XF he has defend RY from his mom before. What can he really do? There is consequences. His parents still have the power. He can't really defend JM. He loved her and couldn't do much either. Then the story is focus on history repeating itself because no1 learned from the past digressions.
Again things are subjective and ppl will interrupt things differently.
All were flawed characters. But i felt that is the point of the story. At the end we take away a lesson
