I don't know about the actual pacing, but most people are already aware that chinese dramas take more time when it comes to subs. Many don't even end up subbed. So we're either patient and grateful for when they come out or we learn chinese and maybe even sub it ourselves.

It's official Song Ah's dad is the best character in the series, what a sweetheart (ep 7 btw)
He's the best in her family at least for sure. But I kinda found it sad when she told them in the 5th episode she would still pursue music and he asked "are you even talented at playing the violin?". And then in the 7th episode like you mentioned, even though he was the only one telling her he trusted she would find her happiness, It was bittersweet how he said something like "did he sign this just because you carried a violin at his performance? What a nice guy." Her reaction to those questions were so heartbreaking too :/

LMAO aren't you funny. You're clearly the one who doesn't read.

"The melodrama often dealing with situation of family lives especially husband and wife, and parents-in-law as a typical genre of soap opera. It appears typical Korean male traders always beside advantaged painstaking father-in-law, or daughter-in-law. It also appears the overall plot typical to think that virtue of a sacrifice to endure in the home as the hero or the story content. The narrative through the minds of the members of the family humbled and family members recognize the importance to the overall plot.
Soap opera as a genre of melodrama is that value to think about the situation of family members. It becomes popular genre of drama because it tells a certain ideology of family
matters to solve the problems."

And that was written by two koreans. So you're welcome. But you can keep acting like a know-it-all for all I care. I won't even waste any more of my time here, you're not worth it. Take care.

Completely agree. It's not a bad drama, but 8.8 is very overrated....
I really do like your thinking. I'm also really loving DYLB? as well. It has a lot of tropes like you mentioned, but I perceive it as so well written. I love how they connected it to music so nicely and that it has characters with really good, solid and interesting substance. It just has that natural flow to me that makes sense. I feel like most people put shows like that aside because of their pacing (which in DYLB I actually don't find it that slow) and I think it also happened with APOYM and WTWIF (even though that one also had really popular leads) but I find them so healing somehow, so refreshing. I like how every situation is dealt in a mature/adult way and there's not much unnecessary drama. I don't skip anything either, even when an annoying character comes on scene. And that's just what doesn't happen here, imo. I feel like the other characters are just there to fill the plot and allow the story to somehow continue, because "the show must go on". They are there to support the main leads, indeed. But in ROY I feel like they're are reeeeally there just for that sole reason, like there's isn't much else to them. I don't know if that makes much sense to you though haha.

Ohh yeah, sometimes because there's something that holds you up enough, including the actors too (because they're good looking or because we think of them as indeed good actors) you just go ahead and keep watching to see what happens next, so you kinda ignore the other flaws. I get what you mean. I think we all did and sometimes still do that. And that's ok if we're ok with it. But right now I don't find myself willing to that very often either. Same reason as you - there's no point in spending my time with something I'm not truly enjoying, something I won't really remember later. That's why I gave my 2 cents about ROY not too long ago and now decided to just leave it be. It's not my cup of coffee, it can't be helped.

And yep, I also believe that my whole thinking has a lot to do with my age as well. I'm a bit older than you, 27. So I too understand why many people are "buying" certain dramas/fandoms more than others, me included. And that's why I also understand that when I was younger I too would and did enjoy things that now make me realize what I said earlier "indeed, it was not that great after all". But because I enjoyed it at the time, that's just fine. It's part of growing and evolving.
MDL has graphics concerning those topics you mentioned. Still, when it comes to the overall rating, those criteria don't really matter. So I also agree that the rating should be more discerning.

Hmm, which drama are you referring to? I'm watching "DYLB?" that shares the same time slot but I'm really enjoying it. As for this one, I just dropped it. It was starting to look more like a 50+ episode show, some kind of soap opera that I'm not really into. I just couldn't bring myself to watch the entire 5th episode.
Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I also have nothing against the hype whatsoever - when is justified. That's why I agreed when you mentioned "high rating because of favorites". While I do believe some people are really liking it (for whatever reasons they might have) I'm also under the strong impression that many times the cast plays a major role when it comes to ratings and popularity. I know it's a controversial opinion, but it's not the first time we see a drama become a hit just because they have at least a super popular lead. Suddenly everyone starts watching and even "loving" it because of that, regardless if script is bad or poorly written... The best example I can think of are LMH's (I know, another super controversial, unpopular opinion and a super sensitive topic) dramas. He's there - a certain and massive hit. To the point that it almost looks like that producers and sponsors are only trying to make money solely from his face... I'm just not a fan of that type of thing, I guess...

