Title The Scandal of Chun Hwa Spoiler
Can someone explain me, as I did not understand, why Hwa Ri broke up with Choi Hwan and everyone is looking for…
She felt like he wasn’t honest about why he first approached her… like he doesn’t really love her. She felt like he only approached her for her position because being Princess’ husband would offer him protection & privilege.

Some of those women that CH were helping were Catholic (the Queen’s brother is too). And the monarchy persecuted Catholics at that time (considered it Western ideas that threatened the stability of the kingdom).

I thought it was a bit frustrating that they added such an urgent plot point that late in the show. Considering all that’s already going on with the Crown Prince & Princess.

Female aristocrats were absolutely sheltered, and Hwari being a princess would even be more restricted in her movements. Actually I keep thinking Hwari seems to have a lot of freedom to leave the palace unescorted. It surprised me. Then I just attributed it to this not being real Joseon and Hwari is super naughty & rebellious anyway. 🤣

Okay on a lighter note, how ADORABLE are the modern day Prince Hwa Seong and Ji Won!?!?! I am LIVING for that…
I saw a comment online that said they’re like a golden retriever & hamster couple. Which I thought was cute and accurate. Apparently Kim Taek (Prince Hwa Seong) did envision his character as being like a golden retriever. 😆

You’re right. Most of us wrote the comments shortly after watching the final eps and we had gotten super invested in the story before that. 😆 in my case, especially for Hwan & Hwari’s story.

Judging from released interviews and their making clips Go Ara & Jang Ryul really liked working with each other so I wouldn’t mind if they reunite soon in a different drama. 😊

Continue watching. You’re at the show’s turning point when it shifts into higher tension and less Korean Bridgerton rom-com as it had been advertised. 😅

Honestly, in ep 1 while I empathize with Hwari’s first heartbreak, I kept thinking… isn’t this guy probably the only guy of her generation that she knew other than her brothers? It’s not like she could meet many.

This comment section made me feel uncomfortable to post here from the beginning, because I was the only one talking…
I understand your disappointment as a fan. And I’m sorry that you’ve faced unfair comments that caused you discomfort here. But you should understand that not every work of an actor will be their best and that is fine. You need not take every word personally. Just because I don’t like his performance in this one show, I am not automatically his hater. I understand that he can show good performances in other shows, especially since he does have a resume of work. That’s why I said, there must be a reason why the director was keen to work with him here.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve tried to be fair in my criticism of his performance here. Now that I’ve watched him in the whole show and his character did become more prominent later, I will just conclude that he was miscast in this role. His scene with Chang Ryul in Ep 9 was the best I’ve seen him in for this show.

K-nets are brutal but they aren’t totally wrong or right too. IMO a lot of negative comments are from people who don’t even watch the show, so I find them unfair. Most of the cast are generally unknown as actors to the public. Go Ara is the most famous name and honestly, she’s not known for being the best actor. She did fine in this drama and has shown some growth. But she had a lot of issues too.

To answer most of your questions especially regarding why they had to break up, you should watch Ep 9. 🙂 it’s painful but contain key plot points.

The CP couple in modern time… they’re the one in white coats, buying sweet potatoes. 😊

JW is promoted as 2ML. On paper, his character seems like the strongest rival to CH too. But I feel like Chani is miscast in this role. I haven’t seen his acting before but I feel there must be a reason the director believes he could play this role.

But the role is one of those stoic male characters who needs to convey a lot without saying or doing much. I feel like Chani isn’t ready for such roles. Age and experience could be a factor. Go Ara doesn’t look old but Chani looks too young for her.

@Nat12 totally agree. I didn't get that whole thing either and yes; I think that is why she approached him. Good…
Thank you! It’s how I had to calm myself after the frustration of inconclusive happy ending for Hwari & Hwan. I mean, this is the couple we’ve been encouraged to root for almost right from the beginning. But in ep 10 she’s made to marry Jangwon. Making me frustrated that in spite of the whole show being about Hwari wanting to choose her own husband, in the end she’s the one who has to capitulate to political pressure.

