So I am really enjoying this series. The subjects presented and the rawness of some relations. Like parent-children relationships are always very difficult and seeing the dynamics between two siblings being affected by a parent even after they passed. It really hits too close for comfort. Like Minoru came with his family and basically is gonna get everything and yet, at some level, despite Shizuka having been there for their father till his death and even after, I don't get the feeling he wants to stay in that house.
I don't understand how he cant that easily choose to leave but there is more to the story that is for sure. When it comes to the brother and his relationship towards ML, it is complex. On one end, there is bitterness and hurt that built up for years, even resentment towards the golden child but there is also growth of Minoru, like he knows it is not Shizuka's fault nor in his control but in the end, the relationship has already been marked.
I hated the way he just criticised everything in the study and the feel of that space. Like ok, he has his own vision but dang, while you were not there, someone equally, if not more important, was there, took care of everything, sees the value of what is there and no longer there, so maybe not being lost in your past and the associated feelings would be better, at least much better than just criticing everything. That part really annoyed me...
Cant wait for the next episode. This one was family focused and I loved the aparte with Chizu-Chan. Want to know more of how the MLs relationship's will evolve.
The latest episode left me debating a lot about the characters.
Firstly, Dean is problematic to another level. Jack is no better. They feed off their toxicity together and yet, they match a lot in terms of their dreams and endeavours. Their downfall for both, is their lack of communication. Like please, sit down, stop drinking and talk. But knowing partly of Dean's past and Jack's trauma from that, explains a bit why they are like that... Insecurity also speaks a lot in their dynamics cause they did not seek any closure from their past. Love aint the solution, it is just part of their dynamics. They love each other but with the toxicity that is so prominent, they need to heal before being with one another and maybe even after healing they may seek something different.
Boston - did not expect Red Flag to have standards and highly appreciate that the situation at the end with him and Tua was not presented as a romanticisation of intimacy while drunk. Yeah, Tua consented and even initiated but he was clearly intoxicated and Boston handled it well.
Arnold and Dean - It was to be expected that this plot 'twist' would come into play. Given the way the plot and characters are presented, the lack of communication and the 'am benefitting from the situation or character' kind of mentality means that there is no real resolution of the ongoing matter. It is more of blissful ignorance... They all aware that some ish gonna come bite them back but they dont action to prevent it. Speak people speak... The video that got leaked only profits to Pete cause he is the only one who got accused by the production team of stealing money. It is comprehensible why everyone suspects Raffy... Arnold while not an actor and especially when he explains his reasoning to Tua makes sense and also doesn't... True he is not an actor, so not habituated to having to play a role and the 'reset' that happens after with regards to his emotions and that of his character, but he was in the wrong for not sharing his doubts to Tua when they got together. He was honest when it came to Tua's confession before and his own doubts so why keep that secret. Tua's outburst makes sense for me, cause he finally was not the background character in a sense. His feelings were reciprocated by the man he loves and then that video of his best friend and boyfriend albeit the leads in the play surfaced. He felt the hurt on all ends cause despite everything that happened with Dean, he always supported him and to get that in return... I cant imagine his pain. He has no one to turn to...
For once, Rome and Raffy are the highlight of the episode. They brought some softness to the whole shitshow, pardon my French, that was this episode. The date attempt by Raffy, the guy is finding something with Rome that he never had and that is comfortable and peaceful to him. He is desired by Rome despite his very questionable personality at times and behaviour. Rome better make himself harder to win though cause Raffy better work for his love now...
All in all though, I find this sequel very different from the first series and imo it is not a bad series. For me, there is all types of messy relations and topics that were presented in OF and now some similar relations are presented but with very different characters. For OFDO to be appealing the depths of the characters here, or lack of for some, makes the difference. Im gonna leave my final impression for after it is finished airing but overall it is sometimes too much too soon or not enough in some sub plot lines.
Finally, to the six main cast, like Phi Earth, Phi Mix, Phi Boom, Phi Joss, Phi Gawin and Aou, they did a fantastic job. We here discussing the faults of each character, the weird writing at times, or often, they made the characters alive, their portrayal of such complex characters is what makes us debate so much.. So they did a fantastic job imo. Especially Mix and Boom they stand out the most for their characters' crappiness and the emotional scenes ... Aou and Gawin, Joss and Earth stand out in different scenes throughout the different episodes.
