:D :D :D. I do miss Authur Chen tho...His eyebrow quirks always amused me, along with the sardonic smirk of his, and I feel he carried more gravitas into the role.
Am I the only one who is uncomfortable with the relationship with an adult male to a child? Feels so wrong. #TeamBookAddict
Yeah...Admittedly I'm only 9 eps into S2, but I *still* can't read their relationship as romantic/sexual. Married platonically, yes, but nothing about Ning Que's interaction with Sang Sang is ever feels like anything more than adoring elder sibling/parental figure. I mean Ep 8 SS was all, lets make a baby, and NQ is all "NO!, lets go grafitti a holy tree instead!" A choice from a 20 something male, who's not at all subtle when it comes to "flirting/snarking" with either of the two maniacs. I have no doubt, it's a deep and abiding love, complicated by the fact she's his birth object, but they seem to take pains to never show it in an adult light.
The directors the same, the screenwriters the same....Why does this season drag so much? I flew through S1, but I'm having a hard time maintaining my interest in S2....
Why is this drama so much better in terms of realistic character, and modern relationship portrayal than any of the more recent ones I've seen??? The women are all well realised, grounded 3 dimensional characters with their own desires, beliefs and internal motivations, beyond simple jealous need to possess the "guy". The males friendships are all sweet, and complicated and gentle as well.
People don't freak out when they kiss, and couples actually have sex! The women don't have that fake, juevenile naivete to the point of willfull stupidity, that's endemic to so many of the more recent series!!!
Oh man. I wanted to watch this for Deng Lun, but I'm really not sure I have the stomach to sit through this many…
Ok, I got my ep count off somehow...but after the story skips 5yrs, it got so much better. I skipped most of the toxic female characters parts and still knew what was going on. Deng Lun definitely carries this show, and his smile and laughter absolutely light up the whole screen. I enjoyed the FL actually learning and growing and no longer taking any bullshit from the toxic trio.

I've hit eps 40... and now I'm desperately trying to muster the will to live, let alone continue with this series. I'm mostly watching for Deng Lun, and the scoobie gang, because all the palace politics are killing me with boredom. . . . Why has everyone taken a stupidity pill? Esp the women? It's like somewhere around ep 30 everyone's IQ dropped down into single digits... It Hurts!!!
