I would recommend to watch Before We Vanish and just forget about this. It's the same story, and same director, but Before We Vanish was much more emotionally resonant, and it has an actual ending.
I just watched the related film "Foreboding" and I am super confused now. Why was the same movie made two times by the same director in the same year with a different cast and script? It's the same story with different characters, but nothing is added by having the second perspective.
I think this film is misunderstood. I don't really think it's saying that the internet or technology causes loneliness. To me the idea from the film that stood out the most was that eternal life is just as terrifying as eternal death. But there's much more too it than that as well. One of the characters that died wasn't ever seen using a computer. There is a lot of depth here, but one must look beyond the surface level interpretation.
I'll make some new English subtitles for this, unless somebody else was already working on it. If anybody knows where Japanese subtitles for Oz Land can be found please let me know, otherwise I'll just do it by ear. My current plan is to have it done by March 1st
Edit: Now that there are official English subtitles I'm not planning on finishing this project.
Did everyone else watch a completely different film? I thought it was another excellent film from one of the great Japanese directors. The only thing I didn't really get was the journalist's motivations.
Are you subbing the whole series??? also Thank you so muchh for your hard work , its a lovely drama yet i cant…
Yes, It will take at least another 2 weeks to finish translating the last 5 episodes. It truly is a lovely drama. Sometimes the themes are so real it hurts, haha.
Edit: Now that there are official English subtitles I'm not planning on finishing this project.
Edit: Subtitles are available for all episodes now.