I am really loving this series. At first, each week I was tuning in. After episode 3, I did not and when I finally caught up, the plot and presentation of complex topics really made the series stand out. While I enjoy light hearted series, sometimes, life aint light hearted and in fact, we all deal with heavy and complex matters. Episode 7 especially made me emotional cause we knew at some level Solar had some childhood trauma but this, is one I did not expect. Dk, if they gonna show a resolution of some sort with Solar's dad etc but the way it was handled fits Solar's character, being with Pobmek has made both of them grow as they learn from one another. Love Sammy's character. She is fun and still an adult, like a big sis to Pobmek.
Yeah, because people using relationships to fix, or better even, to avoid fixing their individual problems never…
That is what I mean. Maybe I wrongly phrased it but relationships are not the solution. Seeking help and solving ones issues is actually maturity and while not everyone can do it, would be great to see a series show that instead of always going the 'happy ending, albeit messy, but happy ending' nonetheless route. I get your point but you could have phrased it better
Maybe not everyone agrees but I much preferred they all remained single and sought help to deal with their issues, then down the line sought relationships Out of the 3, Pheem was the less problematic but with the fight, and the things that came after, they all equally had their issues to deal with. Am all for happy endings but imo, it is not a reflection of reality. Much rather, they show people tackling their issues and yeah still pursuing relationships and happiness and not trying to use a relationship to fix their issues. that is something no one but the person themselves that can fix
This series started so well but the ending was really out of pocket. How did the beginning connect with this type of ending. Anyone who wishes to watch it should give it a go though. While the ending is bad imo, giving it a watch is worth it especially for the first few episodes that were really nice.
Thank you for sharing, I couldn't agree more - except for your comparison with Love is a poison. Unfortunately…
I understand. I truly wonder what made Love is a Poison stand out for me and I feel like it just came out of nowhere and interested me enough to stick to mind. It is normal this may not be the opinion of everyone. Hope you enjoy it if you have the time to rewatch it. I think the cactus voices sealed the deal for me... It was so out of the ordinary that it stuck to mind 😂🤣
Nowadays lots of bl series are being produced by different country so list is huge. I have add few series which…
Thank you for that list. It's a bit concerning I feel like that am watching nearly the whole list... Some are yet to air and some are on my watchlist for the remainder am not yet watching...
Following eps 3 and 4, am still debating on who to root for. The way the plot is evolving makes me think the Best friend and protagonist are endgame but you never know. I can't get over how much they - Do Ha, Gyeon, Ha Ram and Yeon Sang remind me of dogs. Like the possessiveness, the admiration and pining, the territorial behaviour. It's like watching Usui and Hinata fighting over Misaki in Kaichou wa Maid Sama. Anyways, I hope for a happy ending. It is a nice series and love squares are not my favourite tropes but the vibes of this series give a nice relaxing plot. Not too complicated, one you can watch to decompress.
I really love this series. Truly J Bls rarely disappoint. Here am eager to know how Chiaki will react to learning he has spent years yearning for someone, months pinning for him and thinking he was out of reach to then discovering that he was in his reach and even falling for him too. The preview for episode 7 seems cliche but these coincidences also make this relatable. Like you would think of so many other ways the truth could come out and as per the preview, the most obvious becomes the privileged way.
Ae is an utter and hopeless lover. Dude cannot go a day without thinking about Chiaki and yet, he struggles with expressing himself outwardly when faced with such a sweet and passionate love. Chiaki remembering Enaga Ayumu in episode 6 (iykyk what scene am referring to), is just the icing on the cake. While he admires Ae, he has not realised where his focus and feelings have been recently.
Love the tension between them two. Most loves portrayed will have similar tropes and predictable ending or plot drives but here, it is really nice to see how they evolve together, also as individuals and as strangers in each others lives. The plot points being cliche yet not diving further into those cliches, make the series feel alive and relatable, especially when complex feelings are at the centre. All in all, am in love. Last time I felt this way for a J Bl was when I watched Love is a poison. A lot of Bls cover these but these two series are quite similar in my opinion.
What are lakorns and how do they difference from other Thai dramas
So sorry, I was unable to reply before but as VAMPIRELUKEVOYAGE said and as per my vague understanding, it falls under the realm of more cliche based plots, along with a focus on either romance, drama and plot twists. Nowadays, lakorns are becoming more versatile but the main stream Thai media was often like that. Imo, I think lakorns will be the equivalent of TV series that are broadcasted on the daily, like telenovelas or Indian TV series.
