The king needed an heir and Hong Rim was the only person that he could trust to bed the queen & give him that heir. Hong Rim obviously wasn't gay....he just never slept with a woman before. The king was his one & only lover.

He didn't want to have sex with the queen because he's gay... so he made his lover have sex with her. From the king's perspective, Hong Rim was just as gay as him, so how was that supposed to be any better?
I guess, I was expecting, like the king, for the lover to do his "duty" and not loose his heart. And then it hit me... the king did not ever give him a choice. It might have been loyalty all along from his general. How horrible that that was true. poor king. This is why there is an old saying, if you love them let them go and if they love you they will come back. The fact that he "serviced" the king was kind of chancy for me. It is pretty awesome to see why you can pretend or make do if needed, but who you really are sexually speaking will never lie. So, the king made ONE tiny mistake. He never let a person fall in love with him, he just forced that person into a box. And, historically speaking, men have always felt their lovers were lovers AND possessions. Silly Men.
I watched this drama way back in '09 or '10 - but I loved it, it was very sweet, the main story and the side stories (like LSW) When I watched this I didn't even know the younger version was Choi Siwon until I watched for the second time and it took me by surprise! lol
