Ep 2, and I'm still trying to suspend my disbelief that a Spec Op's group would allow 3 uncoordinated newbies…
The military tactics at the beginning looked really good, and I had hope. Then they had to make the situation go sideways and promptly made everyone look incompetent for reasons of plot.
Not to mention no one in the SF team has earpieces in? Each group has 1???? radio phone??? This looks more like WW2 equipment....And now their running enmasse for the fortified bunker, across open ground?? These are also WW2 tactics. The suicidally stupid kind that used to get everyone killed!!!! Where are the snipers, the stealth tactics. Just throwing bodies at a fortress and hoping they run out of bullets before you run out of bodies is ....not what I call cream of the crop strategising.
So far the military standards in this drama could be considered good, if you've never watched anything beyond say... the Vietnam war era. Certainly nowhere near modern special forces actual tactics, other than that brief hint at the very beginning.
Ep 2, and I'm still trying to suspend my disbelief that a Spec Op's group would allow 3 uncoordinated newbies to follow them on a practise drill... the tail group would know the second a group of strangers joined them!!! Sometimes I kinda hate how chinese writers always seem allergic to all but the *most* basic and cursory research into their "subject"
I'm also trying not to comment on what's passing as professional behaviour from those teachers, as well.....
So far this is a real army drama in the same way the Police Academy movies of the 80's were realistic police movies!
This is a deliberate gender flipped story, so all the tropes so often applied to even a "strong female lead" are now getting applied to the ML in this case. Yes, the ML is deliberately being treated exactly the same way the FL in other drama's is often treated. Yes the FL here is deliberately almost OP for much of the time! Not to mention this is all shot via the female gaze, and not the male gaze, and it's the men who's bodies are objectified and filmed seductively.
I'm only a short way in and am watching it for Wang Xing Yue. He's doing a good job in his conflicted character…
Do I wanna say this is a "Republican Era" drama, not a modern forensic CSI style drama?I'm honestly surprised they even have this level of forensic knowledge to be honest.
Scripts started offf so well! But started to drown once we hit the 10s.
Yes, hitting ep 11 was a little like hitting a brick wall, and I've struggled to get thru each ep since. I feel like someone dumbed down the FL and the plot around her. I can bring myself to believe she's a very mature 25 or so yr old and he's a very immature, except when it comes to tactics, 20yr old... But why did her intellect suddenly disappear after ep 10???
Original creator is normally OK, screenwriters normally ok....so who's sticking their fingers in the pie and messing everything up??? It feels like a newbie scriptwriter, not someone with this many credits.... I'm really struggling to continue this despite DYX being super puppy in this.
I felt like chengyi looked so withdrawn and drained like he is just being dragged there to finish the drama...…
Cheng Yi isn't someone you watch for a hyper active acting style. His acting style is just like this, and he tends to pick characters that work well within this field. Characters who are competent and intelligent, but also who tend to be on the introverted side with a more muted emotional palate. The emotions are all there, but they aren't turned up constantly to 11 like some actors. As the series progressed, it wasn't that he was tired initially, it was more the seriousness of everything started to weigh on him, and most of the lightness, naivety and innocence had been lost and replaced with a grim determination not to let more lives be lost.
maybe because of shifting tastes?? according to this:https://www.koreaboo.com/stories/k-dramas-c-dramas-korean-chinese-best-worst-2025/
Trust me, your CDrama's are queerer than you think. Just because it goes underground, doesn't mean it's not there. I've already spotted a M/M romance between two small characters! You don't give a jade pendant, poetry, and the first whistle for your flying mount your father gave you, to "just a friend" !!! =D
A person can't help their looks. You don't like someone's face, go watch a different drama. No ones forcing you to finish this. It's more telling on you, that you feel the need to get on here and complain about a persons looks, one the least controllable part of themselves. The CDrama world is so big and no ones giving out cookies just because you don't like someone.
I love most of the actors in this to bits, but finishing this was definitely a hard slog. I watched on 1.25 speed most of the time, and still skipped lots of boring scenes. This got butchered in editing and also feels like a much older drama. Looking at Zhang Yu Xi's face compared to current pics, I think this *was* probably filmed several years ago then got shelved for some reason. There's a good idea of story in here, if definitely nothing new, but it's buried under uneven pacing & some wonky editing. Give it a chance, but don't feel bad if it doesn't work. I only really finished because I like the actors and got invested enough in the story to want to find out what happened....
I took it the ending scene is a day dream. She's dreaming of what could have been. At best the kid might have been a child of one of the surviving Red Sparrows and a Liudao hall man, who named the kid in memory of their heroes, Ooorr it's all just a dream. The last scene where all of them show up again, and ride across the plains is definitely imagination or memory.
Don't want to put my expectations yet on this drama although i can admit trailer looks so good especially the…
To be fair, the actress is about the same age as the character.... The FL is written as jailbait for most of what I've read so far, which was at least up to where PA originally finished....
I enjoyed this. It was silly, shallow fluff, with a solid cast, and plenty of cheese thrown in... Kim Mi Gyeong strikes me as a standard undiagnosed ADHD chaos gremlin, and So Baek Ho is definite on the Autism spectrum... FL does what a chaos gremlin does to a poor logical, rule abiding ASD boi, and turns his life upside down with shameless glee... Two wierd people falling in love with each other, and being gleefully even more wierd!!! 🥰😍🥰
Su Qing Li needs to perform an intervention on both of them for all the makjang plot endings they keeps thinking up for Cheng'ers alter egos!!!!! Let them move to another company/state/overseas FFS!!!! They don't always need to die!!!!!!
