I still think Pei Yin is Zhou Yuan's father. PY left before the massacre. He's also much older than he looks. Cui Ying also mentions at one point, when he's moping, that he's not the only old person around. So I suspect that for some of the powered folks, slow aging is also a factor. If their powers/backlash doesn't kill them, they might not age much.
He was coming back from the village to break up with Pei Ying's sister, but the massacre happened. We know sometime after that, that Zhou Yuan was found by her father floating in the river.

Response to 2. Pei Yin was going back to the capital to break off his engagement with someone *else*, not the village clan leader. He then planned to go back to the village and marry the clan leader. But rocks fell and everyone died.
Then Wei Qi's little brother popped up with his ability, and he did a Doctor Strange and wandered around the time lines looking for a way to change things. Until he figured out the only way was to prevent StarFall from happening in the first place. So no one had any powers and thus all the miserable fates caused by the powers would be averted.

My twobits is that Pei Yin was actually Zhou Yuan's father. Noone else ever noticed, but PeiYin left before the massacre, and we know that event happened 16 years ago, and Zhou Yuan was found 16 years ago by her father.
Its why she ended up in the new world so far away. She got born to different parents, as her previous parents were both dead decades ago.

I also think ARP has a greater similarity with Deng Lun. He resembles him far more, especially around the eyes, but his lips and slightly stick out dorky ears also look similar. 🤣 😈 🤣

There ...are many, many, many reasons why their relationship is the way it is. NiaoNiao is one of their twin children. Aunt wound Grandma up to force Mum & Dad to leave NN behind, and take only her brother with them to battle. It's been awhile so I've forgotten why exactly. Probably for more money.
NN is neglected by the rest of the family and not taught any of the millions of manners a "good" upper class Generals daughter needs to know in order to move around with Royalty, and not say the wrong thing that might get the entire family killed for insulting the Emperor.
When Mum & Dad come back, Mum only see's a wild child she doesn't recognise, who only makes all kinds of trouble. Inlcuding the aforementioned trouble with people related to Royals who have the power to annhilate the entire family. Military credit or no.
Dad however immediately also see's that NN has grown up *just* like her mother. This is reason number 1 why Mum finds it so difficult to interact with NN. They are too much alike, and without really trying to hard NN can push *all* her mums buttons.
So 1. Mum is terrified NN will do something to get herself killed.
2. NN has the ability to absolutely rub her mum the wrong way.
3. Mum has no real experience raising a daughter, let alone a daughter she's never really seen before.
4. Mum also has *loads* of guilt over being forced to leave NN behind as a baby.
All of this means that Mum comes down hard on NN, who predictably acts up, because ....NN herself, who strikes me as being actually clinically depressed, is only used to fighting back as a means to protect herself, since she's never had anyone really care for her before.
It takes awhile for them both to work through their own issues, and a few crisis to force them to pull together.

On the other hand I love me a magnificently competent scheming, duplicitous brat like Tan XuanLin. Also those quirky little hand gestures he throws around all the time. Definitely got the whole grand chess master, masquerading as a showman/conman vibe.

Ditto. Rewatching it in bits, and keep finding those little scenes and character moments, that just make me collapse into laughter for minutes or have me going awwww....

Fan Zhi Xin's Han Wuwei was so annoying at the start, but he knocked it out of the park in those last couple of eps. Really hope we get to see how this ends.

Coming to this after Starry Love, and the voice actor they've used just makes me twitch. I would have never even noticed before, but now I *know* how good CXX's natural voice sounds, it hurts! 🤣😭🤣 *siiigh*

I didn't mind the ending too much, but I definitely noticed the difference in acting skills between Yang Shi Ze/Wen Ying & Liu Te/Mu Yan.
Mu Yan just doesn't quite have the chops to pull off the big bad, after Yang Shi Ze's excellent Crown Prince. Also I think it would have hit better if Mu Yan had committed totally to the role, and actually done something like alter his face. Instead of just a mask.

...It's looks like some kind of traditional styled long tunic. Hardly ground breaking comedy material.

Like pretty much most of the below comments, I highly recommend this drama. Short, punchy, and doesn't waste a single second of screen time. The four leads have some major chemistry, the story never puts a foot wrong, and it wraps up into what I feel is a *very* satisfying ending.

Jing Bo Ran is definitely using lip balm in the series. His lips are niiiice and moisturised. Not dry and chapped at all. Which given how cold it normally seems when shooting, would really be really criminal to let happen!!!

This is only the 2nd role I've seen JBR in, but damn he does that intense, & intensely competent and intelligent type *so* well. Also if he smoulders any harder, all that snow is going to melt!!!

He was seriously *smoking* in a League of Gentlemen...and I'm so glad they're not dubbing with another voice actor. He's got such a *gorgeously* purry voice.

20 minutes in, and I'm getting mad Jab Tak Hai Jaan vibes. Super competent bomb demolitions expert pining away for 10 years after being turned away by the love of his life... 🥰🥰🥰
