I dont think Yu Mei Ren is « cute ». Orchid was cute to some degree but YMR is a self-possessed adult who knows what she wants and work for it for the best and for worse. She is pretty badass and self-assured. I would not label her character « cute » thats for sure.
Episode 1 done! 1. As previously stated I love Yu Mei Ren characterization 2. The ML though is distateful. I dont mind the so-called « cold type » but cant stand the arrogant type who made our YuMeiRen cry!!! 3. This is clearly a Romantic Comedy , not just a romance, so it will probably be very light, non-sensical, with some touch of depth and seriousness here and there. Much like gogosquid but with less comedy. 4. The FL is going after the ML to take her « revenge » following her bestie advice on how to make cold men fall in love she finds in drama 😭😂, so I think chaos will ensue!
Personal thoughts: 1. I’m struggling with the fact the whole drama is since episode 1 all about YMR going after the ML, much like gogosquid again. I dont know I would have loved to see her more outside this set-up before the big plunge into full-on romance. 2. The male lead characterization is a pet peeve for me😭 3. I will keep on watching the next episodes to see if I can stomach the ML, they better brong the redemption arc pretty quickly because I’m pretty sure I wont be the sole person finding him everything but engaging and endearing. That would be a waste of ZBB talent and of a drama.
Only half of episode 1 and thanx to google lens🙈 I’m already in love with YuMeiRen characterization. Esther Yu is very hypnotic in this drama, which matches her character, you just dont want to take your eyes off her. She is clever, funny, lay-back, sweet and you can guess she has layers upon layers of depth.
Update on this drama Viki Volunteer page: 1/ apparently the drama is not coming before tomorrow at least 2/ weirdly enough they’re not looking for Translators so it could mean they will only edit subs provided by another entity or they just have not added the info to their page
More and more it seems that we could be going for « The Blue Whisper » scenario where the subs were served much much later with this Croton/Youku combo, I really hope its not going to be the case 😭😭😭😭

Off to a great start!
