This is the first time I have ever been close to hating a FL (character, not actress). Luckily, she grew on me in the last few episodes.

I’m somewhat impressed by how much Chen Zhe Yuan (ML) is able to express, with only his eyes visible.

I just love how Yan Zi Xian is able to portray every single emotion on his face using micro-expressions. He is really skilled.

His mother says something about her maid saving her once, so I think it's this "saving grace" we often see in C-dramas. ML has a White Lotus that he treats well since he thinks she saved him at some point - often to find out that it was actually FL.
Since his mother and the maid are both women, his mother can only offer her son as a "reward " (grace). Well, that's my guess.
