of her behaviour as well because of the same reasons that you mentioned. I hope for her character that SHE will be able to grow and for MY wellbeing I hope, that she won't destroy my mood.
There was so much to love in the first episode from the cinematography, to the sound editing, the locations and…
The mother is quite an exhausting character but I think that's the whole point. How she is extremely possessive of Wang, starts crying when he mentions his own dreams. It shows all her insecurities that she doesn't want to face. I saw my own mom in her. It is straining for me and at the same time I'm in awe what well written characters this story contains. It wouldn't surprise me if the mother is still the same at the end of the story and wondering why she'd "lost" her son. Some people (sadly) never change, no matter what.
And now (at episode 11) we're talking about cheating AGAIN? With the SAME couple?! And the others won't say "dude...we've…
Thanks for the links. I will have a look at those. I watched Triage and also started TharnType but dropped the latter one because of too much cringe again, iirc. It doesn't need much for me to heartlessly drop a series. If it's too cliché and doesn't hit certain buttons for me, I let go of it. Cutie Pie hat some cringe moments as well but it was good in the end but even though a series is similar doesn't mean that I can enjoy it the same way ^^. My very first Thai BL was Until We Meet Again but I didn't like the way the drama was played out so...I dropped that one (I started it right in 2019). I just started watching BL again when I saw The Tuxedo (not my cuppa) and Manner of Death (kinda liked it). Yeah...just as you said, I need some proper education of Thai BL ;). (btw: I dunno if you can see what I'm currently watching but The Eclipse is on the list as well ^^)

I dropped Bad Buddy because... I don't remember but maybe it was too cringy at one point? Somehow KinnPorsche was just my thing. Don't ask me why. I somehow liked it a lot so I gave it quite a big rating. I don't know the other shows that you mentioned so I'll have a look at them. I don't really see a pattern in my BL-Top 10. KP is followed by Semantic Error, Not Me, Old Fashion Cupcake (liked that one a lot as well) and Cutie Pie. Think I really need to give pre-2020 BL's a chance ^^.

I agree on that this one is not the worst. Can really be some kind of fatigue but some "older" BL series that I have watched just recently were much better. Makes me kinda sad to see that it CAN work. I'm having lots of hope for "180 Degree Longitude". It seems to come from a small company but the first episode already looks incredible when it comes to production, acting, story telling and what not. Another advantage of said series is, that it is shorter than most of the others. 8 episodes is a good number. It doesn't need to be so long as 12 or even 14 episodes. I only know one series were I thought that even 14 episodes is not enough (for me) xD.
I'm at episode 10 and I have to say that I HATE this kind of story telling just to stretch the story. Of course…
And now (at episode 11) we're talking about cheating AGAIN? With the SAME couple?! And the others won't say "dude...we've been there already. Just talk to him"?! How very frustrating *argh*! I wonder if I am just pampered or way too many BL series just have a pretty bad script. I think the series could have been much better with fewer episodes and...btw: why is it even called "my secret love"? The only secret love I saw was the relationship between Lee and Park...
Funny the comments here are either:1. Ewww, 10 year gap. Totally grooming.Or:2. Omg, they keep teasing us, jump…
I don't know how this is grooming when the older one definitely tries to push him away. I don't know where this goes. Age gap is not a problem imo if it's fine for BOTH who are involved. To me "grooming" is something that started from the one who's older to persuade the younger, more innocent/inexperienced one. You can correct me if I'm wrong.
In general I like the flow of this series because it doesn't contain this heavy over-acting that some Japanese BL tend to have. Another positive example (also with a big age gap) was 'Old Fashion Cupcake.' What makes Japanese series cringy sometimes is that they voice the inner thoughts. That's common in a manga or anime but I think it's unnecessary in a series with real actors and destroys the flow.
tl;dr: I don't belong to either of those groups and am here for the ride :). The adult stuff is just a nice bonus (if there will be any).
I'm at episode 10 and I have to say that I HATE this kind of story telling just to stretch the story. Of course it's hard for some people to speak up but having this issue in two couples? I will still finish this series but...this is why I dropped so many BL series. Because it seems to be a thing that the characters don't speak up and break up because assuming it's for the best. Super boring and exhausting. Kim seemed like more of an understanding and rational person. In my opinion it would have made sense for him to say it out loud that he found out about Mek's dream and the mail. Why does he need to keep that a secret? Why isn't it a better choice to talk it all out?
Last week I thought "end the series now" and I'm about half-way through ep 6 and regret it a bit, that I started watching it. Is it so hard for a character to say "please stop doing this! I told you that I like somebody else and your flirting makes me feel uncomfortable"? Is this kind of story telling necessary? I HOPE it'll get better again. Otherwise this'll sadly be another drop 😔.
