Many novel fans believe it will follow the tragic ending if you refer to the lyrics of the OST.
I find the DC subs are pretty bad too.

In history, there are plenty of well known examples where the Emperor felt threatened by his own son such as the one referenced in Royal Nirvana so if it comes down to it, we should say the author of Nirvana in Fire was inspired by real history? I personally don’t think the author of Royal Nirvana was inspired by Nirvana in Fire as she was a student of history.

Did you catch the part about his funeral? I think he gets to leave the Palace and lead a life of freedom. But whether Wenxi gets to join him is uncertain. On a different topic, I highly recommend the behind-the-scene videos as they are quite funny.

I did not imply the sorrow of JM is equal to the sorrow of XJ, just that XJ’s angst feels inadequate to me. The more sorry the FL is, the more noble the sacrifices of the ML appear to be.

I think the part where she found she had wronged him so many times in their past and current lifetimes is pretty climactic and requires more sorrow than what she had displayed. Her lack of skill at crying was also noted by many Mainland Chinese viewers and the reason why many knew she was not acting when she cried like that at the concert..

Hi, does any knows why they cut the episodes from 70 to 59 episode? Been seeing alot of dramas are doing that.
I think the new guidelines actively discourage dramas that are too long but these dramas started production before the new guidelines were issued.

Please somebody that already finished watch this series and ever watch Ashes of Love too..I need some explanation…
I watched AOL when it was airing and liked it a lot. If I have to find fault, it would be the lack of screen time for the OTP when the plot focused more on RY and the lack of lovey dovey scenes for our couple in the ending. XJ does become remorseful later when she finds out she has misunderstood SF repeatedly but YBY’s acting is nowhere as accomplished as YZ especially for crying scenes. To be honest, both leads’ acting are not as nuanced as AOL’s but they are more than passable for the most part and they are more natural in the kissing scenes. I think L&R shines mostly because of the strong story which is very touching in terms of the ML’s devotion to the FL and the sacrifices he makes as well as the pretty generous budget which makes it easy on the eye. The HEA is more detailed so something to look forward to.

I actually find myself thrown off by the dubbing voice because it is exactly the same as the dubbing for Dilraba in Ten Miles of Peach Blossom.

From I can gather, there were creative differences that they couldn’t agree on so they parted ways. Much as I am grateful for the effort they have made to produce these 12 episodes to give us a closure, I nonetheless feel the original scriptwriter is the best person to finish the story as no matter how good another scriptwriter may be, they could only rely on the novel as a source material and the drama had deviated enough from the novel that the approach would not work well. Her writing is really superior if you compare what has been revealed of the scripts. I have just finished Episode 9 and I am feeling a bit of dissonance over CP and the Emperor speaking and acting somewhat differently from their usual selves.

The characters and plot in the drama differ from the novel in significant ways so it is not inconceivable for the ending to be different. She probably had this ending in mind when writing the beginning because there are many parallels and certain details at the beginning are clearly not incidental but placed there on purpose. She released some character epilogues written in the first-person POV immediately after the previous season ended and the one for CP did indicate he drank some wine but didn’t die. Thus I doubt it was a recent change. The drama was considered reasonably successful for Youku.

What the author did was to omit to thank the actor for his portrayal of the Emperor and she liked some other bloggers’ posts that were critical of his portrayal but she didn’t actually write anything to criticise him. I did enjoy the actor’s more empathic approach to the role of Emperor but somehow towards the end, I feel his lines have become weaker because of the new scriptwriter. Some of the better scenes between Xu and CP in the sequel are actually from the original writer’s script.