They told us it would be messy, it is a lakorn. It is messy, disturbing, has marvelous acting and beautiful cinematography. I am enjoying it even if I want to cry each episode
I am enjoying the series so far. The way the Leads are fighting for Yoo Do Ha reminds me of Kaichou wa Maid sama. They are like a pitbull, a rottweiler, a husky fighting for a golden retriever.
Apart from that, I actually don't know who Do Ha will end up with but am enjoying the ride. Am rooting for the childhood friend for now. The coffee shop employee is giving me weird vibes and the team leader am on the fence for, don't know yet how he truly is. If he turns out great and not creepy, then he could make a good match too.
I am really enjoying this series. The trope of not knowing who is the person when he is dressed as AE or Enaga is both difficult to understand and also relatable. However, what I can't compute is how Chiaki is having this difficulty. It would be nice to view the situation from his POV at some point. Hope the series gives us this😅
The latest episode left me perplexed. First, concerning the identity of the earth bender. I thought they all were in the same age range. Now you telling me it is the Professor who is the Earth Bender reincarnation. But it seems really weird cause as per the 'memories of their past lives presented', Kalakal was imprisoned soul and all in that jar or receptacle of sorts. So, how would the Professor be the reincarnation of something that never died? I'm confused.
Regarding the kiss, and evil going away, I feel like it is a hero saves the love interest kind of ish. I'm not gonna dwell more on it cause a fantasy series does not respect logic. Though I question that itself above.
For the water bender reincarnate, I feel sad for him. Ngl, imagining that he felt a connection dating back to a past life to learn what he learned. Well, love be d**ned. The writing seemed a bit rushed here which is very sad cause the story line was very nice. The ad placement felt even more forced than usual which is saying a lot, it is a Thai Series.
Overall, this episode needs a lot more to compensate to explain the plot. It is too rushed. And I love fantasy, legends and all that. It feels like it is trying to do too much too soon. It would have been much easier if the ad placement were done in side stories like it is often done in certain series by WabiSabi or even Domundi.
If am not mistaken, this series gives me vibes of a prequel to Top Form. Like learning about where Akin started. After all in Top Form, his character was already well settled in the industry and a veteran revered for his talent. If they don't stray away from the manga, this will be very appealing cause Takato's character is presented as a complex individual which in hindsight, could be a way to redeem the crushed fandom. I personally don't see this as WeTV's attempt at creating a new ship. Takato's manager has his own story line and pairing in the original manga and anime. And ngl, if they show the beginning of the manager's storyline, which is one even the anime did not dive into.. I think we in for a treat. Jade's storyline seems so appealing and here I feel like it is their attempt at redeeming what was unfortunate irl. What cannot be changed should not mean the end for everyone as well. So am happy Boom will still portray Akin. I hope Smart's career and aspirations still thrive and grow as well as Boom's. Even if they no longer work together, they made this fandom alive at one point and now, it is better to support them individually. Business is a messy territory and things happen.
I am having second lead syndrome with Chet and his bodyguard. Like till the 3rd episode I was really like this is a one sided love, get out of there but also, I get why you are forgiving and protective of your boss but seeing Chet be worried for his Bodyguard and trying to check if he is ok or not. I am shipping so much, Also, atp am more on the train of let the 2nd leads be real and telling Than run from Pheem. I love Offroad and Daou so much. Offroad blew me away with his acting in this series. I actually was like Run away from Pheem, Than. He is gonna give you a heartache, headache and maybe even RIP. I was really hoping he would not use their past bond to his advantage and use the toy ring to manipulate Than but now that he pulled that card, I fear the worst is gonna happen. This story is not gonna have a happy ending and I already know that am gonna cry if Than and Pheem are not end goal but realistically (can't truly bring realist ideas to a show but here I do it), it would be a much more suitable ending. You can't choose to be with someone who hurts you. Again am all for the revenge given that Pheem lost everything worthwhile in his life cause of the jealousy Chet's mother had for his mother and Chet is a victim as is Pheem. None are better than the other imo. Atp, am not sure what is gonna happen, but one thing am sure of, the Dad is responsible for all - the trauma of each of his kids, the sufferings of Pheem's mother and Pheem as weel as Chet and Risa. Regarding Rysa I feel like she has much to play and she is more conniving that she lets on. That sense of inferiority and blatant lack of trust her father has in her just cause she is a woman will come to bite him back
I don't understand how he cant that easily choose to leave but there is more to the story that is for sure. When it comes to the brother and his relationship towards ML, it is complex.
