Just finished today's episode! OMG IT WAS SO GOOOOOOOOD!! Sui Yuan Qing's death was somehow sad; I didn't think I'd be so sad when he died. And it was interesting how he wanted her to take the tiger tally to Changyu... Qi Min is so evil. I honestly wanted to feel bad for him but his circumstances do not justify killing his own son or the woman who raised him with kindness. What an absolute garbage human. He needs to go. I felt so sorry for Wen Kan and hope he can somehow make up for helping Qi Min!! I feel like maybe he'll be able to redeem himself by keeping Bao Er safe...? Hopefully Wen Kan ends up being Bao Er's mentor, that seems like a good use of his talents. Also, Qi Shu wanting ALL THE BOOKS made me laugh out loud. That confession scene was so sweet and wonderful; I hope they get their HEA.
And the previews are awesome.
Not in this episode, I also can't get over the scene where Xie Zheng cut off the eunuch's ear. That was so badass. I also love how only Xie Zheng can teach Changyu <3 <3 <3
Haven't watched today's episode yet but I'm still loving this show so much!! Every episode is getting better and better. Love Changyu of course, but Xie Zheng might be my favorite MMC of all time. He's so multi faceted/layered as a MMC, and I find his confidence in himself and his trust of Changyu so unusual (for CDramas) and also so freaking hot.

I am watching ongoing!! I don't want to watch leaked episodes, they take away from all the hard work of the entire team who put this epic drama together! I love this show so much and watching leaked episodes is hugely disrespectful (and, you know, illegal).

Our couple's scenes were pretty outstanding today, loved when he comforted her from the nightmare, but I have to wax poetic here for a moment about the character of Xie Zheng.
Has anyone else noticed how different the character of Xie Zheng is from the typical ML general characters in most dramas? Xie Zheng is remarkably capable in so many ways and his confidence in himself and his own abilities and judgement makes him so freaking dreamy. Usually, the ML is only capable on the battlefield, therefore their "main flaw" is that they are constantly trying to do everything themselves and make the FL's decisions for her and "keep her out of harm's way" by being her white knight. It's like most MLs don't have any self-confidence or trust in their own intelligence. But Xie Zheng is such a capable military strategist and leader that he can multi-task and immediately focus his energy during the battle where he'll do the most good while also directing his fully capable subordinates to also take charge. I loved how he left General Xie Wu with Changyu because he knew Changyu needed the back up, and Xie Wu saved her from the fatal blow. Unlike most MLs, he doesn't need to be the "big hero" or the only one who saves his beloved, nor does he care about glory and fame. His confidence and belief in himself means that he doesn't need that kind of validation. HE'S THE ABSOLUTE BEST!!!
And today's episodes were SO GOOD! But I was so sad to see Changyu and Lord Li fall out. That hit me right in the feels. I understood why she did it, but I do feel she was ultimately wrong. His fate should've been his decision and it wasn't fair for her to take that decision from him. I hope they make up and are friends again!!
I'm wondering if the destruction of the butcher's knife is meant to be symbolic.
She broke the butcher knife and it can't be fixed. Just like (maybe...) after this battle and her killing the enemy general, she can't go back to being a simple butcher girl any more. She's a war hero now and she needs a weapon befitting her new status.
The destruction of the knife means her old life is over, and there's no going back.
Caught up to episode 24 I laughed out loud so many times during today's episode. I swear, this is might be my favorite historical CDrama of all time. It's SO GOOOOOD!! But 1 episode a day is torture. :-(
The director also has to be acknowledged for this masterpiece. Obviously, the actors are amazing, and the story is captivating, but the direction is unbelievably excellent (like when the ML jumped up in the air to shoot the arrow over the side of the cliff, every scene is thrilling and magical!)
I am enjoying everything about this drama and, for the first time ever, I'm SO GLAD it's 40 episodes instead of shorter. Nothing has been filler so far.
I feel like their seperation scene was a bit odd. It didn't suit the mature relationship they have built so far.…
I disagree. Their feelings are deeply involved now and it's very human and realistic for them both to be struggling with the separation even though they knew it was going to happen. This is good storytelling, making the characters more layered, realistic, and flawed. (in my opinion)
Second forced kiss was really weird and out of character. I can digest the first one cause maybe he was expecting…
I don't know... I think this is all to show character growth by the end of the show. Right now, he is still the same ruthless person he was at the beginning. He loves her but doesn't know how to vocalize that or ask for what he wants.
She asked him, "Why should I wait for you?" and he needed to tell her, "I love you, I'm in love with you, and there will never be anyone but you for me." He's too afraid she'll reject him if he's fully vulnerable so he's trying what has always worked for him in the past, which is to just take what he wants.
The script/story/director/actor's portrayal has been very consistent about him being a ruthless sort of person from childhood until now (think back to that scene when they were talking about bullies and how he--as a child-- used his cousin as "an example" to the other children, or how he suggested she kill her uncle; he kills people without giving death a second thought.) He doesn't know how to ask for what he wants, he's only used to taking it.
