they write off LLF. I just think it makes no sense for YXW to do many more seasons of this.

At surface they were family as depicted in the drama temple scene but behind the scenes there was intense politicking. It doesn’t last long and if you really want to know what happens you can google it. The audience doesn’t like this season to be in Changan and wants to see the team travel again. So I think his story with his mother should end this season and he will leave the capital again.

It probably continues to play out in the background all season.

Doesn't bother me - I have lots of couple friends with wide age gaps. They are cute in their own ways. Its a refreshing difference.

I knew the moment it appeared that the panther was going to eat someone (and I feared it might be SWM) but the way it popped out of the box like that was over the top out of the box I had to crack up!!! I do think it'd have been a lot funnier if it ate the Tang drag queen though.

Unfortunately high Douban ratings don't usually translate into commercial success. And in any case, all those old TVB dramas were made at a time where actor pay was very low the industry has completely changed today.

The reality is current investment budgets don't support longer episode counts so I doubt we will see them. Look at Fated General (75 episodes down from over 90) - it finally passed review but it can't secure enough sponsorship to air. Despite this change in regulation, I personally think episode counts will continue to fall not rise. That said, I am also hoping for EB3.😍

Don't think so. It was lifted quite some time back. I heard those two are weaker cases that were cut so they don't weigh down the S3 rating. That said, my source for that is someone from an iqiyi competitor so I take it with a slight grain of salt.

They are not mutually exclusive. This is iQiyi's most successful IP to date. They have been making vertical spin-offs of it since S1 or S2 - I don't remember which. I partially watched one featuring just SWM. They just don't make them accessible for international audiences bc this is not as wildly popular as it is in China. I personally don't care for the verticals but they are very profitable and popular in China.

There are no more 40 episode constraints. They were lifted recently. The only reason episode counts have been falling is that ad budgets keep getting cut. Advertisers pay per episode and they don't have enough budget to support/invest in really long dramas anymore. That is why platforms are cutting episode counts.

All the proper seasons should be horizontal format. But tbh I am not super excited about a short drama format S4 featuring two cases that didn’t meet the cut for S3. If this is bc 4 is “unlucky” then this approach would make it self fulfilling. There are also vertical spin offs since S1 or 2. I haven’t watched them but I have come across them on various platforms. It’s something iqiyi has been experimenting with for awhile. You can try to look for them though I doubt they are subbed.

Yeah action scenes are always risky and he does try to do all but the most difficult moves. Not surprised he gets injuries.

I think despite STOTD success not many studios are willing to take a risk on him.
