Its getting a bit repetitive the mulish stupidity of CP and the abusive frustration of emperor. The writing is…
Good point about the Emperor trusting CP since he did not think to question him.
I’m aware in the novel CP thought the Emperor started it to depose him but I think in the drama, it is not the case, at least during the feast. CP purposely snatched the branch from Qi to do the forfeit and was relieved after that. It seemed to me he was worried the Emperor would hear the song and get angry. His words to Zhang Luzheng about any evidence they find being useless as it depended on what the Emperor chose to believe stemmed from the fact that he felt the Emperor would use it as an excuse to attack his uncle regardless of the truth. He had already done something similar 3 years ago (the scene was cut) which was why in Episode 1, Wi De Hou was at home instead of in Changzhou.
Empress Zhao was the one who explained to the viewers the meaning and history behind the song and she purposely diverted the servants before telling Qi there was no point mending the broken mirror. She probably told him to use the song afterwards to get CP into trouble as she expected him to come to the defence of his uncle. Qi and she exchanged a meaningful look during the Mid-Autumn feast.
After CP took the rap, the Emperor did ask him who told him about the song and he said everybody knew about the song. I agree it was probably part of General Gu’s plan as Gu Feng En already started the ball rolling by “accidentally” leaking to Li Mingan that General Yang let the enemy go.
CP’s mother did not have an extra-marital affair but I guess the song does besmirch her reputation by talking about her history with two men.
Qi’s words to Zhang Luzheng needed to be taken with a pinch of salt as he was tricking Zhang into thinking he had been sent by the Emperor to ask him to do certain things.
It could have been even sadder but they cut the scene short. We never got to see how or why the Emperor fainted.
The drama has a mixture of audience. There are still viewers like me watching for the romance. I’m sure the video editors know the father-son is one of the main highlights but they also have to get past the censors. We also never got to see what CP said to Empress Zhao to make her intercede for him when he was late for breakfast.

Wenxi was doing it to avenge the death of Crown Princess as she knew Chen must have been the one to persuade Crown Princess to attend the birthday celebration.

I don’t really think of her as being crazy. Jealousy because of unrequited love led her to do spiteful things. Initially she just wanted Wenxi to leave.

The sentence the maid outside was saying should be “no wonder Chen neiren wanted to (get rid of Gu neiren)”. It was wishful thinking on Chen neiren’s part. The servants are aware of her possessiveness regarding CP (if you pay attention to one of the early episodes where she punished Xi Xiang) but he never felt anything romantic towards her. She said before that although she knew him earlier, he chose to give his cloak to others who came after her. At their last meeting, she told him not to give Gu any opportunity to harm him, just like he did not give her any.

I don’t have the details. It was revealed by someone who had read the script. There was another scene where CP criticised the Emperor over what happened 3 years ago that also didn’t make it apparently.

The Emperor had an important soliloquy scene after the fireworks where he talked about his vision and difficulties that was also cut out. Such a waste.

I read that many scenes involving the officials were cut from the promotion of Zhao and those scenes probably caused the Emperor to change his attitude towards CP.
Can someone tell me which dynasty is shown in this drama?
It is set in a fictitious dynasty but many elements in the novel were based on Song and Ming Dynasties. The drama seems to draw more from Song Dynasty.
Before ep 39, I stood on emperor's side. But this time emperor has gone too much. He knows clearly who killed…
I want to highlight the scene after CP faints while kneeling and the Emperor feels his forehead. You can see his face is visibly troubled and his steps are slower than usual to avoid disturbing CP.
His words as he stands before the window tell us of his dilemma, “Who is to stay, who is to go, whom to protect, whom to abandon, Chong Kui (Dian Shuai’s name), what is to be done?” Knowing the Emperor is not really asking him for counsel, Dian Shuai asks carefully if he has committed a mistake in this matter (because he is the one who apprehended Zhao’s maid). In reply, the Emperor quotes the adage, “The foundation of a country lies in the family and the foundation of a family lies in ourselves, what wrong do you have?” showing us that he knows who is at wrong but also implies maintaining the dignity and reputation of the royal family to keep the foundation of the country is an important consideration to him. If Zhao’s crimes are made public, it is a huge scandal for the royal family and can affect the authority the royal family commands. Then Dian Shuai passes him the urgent missive from Ming An which arouses his suspicions of the Gus and tips him towards the other side.
