It was love at first sight, had it be his wife and child who died he would have actually hesitate a lot about starting a new family. Also this could have backfire and ruin his character as well.
I guess Du Shik's healing will take a lot of time even like if this happened to someone irl they might take years to overcome the trauma. Even if he forgives himself about those deaths he still have self love issues like he literally committed suicide 🙃 So I guess his healing process won't be completely shown but possibly have a open ending that's why the writer maybe kept his backstory in dark for so long.
