I loved Jiang Ziya, he was my favorite character.

This show strays far from the classic novel - probably a reason why it was never allowed to fully air so the book may confuse rather than clarify things. In the classic novel Yang Jian appears much later and I don't think he even meets Daji or if he does it is only briefly. After his investiture he becomes Erlang Shen, one of the mightiest war gods with a third eye in Chinese mythology. There are several myths about him that somewhat contradict each other. He has a gigantic black dog for a sidekick in other versions of this that I think they turned into Li Er in this adaption. You are right her backstory is a loose thread - probably got cut somewhere along the way.

The original novel is huge and one of the most often adapted for dramas. I believe Zhao Ge is currently in production which focuses on Wu Ji's story. It is bound to present a different take on this novel.

Is it on the same political level as The Rise of Phoenixes when when it comes to plotting and scheming?
It is complex and very well written throughout and the purpose is different - ROP is mostly a power struggle whereas in NIF it is to unravel an old conspiracy and seek justice. It is the best drama I have seen by a wide margin.

I like this but don't love it. Its funny in. a good way and a pleasing way to pass time but hasn't won my heart.

I started this some time back but stopped at ep 2 because I was not convinced on the ML. Just watched a few more and surprisingly changed my mind. Dang, this hooked me!

So I hated the love triangle in ashes of love because of how forceful it was.. I hate love triangles in general…
Both - character was annoying but so was her interpretation. A few of her other roles left me lukewarm but I don't think there are that many great female roles in c-dramas in general. I wasn't crazy about LX's character either but I think Ni Ni's interpretation was so excellent I overlooked the weakness in the character.

Randomly clicked on a trailer. Bad mistake. In tears. I was kind of expecting it but I think this is going to get very sad very soon.

I dropped AOL so dunno about that but I can tell you the triangle in L&D is not really a triangle just a love rival that she is not that into. No ship to ship.

Yeah I put it on hold for now bc its going a bit too slowly but I will probably pick it up again. I think what is different about NIF was that I was rooting for the ML all the way. So far I am not sure I like anyone that much in this show but it is a bit too early to say.

A happy ending is not always a good ending. Depending on the story, sometimes a sad ending is the only fitting…
This is really Luo Jin's best role. His acting is very good here.

I, so very much want a happy ending for this drama!
A happy ending is not always a good ending. Depending on the story, sometimes a sad ending is the only fitting and good ending. I have not read this book so I don't know the ending but I hope happy or sad that it is a good ending.

transmigration/time travel trope. It's clearer once you watch more since he has very modern ideals and knowledge.…
So more accurate to describe him as a young soul rather than an old soul... :)

I just finished and in a bit of hangover. I can't get enough of Jiu Chen and Ling Xi. T___TYes, Jiu Chen is aged…
You could try the Legends or Princess Weiyoung but to be honest TMOPB and L&D are hard to beat so you will have to adjust your expectations...

Don't panic and I seriously wouldn't pay any attention to AvenueX over dramatizing - as far as I can tell this…
Tyvm - is that for VIP or non VIP?

LOL - no not at all. I saw it on YouTube also and it got lots of concerned attention by many viewers. I was going to leave a rather rude comment about how that makes no sense and she should fact check since its still airing on schedule but I realized my YouTube account is under my real name so I restrained myself. Glad you raised it here as I think many people saw it.

Info from AvenueX: Rumor has it that the reason Royal Nirvana only aired 3 episodes last week was because there…
Don't panic and I seriously wouldn't pay any attention to AvenueX over dramatizing - as far as I can tell this is airing on schedule in China. There are 10 episodes out already for non VIPs. I can't comment on the VIP schedule since I am not one and have no access to that. The airing schedule (link below, scroll to the very bottom) is 3 episodes on Mondays and Thursdays for VIPs (6 a week) and one a day for non-VIPs (5 a week and should be 11 out for non-VIPs by tonight). The slow upload to YouTube/Amazon is likely due to translation. If you understand Mandarin and can unblock Youku or search for the title in Chinese you can find all of the episodes up to 10.

I am particularly irritated by this because we shouldn't be put off from watching this just because someone is spreading absurd rumors that this thing is going to get altered in some unacceptable way. It doesn't even make any common sense that a politcal drama can possibly be changed into a love drama without extensive re-shooting. Supposed self acclaimed industry insiders should know this.
