I think you put your finger on why this is working for me. No one character, actor or romance is being asked to…
lol - I remember Jing Tian being so heavily filtered in some otherwise forgettable drama that they practically erased her nostrils in most scenes.

One question though…what was the point of the father allowing the FL and SML to get close to each other growing…
I think the Grand Tutor is very diabolical and scheming and he plays a long game but I think that was somewhat inevitable when he decided to be his son’s tutor. I Chinese culture a master is treated with the same filial piety as a parent. I do think however he later on groomed his son in the image of a man Jiayu would admire and that was deliberate. Remember she said initially she resented Ah Mao until he turned into such a charming young man.

Ai Mi took this script knowing it is a romantic drama and HMH is ML at 28. At 17, she is above the age of consent…
I think you still don’t get my point - it is Ai Mi’s and her parent’s right to choose. Respect it instead of trying to trample on their free will and agency just bc of your personal views on what a teenager should or should not be able to do.

👍👍 There was also a pretty long discussion on it a day or two ago.

Title Key to the Phoenix Heart Spoiler
Mao is very selfish. Why would he think Jiayu will be safe..loved.. and care free in the palace when that lady…
Indeed but I think Jiayu is already on to him. He has already lost her, she just won't admit it to herself yet. I do respect how he is willing to step up and sacrifice to protect his sister. I think in his heart he knows Wuyi is right and Jiayu would never agree to share him with a Cui daughter. The only way he can go forward with it is to lie to himself that he can make it work, that Jiayu would understand bc it is for Lejun.

I think after ep 11 and 12 I have more or less figured out Li Mao and Li Lejun's back story and titles - the earlier posts on this topic are too far down the comments so I just made a discussion post on it above.

I didn't even check that one out. Meng Ziyi went on my HARD NO list after her awful acting in Princess Gambit.
The webnovel has a 6.0 score on Douban. Quite sure I am not missing out.

There's no guessing or calling it for that guy/Li Mao..He's the Villain, due to a girl and wanting power for it..The…
Never heard of The Longest Longing. By Blossoms you mean the one MZY made with LYR? I didn't like her acting there either but at least that director managed to cover up most of her flaws. But she was dreadful in Princess Gambit and all she did was boast about how pretty she looks in it. I just can't get past her complete and utter lack of self awareness. She's been cast in a ton of dramas after Blossoms became such a huge hit and I have zero plan to watch any of them. Pretty sure they will all bomb out.

I like He Yu a lot, but I am too old to grit my teeth through scenes I don't enjoy. He will make other dramas with other actors I can watch.

Nope, didn't even check out Blossoms of Power. I think Meng Ziyi is a terrible actress, she is on my HELL NO list, right under Angelababy.

I really hope the Eagle King will be a more important antagonist than Li Mao. I am so happy to see Merxat show up here I think he is a far more interesting and compelling actor than Riley Wang.

Yes of course and if they deliver a loosey goosey cure, I am fine with it.
Sadly the final rating doesn't really affect commercial success. Ad slots and sponsorships are either sold out well before that or they aren't and won't be. That's why we get such crappy endings all the time. It is true actors can get more sponsorships if a drama raises their popularity but they don't get a say in the ending and the production itself doesn't make money from any actor sponsorships.

I know I am mean but I was laughing my head off at him! It was so funny I got a stomach ache.
Hopefully this is just a happy drama with low key angst only.

They should be distant cousins of the emperor, but still bearing the Li surname. She is only a 3rd rank princess…

Actually now that I think about it, it is more likely Lejun who was probably adopted by Li Mao’s family. She is the daughter of a cousin/lesser prince who died so she was raised alongside Li Mao.

Ep. 9-10: Ok so the relationship between ML & FL has officially progressed to the friend zone territory, which…
Because being the ruler of a slightly smaller country is better than losing the throne altogether. This has been done many times in history so it’s hardly a thin plot. If you watched Sword into Plowshares which was a real historical (ie high bar for historical accuracy) it was all about that.
