Really liking the ml character.. I don't find him immature
He's honestly refreshing, feels like a real person. He's not immature at all. If anything, he's naive and trusting, but given his background of being doted on by so many strong women, it makes total sense. He was raised to think the best of people.
Full disclosure, I'm not usually a fan of Shin Hae Sun since she seems to play the same (or similar) characters in most of her dramas (in my experience) but this drama is TOO GOOD. And she / her weirdness / quirkiness is great in this role. I love how her layers are being revealed, her acting choices are spot on, and I'm now tempted to go back and re-try some of her other dramas.
BUT Gong Myoung is absolute perfection here. I've never seen him in anything before and I am floored. His facial expressions are priceless. When he was sitting at the table with his sisters and mom, I was dying. He's hilarious, but then he's fantastic at the more serious scenes, and then he's incredible at the romantic scenes. Super impressed with this actor.
The story picks up after ep 3 and onward. I’m still currently enjoying it. If you’re looking to watch a costume…
Thank you!! This is helpful. I mostly watch for romance; so the first two episodes had me worried that the political stuff / court intrigue would be the main focus.
I will give it until episode 5. I appreciate your feedback and taking the time to respond.
I'm at episode 2 and I'm really struggling (with the story and the directing choices). If I'm already having such a hard time, would you say that it gets significantly better? Or is it more of the same and I should just drop it.
My understanding from reading the comments below is that this is "romance light" at best, right? Like, romance is not the primary or even secondary story, correct? It's more about adventure and justice, etc.
I'm wanting to set my expectations correctly before watching.
As a benchmark, I would consider Pursuit of Jade, One and Only, or Legend of the Female General a romance primarily with justice/adventure being secondary. But I would consider Love of Nirvana or Coroner's Diary to be justice/adventure primary, and then romance as a smaller, secondary plot.
This article has nothing to do with "foundation wearing general," but it is a very effective way to get people to click the link. (i.e. it's rage-bait, so thanks for that :-\ ).
Regardless, the article itself is interesting and informative. The young people in Taiwan advocating for peace via- inviting Zhang Ling He to the island is really cute.
If you scroll down to CostumeHEA's comment, they answer this question
It's not yet known. CostumeHEA suggests that this drama might have "flash backs" to the action in PRINCESS AGENTS so everyone can watch it without watching PA. But it appears this drama covers the entire novel, thus you wouldn't need to watch PA. I hope this helps!