I could tolerate that as that’s just how life sucks… we can’t all have what we want. But then after that in the present day, we can’t even get a hint that Hwari & Hwan are together? When even the CP couple are given that? It’s frustrating.

In Episode 3, someone is raping a woman. I can't see clearly who that woman is. Can you tell me who she is?
My understanding of Korean isn’t perfect, but I think her name is Dan Geum.

I think she’s a servant of Hwari’s aunt.

Can’t think of any that’s available on streaming to be honest. He’s always been in minor or support roles, Considering many of those tend to be antagonistic characters, that’s the reason his characters tend to have short presence in shows.

Dude’s a character actor. Seems to pick roles that seem interesting to him, rather than trying to build his star power. 🙂

I had been wondering almost the whole show where CH’S playboy/flirt reputation is from. Like, sure he has a lot of female employees but all interactions are just respectful and professional among them. You don’t even see him flirting with other women, just Hwari. And other women don’t try to flirt with him too.

Then in ep 9 they revealed his secret. 😑

This show tries to be a more serious drama than it promoted itself to be. But doesn’t have enough episodes to carry that substance in its intended plot.

Nah I started watching this the week it aired and was anxious for the ending all day yesterday. 😂

I liked him since My Name! I haven’t finished Daily Dose of Sunshine but I plan to watch that soon. The man’s a brilliant actor, I was just excited to see him as cool & charming romantic lead. Cos previously he tends to play intense, dramatic supporting roles.

I just joined MDL out of frustration with this drama cos no one I know is watching it and I had nowhere to vent about it. 😂

Agreed. In my delulu mind Hwari didn’t even look like she was attracted to Seunghyun.. more like just curious about him. 😅 But with Choi Hwan she seemed stunned.

Could it be just like in the past.. when Hwari first liked someone cos he was someone familiar to her? And then Choi Hwan basically swept her away, hehe.

ok, The translation is still horrible!! 😂 but that's okay.Do you know what is so sexy about Grand Princess…
I love your take on the leads’ chemistry. I started watching cos I’m a fan of Chang Ryul and was excited to see him in his first lead role. It was disheartening to see so many comments online like he’s not good-looking enough for Go Ara. I was more worried that her acting might not be able to match his. 😅

So I had low expectations for the show and then right from Ep 1 it was like BAM! What is this chemistry between them? 😂

I share your frustration! Like most of the show is about Hwari’s quest for love and look at how cute she and Choi Hwan are together. It’s like they’re meant to be from the beginning — the other guys aren’t even contenders. Then the show meanders with covering most of CP’s story and up to ep 10 we are getting that our leads might not be together! Then in the modern ending we still don’t get the conclusive end. It’s frustrating. But CP couple & Jiwon-Yeol seem to still be together.

Like in Ep 10 suddenly we get Hwari being forced to marry Jangwon and then in the modern era she seems to go after him. Like this show just doesn’t seem to know what it wants to be — even to the end.

Please tell me if I got this right: Past Princess Hwari DIDN'T end up with Choi Hwan thus that 4 line ending by…
My take is, the entire drama of what happens in that kingdom is the book Chunhwa Love Story . Hwari, Choi Hwan, Jang Won, etc are characters in that book. That book just happens to have Hwari as a character who also writes a series of books called Chunhwa Love Story. Hwari & Hwan get their happy ending in this book at the fireworks scene.

The 4 lines at the end of the book, is written by the author of Chunhwa Love Story that isn’t Hwari. I guess she’s represented by the narrator. Bomi (‘present day Hwari’) is reading this book.

I don’t think the ending was sad… just unsatisfying. UGH but you’re right! I completely forgot how the rapist brother didn’t get his comeuppance. Yet we still see his smirking self till the last ep. He’s lucky that everyone just got too busy to bother about him. 😡
