Adorable and flirty
This was a cute one! Very flirty and adorably sweet. The cuteness actually increases as it gets closer to the end of the show, which is a rarity itself. It takes a very common trope and somehow makes it feel almost over the top cute. I was laughing and smiling until the end. I wasn't a fan of the ML at first, but as his character developed, he grew on me...especially the last few episodes.Was this review helpful to you?
A cute classic that keeps you coming back.
This is one I unintentionally keep going back to. The first time I watched it, I rated it a 4. Next time, I stumbled upon it years later, not realizing I'd seen it (until I got a few episodes in), and liked it a lot better. This third time, again, years later, I loved it. Cute with memorable characters and believable life struggles. Even through the more frustrating parts, it still kept me hooked.Was this review helpful to you?
Decent short drama

Kept me entertained
It was entertaining and engrossing with twists and turns that I didn't see coming. The message and character growth was good, but the characters themselves weren't very memorable. I don't know that I'd rewatch it, but it was decent. Chen Du Ling has annoyed me in some other roles that she's played (I'm not sure if it's how she played the characters or just the writing), but I really liked her in this one!Was this review helpful to you?
Cute and refreshing
Cute, cheeky, and fun. Not overly serious like a lot of time travel dramas, which was a nice change (vibes a bit like Mr. Queen). A bit cheesy at times, but not too offputting.Was this review helpful to you?
Not great
A huge improvement over the original (which I dropped) but still not great. The love story was bland, and there were lots of plot holes. The portrayal of someone going blind in one eye was annoyingly innacurate.Was this review helpful to you?
Kept Me Guessing
Good story that kept me guessing, especially the ending (which I loved). The characters were rich and interesting. Only 8/10 because there were times it moved extremely slow and were hard to muddle through. The ML is a new favorite!

A nice wrap up
It's cool to see the same characters in a continuing branch of the original story. For something so short, it did a great job at capturing the spirit of the original drama. I liked seeing some of the loose ends tied up from the first series and seeing some of what happens to characters that were mentioned briefly before.Was this review helpful to you?
Hooked me!
I started Story of Yanxi Palace hoping for something longer I could watch for a while between waiting for new release episodes to finally come out for the dramas I was dumb enough to start before all the episodes were availableāsomething nice and long to settle back to, and I'd heard great things about this one. 4 days, almost no sleep, and 70 episodes later...........I was confused and a bit disappointed with the last ten episodes and the direction they took the story, but it makes more sense now that I know that it was loosely based on actual historical events. I'm not a fan of love triangles, and this one was awful, especially after hearing that it's not historically accurate. So dumb.
But overall, it was a drama that kept me hooked. Now, to go watch Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace (which I've heard is more historically accurate).

A Classic That Must Be Seen At Least Once
First, and probably most importantly, the tracksuits! š¤£Even considering how some things haven't aged as well, this would have been an absolutely amazing drama if the ML wasn't such a jerk. It's a huge turn off, and I don't blame anyone who couldn't muddle through and gave up on it. It's one thing to have a character arc where they learn to not be so awful, but the abusive behavior went on so long that it undercut the relationship development and romance.
That said, the story is great, beautifully written, and the ending is especially sweet. I can see why it's considered a must-see classic by so many hardcore drama enthusiasts. I would love to see a remake of this that cuts out a bit of the the unnecessary stuff and showcases this magical story.

Not up to the hype
It wasn't as good as I've heard, but it wasn't terrible. I might have enjoyed it more if I hadn't just watched a show with a similar story (My Girlfriend is an Alien). Though the tones were very different, I enjoyed watching the other one a lot more. Maybe because I needed a (mostly) lighthearted comedy. This one seemed overly dramatic and too drawn out for my liking. The standard 16 episodes would have been enough.Was this review helpful to you?
Worth watching once
Pretty good, but the last few episodes were overly dramatic and boring. I was hoping for more, but it wasn't terrible. I think the biggest connection I had with it was over the temperature intolerance that the human popsicles suffered from (because it's something I also have to deal with). There were some interesting points that I wish they'd explored more. It was like they couldn't decide what genre the story was.Was this review helpful to you?

This is a cute one! A great mix of comedy, romance, magic, mystery, and action. Lee Jung Eun is amazing and had me laughing so hard but crying other times! There are good character arcs, and the barriers to their romance are believable and not just the tired tropes. I loved the ending!Was this review helpful to you?