LMAO I so agree with your comments it's funny. Well, at least like many of us, when they find something better (be it a future or past drama) they might just conclude what we did: "yep, it was not that great like I perceived it at the time after all!" xD

Yeah, that's true. Forgot about Netflix, my bad. While Netflix has its own translators/subbers, we need to rely on the goodwill of non-payed (I think) subbers for the dramas that are only aired on korean channels. And I'm very grateful for them, ofc! It's just that I'm liking this one so much I wish it was subbed faster! Hahaha

Caught Record of Youth new ep. (really quite bad) on Netflix while waiting for the subs on this, so happy that…
I haven't seen ROY's latest episode yet but when I noticed it was subbed so fast I got so frustrated... It's definitely receiving more attention and priority than DYLB? and this one's been so good so far. I find it just too bad, cuz I'm not really loving ROY and from the looks of it I might just drop it soon :/
But since my chinese ain't any good either, I'll just have to wait some more hours. Thanks for the info ^^

So, I didn't really know what to expect from this drama. I had my reservations considering I'm not usually the type that likes horror/thriller shows and bloody scenes. I gave it a try mainly because of CJH (truth be told) and since there are also the "comedy" and "romance" tags. I noticed yesterday that 2 episodes/4 halfsies got leaked (which I found unexpected) and it kinda picked my interest further. Well people, I'm impressed.
If you're looking for a more dark/serious plot, this is not it (but I like it that way), trust me! The plot is simply hilarious. Just what we all might need these days. So far it's a very fun and light story, no need to put much thought into it - you just watch, laugh and relax. It will have only 12 whole episodes so I'm hoping it will be faster paced without much useless dragging or unnecessary drama.
I know CJH is a versatile actor and he always delivers, but oh my goodness he can rap and he can dance?!?! This man is a gem. I liked the FL's character in APOYM. She's a bit too much here, but I'm hoping she'll become more reasonable as the story progresses with our handsome and funny zombie :)

I really like this story so far, but same concern with the chemistry. It felt like nothing when they're standing…
I get what you mean. But in my case that's just not enough, I guess. The ML story is fine (that's why I'm still watching), but apart from him I don't have much feelings towards the drama?! As I said, to me it's like almost everybody else's just there for the heck of it... Like, to "carry" the ML 's story. So it feels kinda empty and somehow pointless. Because, to me personally, the ML alone won't keep me interested. Even some background story scenes from the past seem like they were "thrown" so the watchers wouldn't be totally like "what the heck?!" (but I still kinda am lol).
If there's no solid plot, solid characters with solid substance, unfortunately PBK (as handsome as he is) or even PSD won't be enough for me to keep watching it. I'll just wait and see how it goes in the coming two episodes...
On Record of Youth Sep 19, 2020
I'm not disliking the drama to the point of dropping it (for now) but how should I put it... I don't sense much chemistry between the leads (except a good friendship vibe). And apart from the ML we're lacking some serious substance about pretty much all the other characters?! I feel like they're just there to fill the plot and allow the story to continue. The interactions also seem a bit stiff/unnatural to me (though in the case of ML and his bff I understand).
Ofc we'll get to know more about the FL in the meantime, but considering there are already 4 episodes out, all we know about her is: works as a makeup artist, she's somehow a "sad loner" (and so, not very charismatic) and has a slightly more enthusiastic fan-girl side. So far it's been pretty much about the ML values and struggles. Not much else is really going on.
Even a story like "Itaewon Class" which is mainly about PSJ's struggles to thrive in life has strong, meaningful and interesting characters besides the main ones. Speaking of PSJ, I'm quite curious to watch his and Seo Hyun Jin's guest appearance, so I hope the story becomes more engaging in the further episodes...

P.S.: Having the same time slot as DYLB? is not making it any easier to me :/

I cannot remember the last time a drama would have made me feel this much. The characters are just so well written…
For some reason it gives me some similar feelings to A Piece Of Your Mind and When The Weather Is Fine. I'm glad I gave this one a go too :)

Title My Unicorn Girl Spoiler
I'm a little lost at the end. If I remember correctly, in episode 1, I thought the whole drama was a made-up story…
Interesting. I perceived it as a based-on-her-own-life-story kind of manga. Like we're a pandemic, she was at home as thousands of people all over the world and during that time she wrote/drew her first manga telling the story about her college life and love. But who knows, maybe I got it wrong...

Why is the FL wearing lipstick in every scene, when supposedly pretending to be a boy? It's ridiculous.
Haha I wondered about the same! Specially the eyes, since I found them so obvious from the very beginning xD the lips I only noticed in the later episodes

Another light-hearted drama where we can all simply enjoy and not use our brains so much or deal with heavier plots. It was a good watch ^^,
Still, I gotta say...

Man, this cdrama has all the typical clichés kdramas got us reeeeally used to, right? Bad guy turns to good, pure-hearted girl, rich man/poor woman, hate turns to love, silly tripping/falling, nice SML, clingy/clueless SFM (at least it was not the b*tch type), (not so much but still) mean mother, brain condition (not amnesia though lol), that "fated to be" relationship (as in "we met when we're kids, we're bound to meet in the future and end up together), slow-mo hugs from saving the other from being "runned over" by random bikes/people that had no reason to pass so closely by whatsoever, and even the damn white truck (it's never a different color lol) with the hospital drama or/and miracle.
I'm not even gonna talk about the wrist grabs followed by lines like "you, come with me!" or the back hugs, because it's not even a drama if there's none of it in there LMAO.

But what can I say, most of us just can't help getting us some old, overused lil clichés , right? ^^"
