I am trying to like this show but the FL's acting is damn irritating. The plot is also nonsensical, and before anyone comes for me, I have enjoyed many short dramas in the past. Purely here for Zuo Ye and his chest-baring costumes.

I don't think you read my comment properly. I really liked the short dramas I mentioned because they're great despite the low budget. I'm actually talking about the so-called S+ dramas that have big budget but looks cheap. Not gonna name them cos of fandom wars.

I've watched (and loved) LLTG and LYF. I actually enjoy low budget dramas, like Provoke, A Familiar Stranger, and Dong Lan Xue. It's just that I haven't been able to get into most currently airing shows cos MJTY was so good (the last 5 mins are yeeted from my brain).
I gotta say, since MJTY I can't watch another chinese period drama without cringing or laughing at the cheapass costumes and sets. The difference in quality is too extreme! And don't get me started on the bad dubbing.

Hua was not adopted. The back hill has another group of 3 different families that serve the Gong family. The one who's adopted is Prince Yue (mentioned in a flashback)
