A nice wrap up
It's cool to see the same characters in a continuing branch of the original story. For something so short, it did a great job at capturing the spirit of the original drama. I liked seeing some of the loose ends tied up from the first series and seeing some of what happens to characters that were mentioned briefly before. Was this review helpful to you?
Hooked me!
I started Story of Yanxi Palace hoping for something longer I could watch for a while between waiting for new release episodes to finally come out for the dramas I was dumb enough to start before all the episodes were availableāsomething nice and long to settle back to, and I'd heard great things about this one. 4 days, almost no sleep, and 70 episodes later...........I was confused and a bit disappointed with the last ten episodes and the direction they took the story, but it makes more sense now that I know that it was loosely based on actual historical events. I'm not a fan of love triangles, and this one was awful, especially after hearing that it's not historically accurate. So dumb.
But overall, it was a drama that kept me hooked. Now, to go watch Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace (which I've heard is more historically accurate).

A Classic That Must Be Seen At Least Once
First, and probably most importantly, the tracksuits! š¤£Even considering how some things haven't aged as well, this would have been an absolutely amazing drama if the ML wasn't such a jerk. It's a huge turn off, and I don't blame anyone who couldn't muddle through and gave up on it. It's one thing to have a character arc where they learn to not be so awful, but the abusive behavior went on so long that it undercut the relationship development and romance.
That said, the story is great, beautifully written, and the ending is especially sweet. I can see why it's considered a must-see classic by so many hardcore drama enthusiasts. I would love to see a remake of this that cuts out a bit of the the unnecessary stuff and showcases this magical story.

Not up to the hype
It wasn't as good as I've heard, but it wasn't terrible. I might have enjoyed it more if I hadn't just watched a show with a similar story (My Girlfriend is an Alien). Though the tones were very different, I enjoyed watching the other one a lot more. Maybe because I needed a (mostly) lighthearted comedy. This one seemed overly dramatic and too drawn out for my liking. The standard 16 episodes would have been enough. Was this review helpful to you?
Worth watching once
Pretty good, but the last few episodes were overly dramatic and boring. I was hoping for more, but it wasn't terrible. I think the biggest connection I had with it was over the temperature intolerance that the human popsicles suffered from (because it's something I also have to deal with). There were some interesting points that I wish they'd explored more. It was like they couldn't decide what genre the story was.Was this review helpful to you?
Adorable!
Adorable! Fun and cute with some drama but not overly serious (even though it did make me cry a little). The cast is great, but the turtle is the best character! Was this review helpful to you?
Will watch again!
This is a cute one! A great mix of comedy, romance, magic, mystery, and action. Lee Jung Eun is amazing and had me laughing so hard but crying other times! There are good character arcs, and the barriers to their romance are believable and not just the tired tropes. I loved the ending! Was this review helpful to you?
Cute
Cute and overall pretty good. There were some things that bothered me (like him trying to change her personal beliefs), but the adorable characters and solid cast (Lee Soo Hyuk) made up for it.Was this review helpful to you?
Could have been good....
It had some really funny parts and some good world builing, but just tapered off into meh by the end. Sad. It could have been really good. Was this review helpful to you?
Meh
A shorter version of most of the Qing era dramas along the lines of Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace and The Story of Yanxi Palace. Not very memorable but not a complete waste of time if you want to see something like those two dramas but don't want to invest 70-87 episodes. Was this review helpful to you?
Must watch comedy!
So so funny! It feels like a cross between The Office, Police Academy, and Daddy Day Care. Fun comedy without being too over the top most of the time and lots of heart. Easily one of the best comedies out there. Was this review helpful to you?
Thai is still best
Better than the Korean and Chinese versions, not as good as the Thai. The MIL was a bit weird in this one. I get that they were trying to humanize her, but she went from one extreme to another too quickly to be believable. I do like how F4 seemed to be able to step in and do more with their money and influence in this version (that was always something that bugged me in other versions).Weird that it has a second season set 10 years later with different characters.

Yowzas!
First of all, woah. I didn't know a C-drama could get that steamy and make it past the censors! This show wasn't bad. I'm not used to the 12 minute episode format, so that was a big jarring. The villians were too over the top and not well developed, the male lead needed to learn the meaning of consent and boundaries, and the female lead demanding automatic trust (because of love) after lying through her teeth so many times really bothered me. But the story kept me interested, and despite a few rhings, I was rooting for a happy ending for the leads. I liked the ML a lot in Snowfall but yowzas! He took hotness to the next level here.

Amazing!
This is one of the rare gems that not only gets people hooked on K-dramas, but it's also nearly perfect. The plot is a bit like Back to the Future mixed with That Thing You Do, but it's more intricate, interesting, heartfelt, and compelling. It goes beyond the common tropes we see in time travel stories and delves deep into the heart of struggles of the deaf community in a beautiful way that anyone can relate to. The characters and relationships in this drama are so rich and moving that they'll stay with you long after the last episode. Was this review helpful to you?
Definitely worth watching!
This was a really neat look into the brocade industry-I had no idea how cool it was! Absolutely fascinating to see the process and understand why we heard about things like The Silk Road being so important in history class. It also gives me more appreciation for all the costume designs and intricate patterns in dramas. Someone must have spent years researching to write this. The story itself was great. Strong FL that used her brain instead of plot armor. There wasn't as much chemistry between the leads as I'd like, but the romance was still sweet. I loved the development of the side characters as well. Definitely worth watching!
