There is a rumor that the writer for the first 14 eps got fired because they didn't like the stabbing business and the general direction of the drama. I don't want to believe such rumor but what you said is the biggest indication of the rumor being true. They must have changed the plot from ep 15. I argued that it would be a big plot hole if Xiange didn't show up to meet YH. Everyone in Quinqiu know about the wedding and the Ghostly Eulogy.

What if he was really innocent, just a red herring. What if his twin, the king, was actual evil and YH are forced to kill him? But no one believe her. That would be a great twist, but I doubt it's true. Just a fun thought.
