She was an exchange student, so she probably came back after graduation. After coming back to korea she rented a room in that family's house and the guy with glasses was the boyfriend of the house owners daughter. She helped the couple once so the guy helped her with getting a job. She came back from japan and her boyfriend came back from millitary so they reunited again. And no, she didn't try to commit suicide, the gas thing was some sort of warming system in the winter and it was unintentional, she didnt try to kill herself.
