The actor playing Chongzi took her acting classes from a dumpsite. Garbage.
She's actually a decent actor. Watch her in Dance of the Phoenix, and she's much, much better. The blame for this travesty I think falls squarely on the writers, directors, & producers.
This was a fun, B-grade movie. Silly and fluffy with a bit of angst. CXX is playing to one of his strengths as the bumbling, but sweet natured and honest scholar. The girls are all gorgeous, and Eleanor Lee is stunning as the hapless reluctant demon. I'm also amused that the censoring you normally find in drama series, doesn't really seem to be present in this movie. There's alot more bareskin and very sexually suggestive scenes. All of the women tho, unfortunately CXX's character stays pretty much fully dressed. *sigh* Also yet again, they've dubbed over his gorgeous deep growly voice.
You know what I appreciated most about this drama? Besides everything lol. It’s that the 2 main couples are…
Great writing & directing lets talented actors showcase the best of the characters...and this series has all three. Chongzi is definitely an example of what happens when the writing & directing fail. 🤢 Out of all the characters, I think I would definitely kill to keep La Mu &, oddly, Hai Chao safe. I'm the most protective of these two characters. Tho to be fair, I nearly get a contact high, just watching any of the puppies/groups interactions. Their all so adorable!!! 😭😍😭
I think your anger should be directed at the writer of the story because actors goes by the script. It would have…
This was more a rant, but yes, my overall grump is definitely directed at the writers/directors. I've looked at both, and they all have some outstanding series in their resumes, so I'm not sure why this collaboration is a such a cumulative mess of soggy spagetti. It actually makes me wonder if most of the core issues are to be blamed on the original media.
Up to Ep :30 ... (May the Lord of Hell give me strength!)😭😭😭
I think this is up there with Bloody Romance, for a stellar cast that's absolutely wasted on some excruciatingly crap plot decisions. Both leads show my most loathed trait of boats loads of well meant incompetence & ineffectiveness. Chongzi is also suicidally passive, & criminally naive to boot. MuYu destroyed her precious staff, and all she did was whine at him!!!! ...and I really can't see why all the demons have such faith in her, unless it's to be an absolute muppet. She's also gotten dumber the older she's gotten. She knew as a kid she couldn't trust Wang Yue, but here she's is now, allowing herself to give weight to *anything* that comes out of his mouth. Not to mention she knows the demons have lied and manipulated her, but again, she still listens to them. She apparently has all this power, but only uses it to blow up the idiots house & flay a rapist or two. YinFan has apparently spend years trying to rid himself of the Heart curse, but for a centuries old master cultivator, can't clear his head for just 3 months in order to get rid of it. Instead it looks like he just tries to ignore it and hope it goes away....or he's doing that even more masochistically stupid thing, of playing the martyr, because he believes he deserves the pain...
I want to see how this ends, but I'm only surviving by skipping lots of scenes with characters I don't care about, i.e. most of the others, and spacing it out with all the other actually good drama's. ////rant
I know this is a few years ago, but man, whoever was in charge of sfx needs to be kicked. So many are missing, or mindlessly reused, even when they don't fit what's going on in the scene...It's funny how even a few years have really upped the overall production values.
I have to admit, listening to the actors speaking in all their own voices is *so* nice. I love Chen Xing Xu's deep gravelly voice, and Chao Bo's furry deep purr is just as good. I've now watched enough C-Drama's that I can recognise the most over-used voice actors...No fault to the v-actors, is just ..I am *so* bored of hearing the same voices, over, and over, and over again!! This series is just a delight to my ears. The rocking OST does not hurt at all!
I need to stop watching these types of dramas... geez... one would think these immortals who have lived for hundreds…
For people who cultivate for centures, intelligence and tolerance definitely seem to be their dump stats. Not to mention it's always, "Do as I say, not as I do!!!" I'm really struggling to like any character apart from maybe Qin Ke, I'd like two others, but I have a sneaking suspicion their duplicitous backstabbing demons in hiding, posing as actual nice people. The monster realm should let the demons and immortals annihilate each other and take over the world. They seem to be the only ones with any damn sense, or compassion.
Not only that, it also has the better ML... he may be a bit stony-faced in the early episodes, but at least he…
Oh sweet Hells...Ep 24 and I'm about to murder BOTH of them!!!!!!! LYF your centuries old, Stop thinking with your damn **** already. If CZ goes bad, it's aallllll on you, *old* man. You took her back to the one place on the planet that is more determined that the demons to make sure she goes evil. Jeremy, *please* pick better roles!!!! And You, ChongZi, stop pitching a fit just because your ShiFu doesn't pay attention to you every 5 seconds. You *know* he was poisoned, and needed to cultivate to recover, but you *had* to insist on bothering him? FFS!!!!! I feel like Yang Chao Yue definitely took a step *way* down from her role in Dance of the Phoenix. The character was technically younger, but a million miles more mature, collected, competent and definitely far more intelligent. Not to mention, she didn't insist on making a pretty face the centre of her existence.
Im currently watching both Starry Love and Chong Zi and i like the starry loves OST more compared to this drama
This OST isn't bad, but it just doesn't live up to the *fire* inherent in the Starry Love's OST, let alone any track that features SaDingDing or Mao Buyi! 🥰😍🥰
Not only that, it also has the better ML... he may be a bit stony-faced in the early episodes, but at least he…
I adore JT, but his character only seems to be getting worse, not better. He's as subtle as a sledgehammer and as transparent as a pane of glass. tho tbf, halfway through, and I'm honestly not sure any of the characters have developed in any meaningful way. Chong Zi's gotten "slightly" better, buuuut I'm not holding my breath.
So far I like this show but episode 13, where she gives her friend the antidote… was not it. Pretty much body…
Yeah, I get that XiaoGe was poisoned, but I would have been much happier if they kept her as is, and just cured the poison. However fatphobia seems to be ...utterly rampant in chinese media, and anorexia is accepted as the norm, from the looks of more & more young actors.
They're not supposed to have chemistry. Relationship between student - teacher is forbidden. Also LYF was supposed…
Yeah, I've seen JT act, and it feels like the director kept giving him directions along the line, of "more constipated! MoAR!!" and trying to kill any nuance in the character. He's really not usually this ...clunky. Also, this kind of age gap is definitely skeevy...and the fact they portray the FL, who I think at the end of her first life should be in her 30's, as still a very young girl also skeeves me. Esp when the whole point is she hasn't developed her immortality! So she should age!
I think Gu Hai Chao is the best sidekick I've watched so far of C-dramas, that contradicts his boss everywhere…
CDrama sidekicks all seem to have A+ attitude when it comes to dealing with their bosses, but GHC is definitely on a whole other level. He's got calling out Chao Feng's bullshit down to an Art!!🤣🤣🤣
Chao Feng & Gu Hai Chao's interactions are *killing* me!!! Also Gu Hai Chao's definitely taken advanced courses in sarcasm, boss baiting and eye rolling! 🤣🤣🤣
